  • Here's one last a follow-up video on my shed's asphalt roof, in which I have compared the results of the application of two different roof cleaning chemicals: hydrogen peroxide and "Wet and Forget" (outdoor concentrate).
As previously shown, the hydrogen peroxide application seemed to clear up the organic growth quicker than the Wet and Forget... but as shown here, the Wet and Forget did eventually do its thing.

I use this on an entire house every year to keep the green away or also remove it if it shows up early due to a wet summer. Also, after manually cleaning 2 neglected northside roofs, gutters and a porch (30yrs of build up!) as best as I could with peroxide, the wet & forget took care of the rest over time. It all looks amazing now. Awesome stuff.

Was the hydrogen peroxide mixed with water at all or with some detergent or just used straight?

Would the same work for cedar shingles? Is there a method to clean those without scrubbing or using pressure?

See if wet & forget is ok on them. I 'think' it is. I love the stuff. But it works over time so be patient.

Really, treating siding is very different than treating roofs. With roofs, the exposure to incoming weather helps things along. Siding may or may not have good exposure to the rinsing effects of weather, especially if there’s an overhang, etc. For this reason, I’ve seen and heard of very mixed results when it domes to siding.

@@OutsideCleaners Ah, yea true. I use it on vinyl and aluminum sidings. The deck I spoke of, in another comment, was a never treated wood. No paint, no stain. I can however say that it worked on the green on the underside of the deck floor and the stringers which I was thrilled to see. I think as long as you get hit with enough rain or snow and wind it does the job. And yes the green was abundant, initially, in some areas. Been using it years now.

@@mettamorph4523 H2O2 is the same, concentration differs (though 4% is not much but I don't believe it), purity for medical applications of course

Wet and forget depends on the pounding of the rain drops from tens of thousands of feet in the air to knock off the dead lichen and moss. Not gentle melting snow water.
True the peroxide somehow made this process quicker especially over the winter when you have snow and gentle melting not pounding of rain.
Do this test again from spring on. I’ll bet wet and forget keeps up in the white spots going away.
