Ohhhh man. I really REALLY needed to hear this. There's been so many times that I beat myself down for not getting enough work done or making enough progress. This talk made me realize that I need to be easier on myself. I been blinded by so many gurus talking about the hustle and grind, that I neglect my own personal joy and leisure. Of course, I wanted to be the top 1% that makes a change in their life through hustling all the time. But I didn't want to miss out on the other things that makes me happy like spending time with friends and family, exploring my side hobbies, or just enjoying a good ol' movie. I hated the guilt of not being productive. I became a person that I hardly recogized and I wasn't happy. I was constantly stressed and felt like I could never reach the finishing line. Now, I'm letting myself roam aimlessly and free to explore any creativity that I have. It doesn't have to be consistent, but it just have to having some type of meaning to me. That's good enough. I will definitely be checking out Corey McComb. Thank you TEDx Talks!
You know the same thing was happening to me. And I was going in a repetitive cycle of feeling guilty again and again. Last week my uncle from my mother's side passed away by accident. We were really really close. And he was always going from one place to another for work since he worked by taking tenders from government. He was going to open a restaurant this week. And then while he was travelling for work by car. He just passed away...... And that made me realise you can't live life by making plans or being scared. You can just live it. In the today. What you believe in, what makes you happy. And just because something's important for someone doesn't mean it's going to be important to you.
The same guilt productive thing has been happening to me since six months. And I was going in a repetitive cycle of feeling guilty again and again. I still have those chocolates he gave me two days before he passed away. I just can't believe how precious every single moment is. And how we just let it pass because we want to live it in 'aspiring' way. Rather than taking it for what it is and living it, having fun in it.
Ever since I lost my closest friend in last year, this sheer existence of mortality has been ever growing on my mind..it's a constant battle finding the best possible balance between the optimised level of productivity and taking the time out for those silly little things in life and being in the moment. I know there's no such thing as finding the perfect balance but what I've found is that creating a specific routine and trying to to stick to it does wonder. It works like a friend if given the proper authority and respect. This book by Mark Manson (The subtle art of not giving a F*uck) does a great job explaining the whole facing your mortality thing and how to use the fear of death to your advantage rather than disadvantage.
Truly excellent. It's so easy to be pulled by the weight of productivity. And I do love the high of being super productive- checking off every item and completing each task within a minute or so of my self-allotted time. But, alas, it's a slippery slope to burnout, and in the last few years, too many of us have tumbled down that hill. Thanks for this, Corey. Beautifully written, and delivered with understatement. As a TEDx speaker coach, I'd have been thrilled if my client delivered their talk with such grace.
Jesus !! This ted talks hits straight to my heart, so it mean this weekend i will hangout with my friends playing by favourite sports, rather than getting stuck in those thoughts of having a day with long hours of productive day.
‘Wabi’ expresses the part of simplicity, impermanence, flaws, and imperfection. On the contrary, ‘Sabi’ displays and expresses the effect that time has on a substance or any object. Together ‘wabi-sabi’ embraces the idea of aesthetic appreciation of aging, flaws, and the beauty of the effects of time and imperfections. The two separate parts when put together, complete each other.
I find the best solution to work problems is to keep still & let your subconscious solve the problem. By constantly working the problem just sees you going around & around the same track & ending up with no solution or a patchwork temporary "fix".
Algorithms, robots, processes and systems, are like human laws. Once in the world they begin to obsolete. But they will continue to perform their functions until people radically can't stand their outcomes anymore. Only at critical social mass will the old rules be eventually dismantled, patched, replaced or ignored. The only power of the single individual is to ignore.
@Beautifully broken..💕 is that not what we all are in this digital domian...when our humanity gets stripped away by algorithms-what remains...justanameonyourscreen...
Sometimes the key to avoiding burnout is not to be less productive and do less work, but to simply reduce stress at work and last-minute tasks, one way of which could be to increase productivity.
As much as I appreciate the realization that we are not robots... Can we really say that robots will never be creative? Even if the robots we make never achieve consciousness (akin to our level), creativity is defined as problem-solving which I'm sure our current day technology is even capable of. I definitely agree with the overall message here: Productivity culture is toxic when put to the extreme; but I think it is an overly-romanticized dream to think that robots will be made only for hard labor and it's our capacity to ~express ourselves~ that makes us different
I often read about AI stuff. I think in the post-AI age, most of us would be much less useful than an AI. Learn coding does not make you adapt to the future. I'm a programmer and I expect AI to replace me before I retire, and I think more than half of programmers will be replaced. I think anything human related in the future will become like those handicrafts. Machines can make objectively better products, the only problem is cost. And human will praise those imperfections and uniqueness, which can also be created with machine, but manufacturers just don't. So I hope people can still work in restaurants, cafe, barely serving customers and just get paid for existing, because it's different.

I'm not seeing a topic here worth a Ted talk tbh. If you have dedicated your lives to learning and then working and then buying of course you're going to feel disconnected. You have to cultivate and maintain human values. A beautiful night sky. A sunset. Laughing children. A beautiful woman. Delicious food. Joy and sorrow. Life and death. "Only dead fish go with the flow" carve your own path.
Hi aurang can i get your any social media account i want to have small talk with you cause your and mine you tube algorithm looks same i just want to discuss some things with you and you and i can learn from each other 👍
Why more? Why not as much as you consume? I'm curious about this because people seem to think they owe the world and society something when in reality they owe them nothing.
