Stone Temple Pilots: "Plush" Soho Square London 1993 Master Tape

- Stone Temple Pilots - Plush, as recorded on a park bench in Soho Square London, for late night UK TV show called "The Beat" this show was broadcast on the ITV network at around 2AM. Because of the late broadcast time, I recorded many of these shows in full. The Beat, ran for an hour including commercials. This broadcast was recorded by me on Friday June 4th 1993 on a Sony NIcam HiFi VCR onto Scotch EXG+ video tape. All of my tapes were only ever used once, in order to maintain quality. Also on the show that night performing live were Manic Street Preachers, M People, Jelly Fish, Inspiral Carpets and Dodgy. Take a look at the other 1700 rare live music videos I have uploaded to RUclips, all taken from my video tape collection / scottishteevee

ScottishTeeVee thank you for sharing these.. ❤️
@@spookyvegan1402 No problem at all, I just hope you enjoyed them
Ur a good person u know that? I’m sure u already do tho
That was a cool vid. I sure wish I was sitting on that lawn. Love that guy's voice. His look was almost unrecognizable in the later days. Do the true felt rock and rollers always have to die? Anyways, thanks ScottishTeeVee.
"This is a song called Plush" - such a classic line..
yeah
❤ I loved that he did that
Please explain
@@macmirez9508 They were relatively unknown at the time, especially in the UK...so he was casually introducing a song called plush...The people walking by, sitting on nearby benches, or stopping briefly to listen in had absolutely no clue what they were witnessing...amazing footage!
he must have practiced a lot
I`m just thinking the people in the background have no idea they are seeing the genesis of a hit
Same here, I have watched this many times over the years since I recorded it off TV and wondered about the people just walking by with no clue as to what they were seeing, did they realise years later?
What 2nd to do targets in his Packet of you can talk to me know if B or D in his truck tail gate to do targets in his Packet outfit tomorrow morning with Jerry Brown signed legislation and
U have a couple of the fountain however he is under the bench
D was a Dr Pepper jalapeno jerky treats
O am Going tonight along with fried okra in his Packet outfit tomorrow morning with Jerry and I
This was the early years, bong and beer Scott. At 5’11”, he looks like a skate-jock all healthy and grain-fed. Next will be the Cocaine and booze Scott, followed by the Heroin Scott, resulting in an unrecognizably thin, cabaret-rock frontman into the 2000s. Even his vocal range/preference went from this almost baritone to the higher octaves as their records progressed and as Scott went into the Velvet Revolver/solo stages. Regardless of his drastic appearance changes, he was a criminally underrated singer, always brought it on stage regardless of addictions. RIP Scott.
Thanks for watching and commenting
He was supposed to be at Sonic boom in 2015 here in Wisconsin he died one day before my cousin was supposed to see him
Very well said, he was most definitely one of a kind
Chicago 2010 concert live was outstanding
I think he was always charismatic and charming enough to be up there with the likes of Kurt, Layne or Chris.
The amount of times I sat and ate my lunch on that same exact bench unknowing that one of my favorite songs was performed on it by the STP legends Dean & Scott themselves!
You are lucky to be able to sit there. Thanks for watching and commenting
hopefully you got to see them live. so underrated.
their albums didn't do them justice.
@@toddinthemiddle Unfortunately not the day I found out they were playing all the tickets had sold out and this was just before the internet! I have seen a lot of the grunge greats play live in the past luckily.
Very cool
It would be epic to see STP in San Diego on a bench again!
You know a song is great when one vocal and one guitar still make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Great Point!
Kinda like the two voices and one acoustic on More Than Words.
Yes ❤
The guitar part is a masterpiece. I can't relieve such a young musician wrote this. I love this banda.
You ain’t bullshitting!!
I have my lunch on that bench
Ben H That's cool man. Bon Appétit.
I had mine too there everyday' makes me miss London and Scott at the same time
I have lunch there pretty much everyday, and pretty much everyday I think about this performance. some people say that places and things hold some kind of memory. like an energy that gather with time. I don't know about that, but we can definitely fell something special about certain places. Soho Square is one of them.
I sleep and piss on that bench every weekend
Im gonna make it my goal to go and sit on the bench and listen to this version of Plush.
As a musician, this is one of the greatest songs ever composed. The chord structure, rythm, and the melody, glued by the vocals of Scott, just fit perfectly. R.I.P. gone way too soon.
I don't think he ever ( fully) returned after his 2002 departure from STP . 😔
He sounds like layne staley when he talks
yes it is !
Also as a musician and someone who is not a HUGE fan of his band, I definitely agree.
@@matthewjdouglas6471 don’t you dare… that’s blasphemy! Your talking about the greatest voice since Moses!
Scott's speaking voice is similar to Layne Staleys speaking voice. 2 Legends! RIP
And his hair, bread and love for heroin is similar.
Nah Layne’s pitch was sharper
They were so similar in so many ways

@Chillie Poon dude what’s this even have to do with race?

Pffft, yeah you can say that in 2019. And especially in 2022.
Look at how healthy Scott looks here. Don't do heroin kids
Just do a reasonable amount.
Yup. There aint no pot of gold at the end of that rainbow.
Yeah, stick to opium peeps!
Cock A Doodle Doo Fair enough.
Don’t continuously do an ever-increasing amount of heroin for decades until your inevitable demise, kids.

No lip singing here boys, true talent. You are truly missed Scott 🖤🖤
No AI and auto tune too.

Just talent… pure talent…
@@robhughes8516 Let's not go overboard. It's not like this stuff is hard to sing or anything.
Everytime I see him at this stage in his life, I feel sad because he looked so healthy and full in the face. His voice was deeper and had more projection from the chest. By the end, it's true. He was half the man he used to be.
That's sad to say man. I dont know if he would whole heartedly agree. But the truth to that is a knife edge double edged .
Well I don't agree with half the man he used to be...
Because being addicted to drugs has nothing to do with being a man...
I'd bet all the money I got, if you were in his shoes, Joshua pleb ass Jones, you would've died earlier.
Just seen them in Kentucky 2019 they were ok woukdve liked to have seen them when scott was alive hes my fav😍
@@zendokai1527 That's just what junkies say. He was definitely better here than later. You're mad, m8
@@zendokai1527 are you bragging for him that he lived as long as he did on drugs? As if dying is an accomplishment? I wonder if you grasp how stupid you sound.
Pure talent, no auto-tune, synths or computers !! Awesome
What live performers beside Cher and T Pain use autotune? No one. Some dumbass always makes this comment.
@@mikecantreed Notice that very few live performers sound as good as Scott does here. Some dumbass always fails to understand this
mikecantreed Live performers still use quality control, maybe not to the extent where it sounds like “Autotune”. Young artists now have the luxury of having this equipment, nothing wrong with it since you are able to obtain high quality music with “inexpensive” equipment. What’s amazing is that in this video, he is able to mask the sound of his album recording without any strings attached. And some people find that better than technologically edited music because of the imperfections.
Definitely no auto tune on that guitar, could’ve used it. Scott sounded amazing though
mikecantreed that’s because they lip sync lol
His best performance ever in my books. Before the drugs and super fame, this was raw Scott. Beautiful harmony...
For honest people, fame is very hard to manage if not lethal.
@miguelmurill1 very true. Thank you for the thought.
There is a similar version from mtv this is my favorite version and people say it was his favorite as well.
My parents used to have this album on cassette, I was blessed to have been raised with such great tunes in the background, I feel for the kids of today’s generation , some of the music they have in the background is terrible , but for my kids I am repeating the cycle . Rock on 🤘🏼.
Can you imagine what the world is going to be like with adults that grew up on Miley Cyrus and K-Pop bands? Kill me now.
Ha, I had this record on cassette when it first came out! It never survived the 90s and my own kids never gave a crap about the bands I liked. Listened to it on my Walkman while delivering newspapers on my bike. Damn, I feel old now! No longer are there cassettes, Sony Walkman's, and newspapers are all going online these days. People still ride bicycles though, thankfully. Those I would probably miss
I was 16 when this hit and wore out 3 different cassettes jamming to it in my first car. GREAT TIMES
@@KS-oi9ym oh god. You're right. Yikes.
🤘🏼
Can you imagine you're in this square, unaware you're hearing one of the greatest voices of a generation, belting out a classic? Scott was just something properly unique
His transformation is so astounding. This Scott looks like he probably knows how to rebuild a Chevy and smokes Marlboro Reds. The Scott of mid 2000s not so much..Regardless he’s a legend.
Adam Townsend
Yeah .... he looks so healthy here. I forgot this Scott. 20 years of gaunt drug-addled Scott is unfortunately what most of us remember.
Drugs destroyed this man, but not the legend
He did smoke Marlboro reds!!
Singing on a park bench this still sounds better than half the crap that is so called music now
John Ritchie half?
Music is based on opinion I enjoy mostly this kind of music but also modern aswell

@cmtmj2006 meaning the drugs had took over him by then?
Imagine living in that house at 6:04 and looking out your window only to see Scott Weiland singing Plush on a park bench !?😯
I swear, that "voice" of his, just so amazing, soulful, and original. What a terrible loss to the music community. RIP Scott.
Scott has one of the most incredible voices in the history of rock music at this time.
sprdvx Jeff Buckley was amazing as well. Both as a vocalist and guitarist. Sadly, he also died way too early.
Layne Stanley too
That's some exageration there. Nothing special about that voice.
There were so many amazing voices back then. Scott, Kurt, Chris, Gavin (yeah I said it), Eddie, Layne...just raw as fuck and amazing

This is the version of Scott I remember. Watching him fall off and look like a druggie was sad.

Sometimes I wonder if Scott hadn’t tried heroin, he would’ve stayed like this.
He had some cocaine phases as well
He was already smoking H at this point.
Waxhead No, he first tried heroin in August of 1993.

I met Scott in a bathroom at a night club in Pasadena right around this time. His hair was still pink, and growing out. He was humble and very cool. I tried to get him into the VIP room upstairs because my buddy was promoting the club that night and the bouncer wouldn't let him in!

Miss Scott so much. Such a beautiful, eccentric, hopelessly romantic soul
You can instantly tell it's a hit the first time you hear it. There is no doubt.
Hard to believe how full Scott’s face was before the ravages of heroin.
Imagine walking around your city and just stumbling upon STP. So rad
When i first heard this song on the album Core in 1992 driving down a Welsh valley in the U.K i thought god those guitar riffs sound quite Zeppelin like., still listen to the album today. R.I.P Weiland.
Scott had such an amazing voice and talent. He left way too soon. I feel bad for his bandmates as they never really recovered after he got so mixed in with drugs. They tried to make a go of it but STP was never the same without Scott. They had three very solid albums from the get go, with Core and Purple being some of my all time favorites, and it's the like the rug just got pulled from under them. Thanks for uploading this rarely seen video. It would have been amazing to be there and see that.

Imagine being one of the people in the background just walking by that day. If only they had known what they were ignoring at the very moment he started singing.
Rest in peace Scott Weiland. A legend.
He looks like a completely different person. Look at him on the Core tour and then what he looks like afterwards. That's what drugs do to you. I wish this Scott had survived. Think of all the other beautiful music he might have made... R.I.P. Scott. We miss you!
Amen
Scott was an impressive singer. Most of that generation could sing out their hearts and souls with so much truth. Really cannot understand why music has came down so dramatically nowadays. Of course there is a lot of talented people out there doing their job, but certainly faded away as they would never be back there. Be that as it may, 90’s were good ole times!
How he belts out Plush just brings me to tears. They were always one of my favorites. No one like Scott and never will be ever. He was one of a kind. So charismatic, so charming, he just reels you in with that beauty and that silky voice. Oh, how I adore him.
