Two qustions: 1: Why are screw jacks used instead of simpler hydraulic cylinders for aircraft control surfaces? 2: Thy are turboprops started wwith the propeller in the full feathered position? This creats enormous side-load air resistance on the prop as it rotates. Wouldn't starting from the neutral thrust position (between thrust and reverse thrust) creat less strain on every part of the prop, gear box, and engine?
1: Screw jack is usually used for vertical stabilizer. It is kinda robust and allows to use either electric or hydraulic motors for trimming. When experiencing hydraulic or electrical failure screw jack just stays in place and you can still control the plane (assuming that you'r elevator is working). With hydraulic pistons it would take insane load, and if there was a leak stabilizer could start to move freely causing loss of control. 2: Only free turbine engines are started in feathered position. As the power turbine is not connected to the gas generator turbine, it does not creates a very big load at low GG turbine RPMs. ATR-72 could even start it's engine with propeller locked in place, so the GG turbine can rotate well even when power turbine is not turning at all. There is no gear box between prop and power turbine in free turbine engines, so it won't strain the part that does not exist ;-)
Absolutely, moron. You weren't even born or were too busy playing with your little wang when this experimental airborne laser 747 (a.k.a. YAL -1A) was testing its software and hardware to shoot down tactical ballistic missiles while in the boost phase. Unfortunately, then secretary of defence Roberts Gates, the same man who stopped the F-22 Raptor, pulled the plug on the program. FYI, On February 11, 2010 in a test at Point Mugu Naval Air Warfare Center-Weapons Division Sea Range off the central California coast, the system successfully destroyed a liquid-fuel boosting ballistic missile. Así es amigo, desde Costa Rica.
No.
That must be one strong laser pointer
Laser in plane?
We are one step closer to make ADFX-Morgan in real life
Absolutely, moron.
It's on RUclips.

USA 🇺🇸 super country best weapons
Not afraid, the laser was proof of concept for other applications.
We have the technology now so bring it back and enhance it.
No body is feared its care and concern for countrymen. It aint wrong its humble its sheer emotions for innocent people. Even fear for war means that some one dont want to lose some one near. We all hate war for the destruction, agony and misery it leaves afterwards. And this is the fear that every country carries on its shoulders because of the affection they have with their countrymen. The word fear is not right for USA...infact US should have mean we, all around the world are feared of wars and some serious military and political stupiditys, that have led this beautiful world time and again to the mouth of undesired hell. So love each other so that theres no Russia vs America etc and it become difficult to identify humans based on race and country. So that we never have a WAR waiting somewhere for the lives of innocent it doesnt know any country it means blood and agonies only.
Honestly, I can't think of a good reason that all of our airplanes don't have laser cannons...
Those planes that will be fitted with lasers needs to have a very powerful energy source at which needs to be compact to fit in the current planes we have.
@@Kaynahkier
Turbine engines generate a lot of electrical power.
@@brussell639 Try balancing it while powering the plane its powerplant and when firing laser. For larger planes this would work but for something like a fighter jet that's something that's being worked at.

Just so you know, I was talking about Star Wars kind of lasers, not this bullshit the military calls a laser.

the words 'US' and 'afraid' don't belong together.
Fear is what defined many of the US's more questionable military actions in the 20th century. It absolutely does.
Say that about free healthcare, they seem pretty scared to be a better society.

That DEW on that plane is kinda mad looking at Maui. Still people wont believe eh
Its just a coincidence that North Korean Missiles just fell into the Pacific ocean . Especially when they reached a area that they would fall harmless into the ocean. Imagine the intell that could have been gathered had they been downed by a laser at a coordinated spot and retrieved by a naval vessel before they were able to sink in deep water ? Just a thought
Lol. A giant laser pointer was installed on the plane! For a combat laser, you need the energy of a nuclear reactor, which is produced by an American nuclear cruiser or a Russian reactor that fits in the Peresvet Complex truck or in the Petrel cruise missile of unlimited range.)))
That has to be one hell of a small person to fly the X-51.
And most of that is the booster rocket, not the X-51 itself.
I believe they pulled it out of mothballs for some additional tests not long ago
Rusia le tenia tanto miedo a USA que desarrollo misiles hipersonicos 🤷
