Do you offer plans or know where to obtain them? I am interesting it building an Oud myself but there seems to be little technical information available. Thank you for sharing all these videos, very inspiring!
I am currently working on completing my oud plan, which is based on the famous Nahat plan. I haven't added all the technical details yet, but I will release it as soon as possible. 🙏❤️
👍👍👍👍👍🙏❤ Always within the standards, and the rules of the art, which are obviously, the choice of material, precision and calculations and slowness. Mashallah si Mansour.
you're welcome. I will make more videos about this part of the instrument, because there are lots of things missed and stay untold to others. I'm still seeking, searching and experiencing this important part myself 🙏❤️
Hi Mansour, thank you so much for this beautiful video. I am currently starting my first oud build and found this video both informative and inspiring! I have a couple questions, is this soundboard for floating or fixed bridge? I am building a floating bridge oud and am having trouble finding information on how far to space the braces that are nearest to the bridge. Also wondering what pitch you are aiming for when you are checking the tap tone? thank you so much for any information you may be able to provide!
hi. I'm happy that the videos have been helpful to you. this soundboard is for a fixed bridge oud. bracing is also really complex and unclear, because there is no standard and little information available, unfortunately. Still, for the floating bridge ouds the pressure of the bridge and the force it makes toward the soundboard is different than the fixed ones, so normally makers glue a thin patch layer under the bridge location to stop the bridge place from bending, make a curve and make a buzzing sound. also, place or design some braces close to the bridge place. about the pitch: I'm trying to find and hear the harmony of different sound textures between the left and right sides because I use different thicknesses on each side. slightly different
Amazing and accurately distances ,and so clean work. Very well job Mansour. could I asking ? : why you didn't have cut the row ends of ribs before gluing to the soundboard ??
Thank you for your attention and delicate question. Yes, maybe it comes from my frustration!😅 it is so interesting because I was exactly thinking about it during the process this time. and next time I will cut it first. but a very little tail I will leave for micro-adjustments in matching the soundboard to the bowl.
That's great Mansour , I really like the man who is trying to find or creating the best ,that's give a signal that he is a very good creator ,honest and he always updating his experiences . thank you so much for all your posts and answering all questions of your followers. @@mansouroud
@@mansouroud I believe some guitar soundboards are completely flat, and both flat and domed soundboards can produce "good" sounds. But I do believe doming would make differences, whether or not they are desired differences is another question lol
@ A related question: why are oud braces all transverse? Is it because the soundboard's width is quite large relative to its length? Are there alternative bracing patterns?
In my opinion, this is not a must to have just two pieces. I have already met very nice lovely sound ouds which are made from 4 pieces for the top. for example, because of the characteristics of the spruce wood, sometimes you face a very nice piece of spruce that has a very small kind of knot, or some noises and unparallel lines in some parts. this is where you can remove that part and make your soundboard in four pieces to ignore that unwanted part. why not! you'll have a parallel grain soundboard from the same piece of wood. save the wood, respect our sources also
@@mansouroud You know Mansour ,that is because I made my own Oud by some one who is making Ouds. He used 4 peaces for the S.B but the sound was not good and there is a very small gab between tow of the parts mean not exactly parrelled under the moveable bridge it makes (zzzz). It is so defficult to treat , if I use sanding it that will scratch the face 🤨🤔😑😮💨
brother, I didn't get your last line (about sanding). can you please explain it more? but about the soundboard, I would say this part is a world itself and how you make your soundboard is a real multi-element and factor thing. so it's hard to judge the whole concept based on one or two examples. based on my experiences, I have already seen a Sukar oud (not a very high-quality one) that has 4 pieces of soundboard and it sounds amazing! I want to say that how you prepare the soundboard is so important. but it is just my own point of view because I don't believe in any fixed rules in making instruments@@shaheenamrou
Top 👍 keep up the great work
Thanks a lot! 🙏❤️

After bracing, I guess the soundboard is flat? I wonder what would doming the soundboard do to the sound.
I didn't clearly understand what you mean about doming the soundboard.
Can you explain more please 🙏
@ Sorry lol I mean using properly curved braces to make the soundboard domed instead of flat, as guitar soundboards and back boards are.

@abdumushuk2219 braces are unbelievable. Every little changes on them have big effects on the sound

An other question 😊: what is the best : 2 or more peaces joined for soundboard???
2 peaces
Thanks alot @@mohammedmbarhdi8573 ☺
