Cutting is one of the most challenging parts of woodworking especially when making instruments. choosing the right saw and the right way of using them is also important. I love these Japanese saws. they are accurate and super sharp. also, you can work with magnetic jigs when working with them and of course, in some ways, it is hard because they are so thin. That's super correctly Mansour .. About the length of strings ,means from the nose to the bridge there's 3 styles : Turkish style is: 19cm for the neck length. Iraqi style is : 19-19.5 cm =============. Eastern arabic is 20-20.5 cm ==========. About me : I like 20.5 cm length of neck >> ALL: should be 1/3 neck to full strength of strings length ' mean if neck 20 cm the full strength shoule be 60cm. as I said : Always you did very well Mansour .

    Hi Mansour, thank you so much for this beautiful video. I am currently starting my first oud build and found this video both informative and inspiring! I have a couple questions, is this soundboard for floating or fixed bridge? I am building a floating bridge oud and am having trouble finding information on how far to space the braces that are nearest to the bridge. Also wondering what pitch you are aiming for when you are checking the tap tone? thank you so much for any information you may be able to provide!

    • @mansouroud
      @mansouroud 2 месяца назад

      hi. I'm happy that the videos have been helpful to you. this soundboard is for a fixed bridge oud. bracing is also really complex and unclear, because there is no standard and little information available, unfortunately. Still, for the floating bridge ouds the pressure of the bridge and the force it makes toward the soundboard is different than the fixed ones, so normally makers glue a thin patch layer under the bridge location to stop the bridge place from bending, make a curve and make a buzzing sound. also, place or design some braces close to the bridge place. about the pitch: I'm trying to find and hear the harmony of different sound textures between the left and right sides because I use different thicknesses on each side. slightly different

    Nice job, I had no idea, that with sandpaper alone the joint of the boards can be perfect. planer put on the board can also be a good option!!!. I look forward to your video of the preparation of the cartilage glue. Greetings master, from an apprentice of baroque lute, the technique of the oud interests me a lot, because it is its predecessor.

    • @mansouroud
      @mansouroud 2 месяца назад

      Thanks a lot. yes. lute makers tried to make it even more complex ;) about the joint. planer is very nice and works perfect but it needs large sizes like number 7, because it make curves and not fine matching. but I have found sandpaper easy and perfect in my hand. I will make a video about preparing the glue, for sure.
