Thank you Darren for sharing your experience, I never knew before the difference grasses and trees have on the soil. We are designing a plot and have made changes to our plans after watching this.
I do not get why someone would have adverserial feelings about trees (or forests), or grassland or (mature desert landscapes), or the mountains. or the ocean. They EXIST. They are part of nature and can be part of agriculture resp. fishery. Single trees or rows are not quite the same as a forest. - I think it is about CONTROL and nature being exploitable without giving the farmer trouble. A forest or a garden are more unruly, the things that go on in grassland are much more controllable - as long as the land gets enough rain. And cattle farmers do not have to deal with pests, pollinators, critters that steal their harvest, nor do they have to deal with the harvest, and early or late frosts are also not that relevant. it is a simple universe. Grass and cattle that is moved around, and you need a pond here and there. As long as there is enough rain ..... maybe they "harvest" hay - and then there is no tee supposed to stand in the way. that control freakinessh and a sense of what an orderly landscape / system has to look like. Which explains the fervor with which tree stumps are removed even in gardens and with a lot of effort. Make an island around them or plant a tree near to them (in one example a tree was taken down, a smaller one and they put in a lot of effort to get the roots out. The suggestion in the comment section: burning, using diesel, bleach, ... - the uploader of the video had mentioned that he wanted to grow another fruit tree instead of the tree he had taken down. ??? Diesel, bleach, old motor oil, .... REALLY ?
