  • Hey, everyone in this video I'll share the BEST method for making •CLEAR LENSES• for scale models... that I know of anyway. You can use this technique for any type of model that needs clear lenses added to it. Sit back and grab a glass of your favourite “clear” beverage and enjoy. Cheers!

    Great technique!!! Those searchlights really came out well. And what's nice is this isn't limited to small scales or circles. Assuming one can cut shapes to fit or have clear kit parts, this is still a great way of attaching clear parts in general. Something that has always given me nightmares on aircraft kits 😮😮

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  4 года назад

      Yes I find this is probably the best way to recreate clear lenses and it can be used with convex shapes as well. You can go one step further and add the bulb from small glass beads for things that have bulbs. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

    As per-usual another great video! But could you go into the Bondic tool in a future video? I've never heard of such a tool. Does it work with other glues(i.e. not the one it comes with)?? What is it doing to regular CA glue?

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  4 года назад +2

      Thanks man! I’m not sure what the material is that comes with the pen but I’m sure it’s what dentists use when bonding crowns and that type of thing. The UV light is what cures the adhesive not ca though. It’s really a very useful tool. You can also use it to form shapes that get sanded away durning construction. I’ll have to see if that type of tutorial would be something everyone wants. Cheers!

    Excellent video. Curious about the Bondic UV adhesive. Not something that is common here in the UK. Can it be used on Photo Etch and is it as strong as CA glue?

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, Roger! You can also find these UV glues at fly fishing shops. I haven't had much luck using it on etch, small parts probably but I'd still reinforce it with thin CA. It works best for making clear lenses.

    Nice technique... a few extra steps than I normally use, so will give it a try on my next lens. Interesting idea about the candle wax and CA. It’s curing is usually due to evaporation, maybe you are getting a deeper pool in the wax depression than we get with a squirt on card or metal, so you don’t get to thin evaporated glue as fast. I will have to try that as well. But see no chemical reason why paraffin wax would react with Cyanoacrylate

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  4 года назад

      Yes try it it works great. I don’t know the science behind it but candle wax stoops it from drying too quickly. A tip I learned from a friend years ago.

    • @HarryHoudiniModels
      @HarryHoudiniModels 4 года назад +1

      @@SmallSoldier I gave the wax receptacle a go with my CA glue and much to my surprise I did a whole hour session without the pool of CA drying out. Great tip.

    • @Flingwing24
      @Flingwing24 Год назад

      Yea weird isn't it. One warning. Light the thing first or blow over it with a heat gun. The ones I have seem made out of granular wax and super thin CA initially just absorbed into it....bugger🙄. I make my own loops using thin guitar strings. Also great for antenna etc

      Hello from Canada! Glad to see I have some Japanese fans! Anyway to answer your question, I have done this for an armoured car. I use "googly eyes" the Kind you often find on toys or stuffed animals. I just remove the hard backer then presto... you have a clear domed lens. I've bought varied-sized bags of these eyes at my local dollar shop. Hope that helps you and good luck. Consider subscribing if you haven't already it really helps the channel to get noticed. Cheers! 🙌

    Why pay all that money for a glue looper, simply cut the bristles off an old toothbrush, glue one to the end of a cocktail stick and you can deliver the tiniest amounts of superglue anywhere, and of course its flexible. One toothbrush will supply you for a lifetime.
