When I bought my '22 Corolla hatchback, I asked the dealer to enable the all windows down with key fob feature. He said nobody had ever asked for that, but he did it for free. However, he wouldn't disable the seatbelt chime because he said it was a safety issue. So I bought an OBDII ELM327 Bluetooth dongle & signed up for a 7-day free trial of Carista. I made all the changes I wanted & canceled before the free trial expired.
My stealer, Advantage River Oaks Toyota in Calumet City, Illinois, wants $150.00 to program my windows to roll down and the moon roof to open using my remote. I told them no thanks. Now I see that you can do it in 5-minutes. What a scam, I hate stealers. I spent over $36k on a new 2021 RAV4 Limited and they’re too cheap to program the windows for me.💩
I just received it, and I was able to customize my 15 Camry... I wanted to do this a long time ago ❤️. Thanks AMD for sharing this good product with us.
I asked my local dealer about enabling the All Windows Down feature on my 2022 4Runner when I had it in for an oil change. They quoted me over $100! Carista is well worth it! Too bad we can't enable Remote Start.
I have been using Carista dongle for some time now to service couple Audi vehicles as well as my two Lexus vehicles. I find it very useful when I need to disengage E Brake on Audis when replacing rear pads.
I baught this and it is Awesome. It was unable to read Airbag codes for my JDM Toyota Prius 2016. Even after sending them the debug data they could not figure it out. A free android app using Carista was able to read them. Awesome Customizations and happy with what I get for the price.
Thanks ! If I get this I’ll go for the yearly subscription for less than $5 a month. I have the same scan tool that you showed in the first few minutes. It’s a basic one that just gives codes but this is so much more
Oh man I just noticed you have a coupon code for this I have been for a few months now and just never got around to it perfect time and with the stimulus check hitting today I will definitely be using your code
I was going to get one of these when my parents visited, then tweak my 4R (enable my rear window roll-down, etc), my wife's car and my parents car all in the same day.
I have a second set of rims for my 2017 Avalon Limited with non-cloned TPMS sensors, so I need to be able to change ID's with summer and winter tire changeovers. For a number of years now I have successfully used the ATEQ Quickset TPMS ID tool for tire changeovers on my 2009 Accord and 2010 Corolla. The Quickset says that it also covers my 2017 Avalon, but it does not work for me, and repeated conversations with ATEQ customer service was unable to resolve. My Foxwell Elite 510 scan tool with Toyota software was also supposed to support TPMS ID registration, but it does not have that function for my 2017 Avalon. I found the Carista tool and have been using that (paying the monthly fee when I do a tire rim swap) and it does work perfectly for TPMS IDs. I am hoping eventually that Foxwell or ATEQ will resolve the TPMS ID issues for my Avalon, but until then, I have a reliable way to do it with the Carista dongle and app.
Next time save the hassle and get a tpms sensor that clones the existing ID in the factory ones and bam, switch and the car doesn't know any difference.
Bought FIX’D and so far it’s been awesome. I’m not sure if it does everything the product your reviewing does but hope it does. I didn’t know they had different brands with different features. Should have done my homework before I purchased. But so far happy with FIX’D, paid 69 bucks for the yearly subscription. Let’s see if it worth the money.
I just wanted to say thank you sir, your dedication to the subscribers is amazing.!!! I’ve just recently purchased a 2021 Toyota 4Runner that I’m sure to have a question about sooner or later. You get a 👍🏻’s up from me on every single video.!!!! 🙂
IMO, the “open window” mode is disabled because of carjacking danger. I myself set my aftermarket alarm to only open the driver door when I press once and all when I press twice fast. If someone is waiting in ambush it gives me a chance.
Good vid. You got me excited, especially with the TPMS calibration but that’s not an enabled feature on the 2nd gen Tacoma :( I would have definitely looked into ordering one if you could do more than just scan codes.
Show idea: Would you do a show about Toyota & Lexus memory seats? Maybe this tool could enable the memory seat function, yes I found a secondhand 1/2/set controller box? My wife is 4’10.5” and I am 6’ tall. We currently have memory seats in our 2004 RX 330 and 2015 Highlander. We are now spoiled and have decided to insist on memory seats in our next vehicles. Unfortunately, Toyota Lexus do not offer memory seat options in the Corolla, Camry, or lower end Lexus. Thank you for your hard work and great information!!!
Got it and just turned off the artificial augmented sound in GR YARIS :-) Love it. Stays off after one deactivation so really a great way for someone hating the speaker augmented sound :-). GR YARIS is a great machine, sadly no GR YARIS in the US market :-( Usually, it is another way around.
Wait what?? You can roll down the windows from your remote like Honda used to do until early 2010s!! Looks like a cool tool but I checked the customizations for my '16 Tacoma are very limited. You are right though, the TPMS program tool could be fun for my Mud / Road tires swap.
I like this tool like you mentioned it pays for it self for the tpms programming I actually bought this tool since my tpms sender gone bad If they can mange to scan the tpms sensor that would be pretty awesome
another the cons is the company need to upgrade the microchip inside the dongle. the time u need to wait for each menu to appear is long. it really affect between great buy and ok buy.
Ohh thats a tempting to use tool, though I'm so use to using Torque with a BlueTooth OBD2 Adapter. I will say the customize options are super rad though.
8:10 That "open windows with long press" was activated on my 4Runner when I bought it, and within a week of owning the car, the windows were rolled down and the sunroof opened in the rain while I sat inside the house eating my breakfast. I was not impressed that just having the keys in my pocket would be enough to activate such a feature. And then there is no way to CLOSE the windows with the remote! You have to go outside in the rain and use the physical key in the door to close everything up again.
I had used the feature on a consistent basis for my Acura, which came with the feature, and probably the one thing that I miss of the TL. I never came across accidental opening, yikes, that could be a total damage event if the car gets flooded!!! Thanks for sharing, makes sense why Toyota opted out of activating the feature!!!
I finally was able to get an Innova scanner with transmission temperature reading. Not all Innovas do it, only the higher priced ones. I got it in a trade for something I paid much less for. What makes a simple reading of what a temperature sensor is measuring so difficult that the price has to increase by so much? I can’t understand.

I’ve got a 2006 Camry. I so t got no blindspot, smart key, lame keep assist, microwave glovebox, ejection seats, self inflating tires, stop-start, start-stop, stop-stop, start-stop-start! Ooh! Can you disable the driver belt warning??? Sold!!
TPMS programmer for all vehicles cost $150.00 flat. As for the other features this thing does with a monthly fee for a tool you'll only need to use once to change settings you like I can't see paying for it for the rest of your life. Not for me.
I'd be extremely interested in your opinion on Dr. Prius. Myself and others have used this to test the traction battery life expectancy. How accurate do you think it is and do you at the dealership have a way of testing it's life expectancy?
I haven’t had much time with Dr Prius to have an opinion on it. But I will say that there’s no 100% accurate way of testing the hybrid battery. Short of load testing each cell which is not feasible
I initially purchased the dongle a couple of years back after reading that they would be making advanced features about a vehicle I own and that I could sign-up for their beta program. I signed up for their beta on my brand and vehicle. Well over a year later they sent me an email that they were raising the annual subscription prices, but that I could keep the old pricing if I subscribed to their annual plan. I didn’t because they never delivered on the advanced features for my vehicle in their program. After they raised the annual subscription prices they also released the advanced features for my vehicle and I lost out on their old pricing model. To date it sits on my desk as a reminder never to purchase crap again.
@@woodstream6137 Torque Pro from many source code source are free and can do many things. But Carista apps are very useful for older Toyota that may need scantool for reprogram TPMS. Other small stuff like beeping in reverse, beep or light on when key lock/unlock, hybrid battery condition (voltage and internal resistance), etc. are free in Dr. Prius. Those are the most interesting part of how Dr. Prius works great on Carista.
I own the cheap 20 or 30 dollar AUTEL,plus I higher end one that cost me around 400 bucks, plus a blue driver which runs like 100-120. The blue driver is my favorite although the cheap AUTEL is impressive for the price. The expensive one (Innova 5610 2022 model) is very disappointing. Doesn’t really do any more on my 2 Toyotas than the blue driver. The blue driver has NO subscriptions, and it’s pretty fast. I say get the blue driver of these 3. To be fair I don’t have the one he tests in this video, but the subscription thing really turns me off. I get updates for free on all mine.
Can I program my 2021 RAV4 gas model so the engine doesn’t turn off every time I am stopped at a stop light without hitting the override button each time The car is started? Oh and thank you for this and all your videos.
Hi Tom, so unfortunately that can’t be programmed. Carista has access to the provided customization features from Toyota not their own. The auto start stop is an emissions device and can’t be disabled officially through Toyota.
The auto start/stop feature on select Toyota vehicles is an innovative feature that lets you run more efficiently. It works by stopping your engine while your vehicle is stopped, and it starts things up when you're ready to hit the gas. It's effective at reducing waste related to engine idling, and many drivers enjoy its benefits. In the situation where you don't want auto start/stop to be active, disabling the system is simple. To the left of your steering wheel, you'll see an "Off" button. Simply press that button at any point after you've turned on the engine to disable the auto start/stop feature. This will let you keep your engine on, even during long red lights. You may want it to stay on so that you can maintain a cool climate by constantly running the air conditioner, or you may want your engine to continue to run because you need the power to haul a trailer. Once you've pushed the "Off" button, the system will remain off for the duration of the ignition cycle. At any point, you can reactive it by pressing the button again. When you restart your vehicle, everything will go back to the default setting in which the auto start/stop feature is active. Note that there are certain conditions in which the auto start/stop feature will not engage. This includes when you've set your air conditioner to MAX, you're on a very steep include, you've selected power or snow mode, your steering wheel is turned away from center, your battery only has a low charge, you're in stop-and-go traffic, or your fluids are at high temperatures.
Question please. I’m looking for this item on your Amazon store and I can’t find it? Also I went to the website and I don’t see the Tpms sensors under the advanced tab? Is it no longer supported?
Thank you for this recommendation. I think I will get it in the future. I wish I knew about this before I recently bought a newer bluetooth OBDII adaptor. What is your opinion on the TORQUE app if you have not mentioned it in a video yet.
How about a Scan Tool for us guys who do not have one of those hand held computers. I have two Toyotas and really need a Scan Tool. Can you help me find one that does not need :"apps" and a phone thing? Thanks for all your videos.
Hello my friend! I have a very specific question that could help a lot of Toyota/Lexus owners, and I’m willing to pay you just to confirm it can be done. But it has to be with Techstream dealer level. Not TechStream lite. 2015-2018 Lexus owners(Toyota too I’m sure) just had Enform services shut down in October. I didn’t care about being able to remote start from the stupid smartphone app…but I did from my remote key fob. Even to remote start from the key fob, you had to subscribe to Enform. It is now shut down. What I need to know specifically, can TechStream re-enable remote start with my key fob. I wouldn’t have this problem if I kept my Enform subscription till the end of October, but my credit card expired and forgot to update it. My wife kept it till they shut down Enform services, and she can still remote start with her key fob. It was basically left enabled. I believe dealer level Techstream can re-enable this in my 2016 RX450h. Is there anyway you can look in to this? I will be happy to donate for your time
Thank you for your videos...any suggestion how to do a lenghty scan or upgrade procedure with a Prius in Ignition mode so that 12V battery does not drop under 12 Volts? I have several Battery Chargers
Thank you for all the excellent videos you have created. I have the Carista dongle and use it with the "car scanner" app dashboard to show oil temp, water temp etc. I am waiting on the 2023 Corolla hybrid hatchback to arrive and wonder where I can get the specs for the normal ranges for oil temp, inverter temp, hybrid battery voltage etc. It is great to be able to display the values, but it would have more meaning knowing what the range of 'normal' values are. Does Toyota make these publicly available? cheers
Thanks for the video! Could you please make a video on how to choose the right bulbs/LEDs for Toyota. I want to replace the fog lights and turn signals with LEDs in my 2020 Rav4 hybrid. Could you please discuss this topic? What to look at, how to choose, how to install correctly and not damage the electronics? In particular, the question is, is it possible to put daytime lights from the RAV4 prime on the Rav4 hybrid? Thank you very much!
Hi how long does it take for Toyotas cumputers to learn the driving of the owner and is Toyota the only one with this or others also have this learning like Honda and.........
@@TheCarCareNut thanks for answering but what about the engine I know when u change a battery in a Toyota it goes crazy for a while do other companies also have it engine learning thanx?
One major issue most Americans fail to grasp, China builds quantity where Japan builds quality. Why? China has over 1 billion people to feed and they’re controlled by the CCP.
I am getting a 2023, 1794 Tundra Hybrid. I am going to be adding larger tires. Would I be able to update the tire size with Carista or can the dealership update the size? I asked our local dealership and the service manager said they would have to check. Thank you!
I wish they would auto stop/start disable. Is there a way to do that through software? The only thing I dislike about RAV4. You can get a special switch harness to do this. around $40.
Regarding a 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid. So you plug the dongle in, turn on the car (push the start button once) and wait for the down load data to be completely processed by the Carista software in the iPhone. How long can one leave the power on before that tiny 12v battery in the trunk gets upset.
Clever device. I did not see any audio options. We are not interested in using Entune so have never created an account. Each time we turn on the car (2020 Corolla) get a firmware update nag screen. The screen cannot be permanently disabled so we have to do it each time we start the car. I find it annoying to spend thousands of dollars for a car and have to deal with advertising.
@@TheCarCareNut Thanks for researching this. Unfortunately both our phones (Moto E) are low on system memory so we cannot install new apps. That is annoying because the MicroSD card has lots of room but most stuff cannot be moved to it. So fixing they annoying Toyota feature will need to wait until we replace the phones.
It's a good and honest review, well-balanced with appropriate caveats. I'd like to extend it, a bit, by doing a contrast and compare with my Blue Driver (given the information in your review). 1. The most significant positive for this Carista app/Bluetooth OBD dongle is its ability to perform bi-directional functions. The current iteration of Blue Driver does not have this function, at all. Having said that, most of the bidirectionality discussed in the review is customization of features (lighting, sounds) rather than diagnostic bidirectionality. The one exception seems to be TPMS sensor registration which is a significant function. 2. It has a lower initial cost for purchase, even with a year's subscription, than Blue Driver. 3. ECU ID data is a significant positive. 4.a. Significant negatives: As you mentioned, Carista does not have the Live Data function. That's a curious omission. Recently, I've found the Live Data mode to be very useful, in diagnosing and subsequently replacing an OEM MAF. (Even after a CRC spraying of both the MAF and throttle body, the MAF's readings were all-over-the-place under similar conditions. I bought a used OEM (Avalon donor) from a salvage yard. After the replacement, "life is good," as you often say. I would not have had this diagnostic capability with Carista. 4.a.1. Let's call this "your mileage will vary" (which is something you've pointed out, in the review). I have a 2008 Camry LE. My wife has a 2013 Honda Fit Sport. Here's how "the mileage varies:" On the Camry, many of the "lights and sounds" functions are customizable, but the TPMS sensor reprogramming is not (according to the Carista web page). That's the one bi-directional function that I would value, and it's not available for my Camry, with the Carista package. On the Fit, ALL of the advanced features are NOT available. No enhanced/mode 6 data, no customizations, nada. It's about as functional as a $15 OBD wireless dongle. With the Blue Driver, I have Live Data, Enhanced/Mode 6 Data, state emissions testing, etc. It's clear that for the Fit, the Blue Driver is a better buy. __ Summary: With the exceptions of the ECU ID and TPMS sensor registration, bidirectional functions are limited to an equivalent of tweaking the sounds, touch screen and visual elements of an Android phone, or a Linux laptop. There's not much in the way of diagnostic bidirectionality, IMHO. In addition, it appears that the Carista package is geared toward higher end models, with more sophisticated functions, rather than the less technologically-dense features of my 08 Camry and my wife's 2013 Honda Fit. That's the target market (vehicles with lots of newer sensors and technologies), rather than for the DIYer with less dense technological vehicles. My conclusion is based, in part, of a nearly complete lack of support for my wife's 2013 Fit. My wish list would have been for Carista to include more functional diagnostic bidirectionality (which is what a higher-end scan tool allows), rather than just mostly cosmetic tweaks to existing features. Without Live Data, and with a lack of support for enhanced diagnostics for more basic models, such as the Fit, Carista is not for me, although it may well suit the needs and dispositions of others.
Very well said and agreed on the live data! If they add this and a few other functions they could really rival others and even if they raise their price they could be a very comprehensive tool.
Conjecture: The lack of live data availability plus largely non-diagnostic bidirectionality may not be an inadvertent omission. (We'd have to ask Carista, of course). If Carista's goal is to allow owners (or leasers) of later model, middle-to-upper end vehicles to endless fuss, tweak and play with all the various "taste" functions, then it's less a DIY tool and more a customization of pre-existing features tool. I don't pretend to know what goes on in the marketing department at Carista. But, given what I've seen and heard, that is, how customization is apparently prioritized over diagnostics, the notion that this app is primarily a customization tool, not a diagnostic tool, is a plausible proposition.
I communicated to them exactly that. Perhaps a different version or a more serious version with all the capabilities even for a higher price would make sense so people can choose the tool based on their needs.
@@TheCarCareNut Whether they'll be receptive to your input depends on what their marketing strategy dictates, and whether they are willing to make adjustments. If they are targeting the mid-to-higher end of the car owner/consumer market, they probably won't make much of an adjustment. If they decide to branch out, and become an inexpensive alternative to bidirectional units such as Autels, well that's another scenario. Obviously, they have the capabilities to implement bidirectional inputs. Whether they want to develop Carista for the DIY market, well, that, too, will become obvious over the next year or so. I appreciate that you incorporated some of my comments into your conversation with the Carista folks.
Hello! Thank you for the detailed feedback. BlueDriver is a great adapter indeed but despite some similarities it is pretty different from Carista so it's not that simple to compare them. I will try to touch most of the points you mentioned. 1) Live data: Our tech team is working on this currently and researching it. We will be releasing live data parameters for some other brands like VW and Audi soon and then continue with Toyota/Scion/Lexus. 2) Brand support: We are trying to provide as many features for the brands we support currently so our goal is to first offer an extensive list of tools and settings available for specific brands and then continue our efforts on developing new brands. This is the reason we don't support Honda or some other brands, we don't want to offer a limited support for them just for the sake of adding them as "supported" brands but actually bring as much value as we can for the users. 3) Yes, Carista app is better suited for newer models as we try to develop a lot of customizations (codings) for a specific vehicle and usually, older models do not support such settings. Of course, there are also some hardware limitations we have when it comes to old models as they use very different communication protocols. 4) Diagnostic bidirectionality: We are indeed a bidirectional tool when it comes to diagnostics ( you can read more on the topic here: www.motor.com/magazine-summary/bidirectional-scanner-controls-2-way-diagnostic-highway-april-2005/ . I see you are referring to the TPMS tool, basically it is not a diagnostic feature, it is part of the service tool section where we are looking to add more such tools.

Ok, so this device does not have anything more than basic features for my vehicle, so it’s a no-go for me. Do you have any recommendations for a ‘at the line’ OBD scanner for my 2008 Lexus RX 350? Love your channel, by the way. 👍🏻

Good day AMD! I have bought this scanner from your Amazon store. It did most of changes I wanted to make to my 2021 Rav4 Limited. But there is one thing that drives us(my family) crazy! And I hope that you can lead me in the right direction. Every time any door is closed with engine running and smart key is outside the car it beeps 8 times. So when we bring our daughter to school I step out of the car, close my drivers door - it beeps 8 times, I open the rear drivers side door to get her backpack, close the door - it beeps 8 times, my wife leaves the vehicle briefly to get our child out, she closes the passengers door - it beeps 8 times, she closes the passengers side back door after getting our child out - it beeps 8 times. I think you got by this point what am I after! Is there any way how to stop that beeping? Thanks!
Hello Sir, your videos are very informative. I am planning to purchase Carista after watching this video. My concern is, will it detect the problem on my Toyota Prius V 2013 ( 190,000 miles) that throws overheat sign comes on for few seconds and goes off, after 15 to 20 minutes of driving. To be more precise, ( I think) , the overheat sign stays on during the period when thermostat opens and coolant circulates gushing into the reservoir tank. I recently changed Thermostat ( aftermarket thermostat) and got the coolant flushed at the dealer so that it shouldn't have any air in the cooling system. Could it be that Coolant Temperature sensor is misreading the temperature. I really appreciate your reply. Thank you.
Hi! Carista can’t view live data which you might need to access to see what’s going on with your Prius. If there are not trouble codes you will need to see what’s happening with the coolant temp reading when the light comes on
@@TheCarCareNut Can you please recommend any other scan tool that reads live data so that I can know if the overheat sign is due to faulty coolant temperature sensor or aftermarket thermostat or blown head gasket in it's initial stage assuming there's no air in the coolant system after driving in this condition for six months ( system might have self burped the air from the coolant system).

Also, while I don't mind paying subscriptions for things I use, I will only be using this to turn off the annoying warning beeps. and probably wont use it again for a long time.
The seat belt chime is there for a reason. The dealer would be held liable if they disabled a safety feature.

Should have done my homework before I purchased. But so far happy with FIX’D, paid 69 bucks for the yearly subscription. Let’s see if it worth the money.
Actually that's too much for those functions

IMO, the “open window” mode is disabled because of carjacking danger. I myself set my aftermarket alarm to only open the driver door when I press once and all when I press twice fast. If someone is waiting in ambush it gives me a chance.

Tom B, What model do you have? I have a 2021 Limited AWD and it doesn’t have the start-stop. If it did, then I would have bought something else.

Hi! Not it won’t. You’re changing settings that Toyota allows to be changed.
Hi! You can actually start the car and connect it to the car as well.
Hi! Is the screen that comes up is asking for an update?
@@TheCarCareNut Correct, says need Entune to update. There are a couple of options but none to dismiss it permanently.

@@TheCarCareNut Thanks for researching this. Unfortunately both our phones (Moto E) are low on system memory so we cannot install new apps.
Here's how "the mileage varies:"
On the Camry, many of the "lights and sounds" functions are customizable, but the TPMS sensor reprogramming is not (according to the Carista web page).
__
Summary: With the exceptions of the ECU ID and TPMS sensor registration, bidirectional functions are limited to an equivalent of tweaking the sounds, touch screen and visual elements of an Android phone, or a Linux laptop.

Hi! I followed the Amazon link and did not find the tool. Can you please provide the new link or direct me to another tool that I can use to change my Toyota's customizations?
One more question,
Would it be ok to install one of those ( pedal throttle) to by pass the throttle action and make it respond faster when barely touching the gas pedal? Would it void my warranty?
I have a 2021 C-HR, so you might know why I want to install it , lol
Also, do you have a review about the C-HR? If not, would you please make one? Heheh
You are the man! Thank you !!!!!
Hi! No harm in installing a pedal commander or something similar. Will do a review of the chr in the future
