Oud Instrument Making - Purfling of the oud bowl (soundbox)

- Purfling is not just decorative, it's also protective mechanism to protect the edge of the instrument's top. I'm not sure if it does any effect to the sound of the instrument or not!
it also makes us sure that the top is nicely connected to the body. (that's what I feel 😁) and of course makes it beautiful too.
Here I used one strip of Koa wood and one Walnut to make my purfling in around 3mm in final thickness. 3x3mm using traditional Hide Glue

زه یا به قولی سه‌زه دور کاسه رو هم بخاطر زیباییش و هم بخاطر اتصال جالبی که بین صفحه و بدنه ساز ایجاد می‌کنه دوست دارم. در مورد تاثیر احتمالیش بر صدای ساز اطلاع دقیقی ندارم ولی روی کوک نهایی صفحه سازم بعد از اتصال، تاثیر زیادی نزاشت.
اینجا از دو لایه چوب کوا (آکاسیا) و یک لایه گردو با ضخامت نهایی ۳در۳ میلیمتر استفاده کردم که با روش و چسب سنتی سیریشوم چسبیده شد.

Really grateful that you liked it. Yeah, at the time, these woods were available 😅 but finally feels me good. specially after curving the edges.

Yes, I did it once. It was nice, but personally, I don't like it. But if it is ordered, I will do it.

I have cut around 3mm in each direction (a channel with 3mmx3mm in size). the strips also are 1mm in thickness and 3mm in width. so they make a bonding. it's not necessary to be that perfect in size because you can cut the rest after gluing. 🙏❤️
