Wow! I am in the process of applying to school psychology programs. I'm also a lead teacher in an after-school program. I ALMOST thought about re-thinking my future career because parents can be difficult. (it's tough not to take things personally) Dr.Charles opened my mind. Thank you!!
Is there a way for school psychologists to incorporate more therapy in their career? Would I be eligible to work at a private practice or mental health counseling center on the side? Or am I not qualified for that? I know in California (my state) I could get licensed as an LPCC (licensed professional clinical counselor) so I think that would be the best route. What do you think?
This definitely depends on your state but you might need extra credentials to provide those services outside of the school setting. I'm considering either getting a PhD or LPC to do more counseling outside of schools
I like how you talked about trying to understand why a child is acting a certain way so that you can better help them.
Absolutely! I love how he uses a trauma informed approach to support students

He is so inspirational! Whenever I feel an ounce of doubt, I reach out to him or listen to him speak.
That's right . Understanding kids where they are coming from is a big factor . Thanks for sharing this.
Yes!! I feel like most "bad" students aren't really bad, they're misunderstood
