this album is so fucking sad because it really is a photograph into the depth of his addiction. recovery is my fav em album because you finally see him come out of it. maybe it's not his best work technically but the lyrics are heartwrenching and so raw. hope to hear you react to it at some point!

Obviously now, with the hindsight of knowing Eminem was pretty deep into his drug addiction during the recording of this album, it's easier to understand how half of the album is so bad. Also some of the album leaked before release (Love You More, We As Americans), which made Em have to go back and record new songs to replace the leaked ones, which is where many of the sillier songs came from.

*The context of Yellow Brick Road & the whole controversy:* It's that when Em was a teenager he got his heart broken by a black chick and as any angry teenager he got pissed off and made a really awful song saying "black girls are bitches and they only want your money" obviously it's was stupid and when Benzino made that song public to attack Em's image, Eminem apologized, surprise people grow and learn from their mistakes.
I gained more respect for Encore recently, in an interview this year he confirmed the opposite to what you said about him being bored, he said that every line and beat he was laying down was like the best thing ever and he couldn't believe how good it was.. obviously it was the drugs mostly, but I do love this album still. I feel it's the last time we got that typical Eminem beat. I'd never heard the original 'Crazy on You' either so nice one on that!
I really enjoyed this album at the time but I had just got out of the service and was on drugs so that might be reason lol. I think you can tell which songs were before he really got controlled by drugs

23:35 not really tho, Relapse is a horrorcore concept album that actually slaps and has AMAZING production, recovery is great, MMLP2 is super underrated and revival is... revival, amazing rapping and subject matter over terrible production ( imo ) they might not be as good as MMLP/TES but they are all great projects
Wasnt any good rapping on revival imo. I feel like technicality shouldn’t just completely overwrite the terrible flows automatically like that on that album to me. And this started with MMLP2 to me. Everything before MMLP2 was so much better from a delivery perspective i felt like
I do agree with this. I think he has had some brilliant songs since this album, but they’re few and far between. I thought castle and arose were fantastic. Bad guy was also good. His discography is generally disappointing though. Frustratingly disappointing.
I love this album always have. Might be because it’s one of the ones I was actually old enough to get and listen to when it came out. Rain man is my fav Eminem song lmao, it’s ridiculous but that’s the point, and it’s funny as hell
aw man you shouldve done the bonus tracks, Love You More and We As Americans are amazing, A few songs leaked early from this album, so he replaced them with shit ones as a weird kind of revenge or whatever the word is lol
The reason this album it's bad down the line it's because Em was getting burned out from beefs, the 8 Mile movie & Soundtrack (which also please check that one too Jon, it's really good) and on top of that his addiction got worse. Cause yeah I was also like "How are incredible songs like Mockingbird, Mosh, Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soldiers from the same album with awful songs like My 1rst Single & Ass Like That? How?" Well whatever, I'm excited for the Relapse album, that one it's way better than Encore.
If Em took out 'Puke', 'My 1st Single', 'Big Weenie', and replaced with 'We As Americans', 'Love You More', 'Ricky Ticky Toc', this this album would've been a classic!

It's interesting to hear another perspective on these songs that I enjoy, I like Puke, Just lose it and Ass like that, some of my favourite eminem songs because they make me laugh so hard. I think the important part is to determine which eminem you are listening to, Marshall Mathers or Slim Shady, if its slim treat everything as a joke, if its Marshal then it's time to get serious. This album encapsulates that, going from Ass Like That (slim) to Mockingbird (Marshall)
@@james_1878 Puke is so bad. Revival gets criticised a lot but the worst songs on Revival are nowhere near as bad as the worst songs on Encore such as puke, my 1st single and rain man. This album has some of the worst songs in his whole discography.
This was the first eminem album I ever bought so I am probably a little bias (Like 10 year old me ate the stupid and silly "rain man", Ass Like That, and Puke right up), but I honestly think Crazy in Love is one of the best song writing feats in his career
I had heard that many songs leaked so Em had added some other songs that were not initially intended for the album. If you just take the deluxe version and filtered out say the top 14 tracks only...people would still be saying this is one of the classics. Minus one or two corny type tracks, I still personally feel it remains a masterpiece just the same.
@@jessielsanchez5079Valid. But I can just barely listen to Revival until the last 2 tracks. I can listen and enjoy the beginning and end of Encore just the middle let’s it down
The way Eminem's entire flow rides the snare on Like Toy Soldiers is insane, very underlooked, but it's pitch for pitch syllable for syllable on the drums.
Don't mean to disappoint but I'm one the reasons why "ass like that" gets streamed so much. It is hilarious it is comedy at its finest. Along with "stay wide awake" it's the best way he's used the accents.
Perfect time to react to encore it’s his 3rd most popular album on Spotify cause mockingbird is trending mockingbird will hit 1billion streams soon and his monthly listeners going up rapidly the 11th most streamed artist in the world just over took Ariana grande Coldplay and dua lipa 🙌
Encore holds a special place in my heart despite the obvious flaws. That was around the time I actually started listening to rap music and the album was a big part of it
As others have pointed out already this album would've been waaay better if it wasn't for all the leaks that led to him scrapping some songs and replacing them last minute with all the worst songs on this album. It wouldn't have been quite on the level The Eminem Show was but still pretty great. I recommend looking up playlists with all the leaks that make Encore what it should have been. Some of the leaked songs are also on the deluxe edition of Encore and they're all really good. Wish the label wouldn't have cared about the leaks and just release the album the way it was supposed to be
It’s really just Rain man, My first single, for me that were misses. The rest of this album is classic. Perhaps it was like you said different times at recording processes. He does mention heavy drug use and almost death during this time.
The leaked songs were leaked a year before Encore was released. Em was already on a downward trajectory with his verses on D12 World. His lean back verse received negative reactions all before encore was released. His good songs were even lazily written compared to his work before 03. I remember we all thought this album was a fake to throw off the leakers but nobody knew about Em's addiction at this point. We all thought he had just fallen off.
The thing is. He set the bar so high so early so it’s difficult to keep that up every album. He’s completed everything early on so tried new avenues and even on encore and revival the actual “rapping” is still nuts
I see people often point to this as the worst Eminem album (and it is bad), but it still has some songs that I think go down in the Eminem hall of fame. However I can’t say the same for some of his newer stuff. Kamikaze isn’t egregiously bad but I wouldn’t put any of its songs in his hall of fame. MTBMB Side B, in my opinion, is his worst album. It’s just unremarkable. No matter how bad his albums have been before, I never found them boring or forgettable, but a lot of his newer stuff has fallen into that category for me. Hope Em has a King’s Disease level resurgence in him but I’m not sure anymore
I Think encore was more bad to the point were the album is a funny listen. Same cant be Said for the others though. Like toy soldiers, mockingbird and wellow brick Road are amazing songs though. Music to be m by b side is horrible though, apart from Zeus which is pretty good and gnat which is bad until the beat switches and then it actually sounds incredible.
MTBMB Side B is not an album, but as deluxe it's also definitely better than all the terrible songs on Encore. Alfred's Theme is such a banger. Some of the sounds and lyrics on Encore are literally ear-bleeding bad.
encore is my favorite Eminem album the best Eminem album Y'all hating I love every song on there The album brings me so much joy Mine when I was younger just have fun a joy in life encore gets 10 out of 10 the best
Yeah, if you to Genius, Eminem has an account on there and comments on some of his song lyrics. On most of the songs from Encore he says he was too pilled up and barely remembers recording some tracks. The bonus edition that contains the songs We As Americans and I Love You More are amazing though. Those 2 tracks alone are better than the album as a whole, in my opinion. Love those 2 tracks.
Don’t care what anyone says this album is still really good and I like the silly songs there are supposed to be that way and still tea good not everything has to be serious and amazing and it’s definitely better than his new shit with his old man flow
Finally you choose to react to a masterpiece. A lot of these rappers could learn a lot from this album, especially rainman, Big weenie, my 1st single and oh i almost forgot puke! What a lyrical masterpiece! Sad to see that new rappers arent doing this these days, just making mumble rap while Eminem has something to say.
This is one of the only albums where I actually really want a 20th anniversary version of. But I would want it to be basically the original track list before the leaks happened.

He's probably gonna hate it most like every english native speaker cause of the accent. Every none-english native speaker i know love this album (myself included)
One shot two shot is so underrated 💓💓💓
FOR REAL, am i crazy its in my top 10 of all time
If Im not wrong some of the album got leaked(not sure if it is straight from the vault), and about 5-6 songs were recorded and added into the album in a span of a week with him being completely drugged up.
Let me know if this is true.
Think you’re pretty much correct. he put the leaked tracks on the bonus album
@@eheeb79 ricky ticky tock, we as americans, bully, how come, monkey see monkey do, love you more were supposed to be on the album I think, with the first two tracks as the openers to the album
Stimulate Im not sure but I think that was made during TES. The others were leaked around encores release
I can't believe u said rain man sounds like his music today... man I hope u go all the way into the discography u in for a mad surprise.
Rain Man is a classic. Encore is actually quite good considering his pen was at 50%
Always been my favorite Eminem song. Might be nostalgia but it’s so funny and so great
Mockingbird is my fave from him. I loved this album as a kid, I loved the anger and the humor. As an adult i don't revisit it at all lol
It's good tho xD
U had to do the deluxe tracks of this album they are the best ones out of these.
this album is extremely unhinged because it has some of Ems best tracks (Like Toy Soldiers, Mosh, Mockingbird, Yellow Brick Road) and has some of his worst tracks (My 1st Single, Big Weenie, Just Lose It, Puke)
I recommend you listen to D12's album Devil's Night. That's the best album D12 has put out
I'd love to see you react to the Pink Season album by Pink Guy. Similar troll vibe to some songs on this
One of your best reactions. Seeing you slowly go from kinda enjoying the album to being speechless at how bad it got was amazing.
'Love you more' on the deluxe version is the best track on the album!!! Check that one out
I think Rain Man is hilarious. I still laugh every time I hear it
23:35 not really tho, Relapse is a horrorcore concept album that actually slaps and has AMAZING production, recovery is great, MMLP2 is super underrated and revival is... revival, amazing rapping and subject matter over terrible production ( imo ) they might not be as good as MMLP/TES but they are all great projects
Wasnt any good rapping on revival imo. I feel like technicality shouldn’t just completely overwrite the terrible flows automatically like that on that album to me. And this started with MMLP2 to me. Everything before MMLP2 was so much better from a delivery perspective i felt like
🤣
The highs on this album, which is over half of it, is still much better than anything he’s made in the last 15 years
I do agree with this. I think he has had some brilliant songs since this album, but they’re few and far between. I thought castle and arose were fantastic. Bad guy was also good. His discography is generally disappointing though. Frustratingly disappointing.
are you just ignoring the MMLP2? lol
I love this album always have. Might be because it’s one of the ones I was actually old enough to get and listen to when it came out. Rain man is my fav Eminem song lmao, it’s ridiculous but that’s the point, and it’s funny as hell
@@_.-_Crimpy-_..-. No not at all, he has 7 great albums and 3 mid ones. 7 is a lot my guy.
I wish Encore had never leaked it would have been so much better
I know you haven’t done the bonus tracks so far but I urge you to for Relapse John. My Darling and Careful What You Wish For are amazing tracks.
aw man you shouldve done the bonus tracks, Love You More and We As Americans are amazing,
A few songs leaked early from this album, so he replaced them with shit ones as a weird kind of revenge or whatever the word is lol
Relapse is gonna be a great watch, despite the drug fuelled vibe of the album it’s a true horror-rap classic
Your reaction to My 1st Single had me laughing hard 11:05 🤣
The reason this album it's bad down the line it's because Em was getting burned out from beefs, the 8 Mile movie & Soundtrack (which also please check that one too Jon, it's really good) and on top of that his addiction got worse.
Cause yeah I was also like "How are incredible songs like Mockingbird, Mosh, Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soldiers from the same album with awful songs like My 1rst Single & Ass Like That? How?"
Well whatever, I'm excited for the Relapse album, that one it's way better than Encore.
If Em took out 'Puke', 'My 1st Single', 'Big Weenie', and replaced with 'We As Americans', 'Love You More', 'Ricky Ticky Toc', this this album would've been a classic!
01. Curtains Up

RELAPSE gon get soo much better
It's interesting to hear another perspective on these songs that I enjoy, I like Puke, Just lose it and Ass like that, some of my favourite eminem songs because they make me laugh so hard.
I think the important part is to determine which eminem you are listening to, Marshall Mathers or Slim Shady, if its slim treat everything as a joke, if its Marshal then it's time to get serious. This album encapsulates that, going from Ass Like That (slim) to Mockingbird (Marshall)
Puke goes hard af if u don’t listen to the lyrics
@@xXChaoticRavenXx Puke goes hard af on mute.
@@james_1878 Puke is so bad. Revival gets criticised a lot but the worst songs on Revival are nowhere near as bad as the worst songs on Encore such as puke, my 1st single and rain man. This album has some of the worst songs in his whole discography.
@@iTwistyz I like Rain Man and Puke. My first single not, but a lot of the other funny and weird ones
@@iTwistyz Rain Man goes harder than like 90% of Revival, that album is dog shit, barring like 3-4 songs at best.
I laughed at your reaction to “Just Lose It” for about 10 minutes
Wait until you get to recovery!!!! Great album!!!
This was the first eminem album I ever bought so I am probably a little bias (Like 10 year old me ate the stupid and silly "rain man", Ass Like That, and Puke right up), but I honestly think Crazy in Love is one of the best song writing feats in his career
Same. Rain man is still my favorite Eminem song
You gotta do the deluxe with this album and relapse.
The bonus tracks add so much to both of these albums
I had heard that many songs leaked so Em had added some other songs that were not initially intended for the album. If you just take the deluxe version and filtered out say the top 14 tracks only...people would still be saying this is one of the classics. Minus one or two corny type tracks, I still personally feel it remains a masterpiece just the same.
loved this one of best cds i brought with the amount of play it got RAIN MAN is fire
His subtle wtf reaction during Ass like that was hilarious
I like this album idc
Although one of his worst albums, this one is considerably more listenable and enjoyable than Revival which says a lot..
That track run from Puke to Ass Like That is still probably the worst thing to come out of any Em album.
Good album, Spend some time and yellow brick road are really underated.
Jon bopping his head at the begining of Ass Like That like "Mmm, this one might actually be kinda good" had me laughing so hard
I mean, it is. At least I like it. Definitely one of his funniest
Ass like that is an a+ record, hes likely just afraid to say anything about it due to him rapping like someone from the asian subcontinent
@@Jockuptown yeah, sure. "Make my pee pee go doing doing doing", that's fire
@@kubahavelka9556 It's funny, which was the intention
@@damyr55 Yeah, if this is your type of humor, sure
Spend some time is my shit. I love that song so much. Great beat
Under rated track! Good taste
'No more blood for oil, we've got our own battles to fight on our soil' was always insane to me.
Don't mean to disappoint but I'm one the reasons why "ass like that" gets streamed so much. It is hilarious it is comedy at its finest. Along with "stay wide awake" it's the best way he's used the accents.
Yeah, some of the funny songs are enjoyable, but having five of them in a row really dragged down the album
Yellow Brick Road is the best on the album for me.
Why is Mockingbird trending?
@@Youre TikTok
Dying at your Rain Man reaction😂😂😂😂
Like toy soldiers is a top 5 all timer for me. Got goosebumps when that intro played
Crazy good beats
I actually liked Encore
Same. Tracks got leaked so he had to make filler tracks to go on there. We as Americans should have been on there.
I did too!
Encore holds a special place in my heart despite the obvious flaws. That was around the time I actually started listening to rap music and the album was a big part of it
i love watching people reacting to this album 😂
As others have pointed out already this album would've been waaay better if it wasn't for all the leaks that led to him scrapping some songs and replacing them last minute with all the worst songs on this album. It wouldn't have been quite on the level The Eminem Show was but still pretty great. I recommend looking up playlists with all the leaks that make Encore what it should have been. Some of the leaked songs are also on the deluxe edition of Encore and they're all really good. Wish the label wouldn't have cared about the leaks and just release the album the way it was supposed to be
Relapse : Refill next please Jon !
But the difference is with the rapping, you have to be saying memorable things
@@dubtee7656 Yh I get that
High for him. Nobody brings up ems prior albums as all time classics. They're good and way better than this shit show tho.,lol
12:30 😂
Your actually entertaining to watch
encore is my favorite Eminem album the best Eminem album Y'all hating I love every song on there The album brings me so much joy Mine when I was younger just have fun a joy in life encore gets 10 out of 10 the best
My favourite eminem album idc what anyone says
Skipped big weenie :( that was a childhood favourite of mine haha
Bro really? Your favorite? I mean it's not trash but his best? Damn..
Fr?
its crazy this album gets so much hate like you don't expect anything good from it but 50 percent of the songs are fire
It's very uneven to listen to. I didn't enjoy it and had to skip about 5 times tbh
😅😂 good one
Definitely have to watch the video to some of these lol
Cant wait for revival 😂
Nice Album Review. 🎉
This is one of the only albums where I actually really want a 20th anniversary version of. But I would want it to be basically the original track list before the leaks happened.
the first album where Eminem's performance does not meet Dre's production. Bro is talking straight bullshit and gibberish on top of Perfect Dre instrumentals
Dre wasn't really on the album much. Most of the production is from Eminem or others, and guess what, the worst tracks mostly had production from Eminem himself
I wish he gave Rain Man and Big Weenie beats to 50 Cent, The Game or something. lol
@@franklingoodwin There are 4 skits on this album and 20 tracks, that's 16 musical tracks. Dre produced 8 of those. What does "wasn't really on the album that much" mean when you use it here?
I think that mockingbird was one of the early encore songs cause this sounds more like em before the drugs and the slurs like mockingbird could fit in with the eminem show
The rest of this series is gonna be interesting lmao
