    When Avram said kumi it reminded me of when Jesus said, "Talitha kumi." Aramaic is very much like Hebrew.

    Beth went OFF on Avram for lying!
    And then handed him the Torah like, "Boy, you better read the BIBLE and stop lying! Tell the TRUTH! Now read it *OUT LOUD* !!" 😆😆😆

    slalom, suas aulas são excelente para que já sabe ler. Faz uns três anos que estudo hebraico bíblico sozinho em casa; eu assisto suas aulas procurando só ouvir, e entendo tudo, quando surge algumas palavra nova eu consulto o dicionario, muito bom.

    Thanks for including a few feminine forms so that I could play along at home for a little bit! 😁 Now it's making me think about how complicated (and fun!) it could get to do a whole TPR Hebrew lesson in a classroom!

    Truly wonderful language acquisition experience! Next best thing to heaven! I'm actually reading and understanding it! 😂 After years of studying Hebrew the traditional way, with this method it's much better assimilated and efficiently internalized! Emitay mb'enchaamul! - May the Lord reward you! - Que Deus os recompense! 😍

    I see the names of the books are in Latin. I used to play a trick on people with that (it's worn out now and the Tanakh I read now is entirely in Hebrew). Hand someone the book and ask him to find the book of Lamentations. Unless he knows Greek, or the order of the books in Hebrew, he can't.
    וידבר בדל בדל בדל ויבדל מה?

    Mind blown. I had no idea the names of the books of the Torah are nowhere close to what we read or speak in English. A study for another day.

    Was just trying to read Jonah 1 right before watching this video.
    Question about verse 1:2 which you read at 16:23, most Bibles I see translate this as some variant of "... cry out/preach *against* it", with 'against it' presumably being the translation for 'aleha'.
    If "al" means above, and "aleha" means "above it" (or "from above it/Nineveh" in this case), do you know why they translate aleha as "against" it?
    Is it just because the English would be awkward otherwise and the translators wanted to make it fit into the context of the next verse regarding Nineveh's evil? Or can "al" really mean "against" in certain contexts? Or something else I'm missing?

    • @AlephwithBeth
      @AlephwithBeth  3 года назад +2

      Yes, the semantic domains of prepositions in Hebrew do not align perfectly with the semantic domains of prepositions in English, so they often have many possible translations into English depending on the context. 'al frequently means "against."
