From late 1974 Ronnie would do a drum solo, as part of the band introductions at every Elvis concert. They are incredible solos and still mind blowing to this day. Great interview by the way.
I just watched the 77 concert and yeah, 90 miles an hour, starting with "See See Rider". Elvis interacting with the drums onstage was fun to watch also.
Give me the number of solo between songs or at the intro of every song is also a great way for the drummer to find out what song you're actually going to play.
I love how Elvis is always brought up in some interviews a conversation about music or he’s even compared to other artist and that’s because Elvis was the best and I always will be🔥
He definitely fell right into the perfect place for him to shine, he and The TcB band was definitely a match made in heaven, i dont think any of Elvis' sound in that era would've been the same without him😊
I became a Ronnie Tutt fan after seeing him play at the many Neil Diamond concerts I went too ! Not being a Elvis fan I had NO idea that he played with Elvis until watching a video on RUclips and thought that the drummer looked familiar which of course was Ronnie ! RIP Mr Tutt ! Thank YOU so much for the music !

I was ten years old in spring 1977 when my mom took me to see Elvis Presley on what turned out to be his final tour. I was mesmerized by the entire experience, and it's no exaggeration to say it changed my life. I didn't (and still don't) have a good singing voice, but I could damn sure keep a beat, even at that age. I started playing drums shortly after the show, and have since gone on to play professionally (and semi-professionally) for my entire adult life. I still play the occasional live gig and do the occasional studio session, though real life and the need to make a living makes that harder as I get older. Still, I've had a lifetime filled with fun and music, thanks to the inspiration of Ronnie Tutt (and Elvis too, of course 🙂)
I turned 10 in 1977 and my mom went to see him that year. She wouldn't take me as she was afraid I "might get trampled". She took me to the Beach Boys the year before on my 9th birthday (they were my favorite). I later figured out later that she probably didn't want the kid around on the off chance she got to meet Elvis 😁
@Srode1999 my mom was a single mother at a time when that was less common. I give her a lot of credit, especially where music was concerned. Instead of dumping me with a babysitter, she took me along to dozens and dozens of concerts when I was little. She was a big country fan, and country music wasn't as popular as it is today. Even the biggest country acts played at fairgrounds and even public parks that had a bandshell or stage. So they were cheaper and she could afford to go to a lot of them. By the time I was 13 or 14, I'd seen George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Merl Haggard, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, and a bunch of others. These were family friendly shows, so I usually spent most of the time running around playing with the other kids. But that environment really seeped into my bones. In the 90s and the 00s, I worked in event production, and those childhood experiences were like going to school for it.. I just didn't know that at the time.
Brilliant drummer. His live performances with Elvis are phenomenal. Ronnie really displayed his versatility and knowledge of music with how he found exactly the right beats and style for the many different types of genres that Elvis' band would play on stage. And he had some great solos to boot.
I wish I could have heard more from Ronnie, less interruptions from the interviewer. Great to hear the background & stories from Ronnie. What a legend! Thank you
Ronnie Tutt is one of my influences in my drumming career. From ages 12 to 17, I must've played thru the Madison Square Garden concert, Aloha, Elvis on Tour, and Las Vegas shows hundreds of times. Some of the tastiest drumming I've ever heard! Ronnie is a legend and I truly appreciate this interview.
the combination of Ronnie Tutt and Jerry Schiff on bass was a big influence on me for what made a great rhythm section back in my early days in the 70's

@ Ronnie was absolutely NOT 2nd rate at Neil Diamond shows. Sure, he was getting old, but he was not 2nd rate. The fact is that Diamond had him to play in a very structured and limited way, just the opposite of the way he played with Elvis’ band. Ronnie spoke and chuckled about this on multiple interviews. He died more than two years ago.
Ronnie was one of the best ever. I love him. You two are so very cool. Its awesome to here 2 musos chewing the fat. My cousin, Uncle and grandfather were drummer. I'm the family outcast, I play guitar.
He was the engine to Elvis vehicle. RT said years ago that he'd look at Elvis' behind and take cues from it. When Ronnie's playing really got going so too did Elvis' behind...lol!!!
Unlike most bands Elvis put the drums with Ronnie Tutt right up front! right behind Elvis because he loved the beat and Ronnie drove Elvis to new heights !
I had a music teacher in high school who was on-call for orchestra pit back up and played for everyone. One morning he came to tell me of the drummer Elvis had as the strongest drummer he had ever worked with… it was Ronnie Tutt.
