In 4 billion years one singular - all related - life form developed here. If it was easy, many unrelated life forms would be here in this paradise for life. Timing and travel time isolate us to no chance of discovery or communication with anyone else,
That life form developed the ability to express itself in the last few years for how long will it have that ability.

I was a research scientist for a leading US chip company. 99% of the projects that used AI could have been done better, faster and more reliable without AI. How much uncertainty in outcome are we willing to tolerate?

Yeah, "AI" concept is so messed up because marketers know how easy it is to use a fascinating word incorrectly to manipulate people. Just like "smart," turned from smart phones into everything including "smart water." Or, the word "algorithm," which is more often used to replace "filter." Such as youtube keyword filtering is now "algorithm," but has nothing to do with algorithms whatsoever.
The concepts you give with the coffee maker are also not AI. I have programmed a lot of industrial machinery, and tracking data like frequency of certain occurrences (such as number of cups at a certain time) are just a set of data values which are stored then used by the rest of the program to trigger how often and when to perform a certain response. The machine never learned anything, just kept a tally as preprogrammed, even when we do it with tens of thousands of different inputs to control large processes in huge factories.
When I saw a pair of "AI powered" binoculars - I threw in the towel - Who the F#@k needs a pair of AI powered binoculars???
There is so much "clickbate" these days that it has become very diluted from what it really is.
Much of what you describe as AI could easily be predicted by the same algorithms previously in use over the last several decades.

Some AI is more than what you said and some AI will be the creation of AI very fast if not controlled by goals and limits.
A solar flare could disrupt everything and that is not AI's only risk. It has to deal with humans, for example.

AI can use Xray what ever at its disposal to check for flaws building rockets or cars. AI can understand bigger picture of supply demand customers for you business, 5G can help AI with real time, marketing, payroll etc

I agree, tired of AI being used as a buzzword. I just see simple programs designed to look smart but are stupid on the back end
X - Grok for News was already done by Yahoo to be honest it is not anything new, Elon is just applying that on X and Grok.
Space needs Artificial Intelligence to inform you when will be the best day to launch a rocket from weather to move traffic, but the Ai model needs to be limited only use.
The paradox is nonsense theory at this point in the age of Ai and the James Webb Telescope, or even Hubble telescope, we have the ability to in Space and with an observatory on the ISS we can see the world 3/three dimensional with a rotational axis.
That even includes our alien neighbours here on Earth are proofing the paradox theory is wrong.😑

AI in a car, voice assistant, car assistant, it will be crazy
From our own personal experience we have this problem with AI, right out of the gate. My girlfriend and I use alternative health solutions and people routinely think we are decades younger. Anytime we asked a health related question the only answer we can get, even when using a specifically worded response, is what the main stream is pushing and so AI appears to be skewed. Also, many times it's like talking to a politician, a canned answer that seems to be parroting whatever political philosophy of the programmers. It would be nice if AI was completely impartial and just gave actual observable facts. I've been in construction my entire adult life and I'm used to seeing results that follow common sense and just the way things actually work. AI seems to be perpetuating this dream world that people think is true.
Hey there J, I acquired the T-mobile internet service with a waveform antenna to replace our dsl service. The speeds are triple and that is great. But we are on our second modem because we were having constant reboots. Well, the second modem is doing the same thing. Do you have any suggestions as to what could be the cause or issue from your experience? I have a distant, I'm in my late sixties, working knowledge of modems, networking and network administration and none of my work arounds have solved the issue. Thanks for your reply.
