I have just taken apart my factory Blythe but don’t have any supplies yet due to covid. I have never customized a doll in my 47 years nor do I have an artistic bone in my body but I sooooo want to try!! Thank you for your informative video. I was mesmerized by all of it. Best video I’ve seen in a long time and believe me I’ve watched many! I’ve subbed so I can watch your finish! Please make more. I never bore of Blythe customization videos!
Oh wow! Thank you so much!! I love to see new takes on Blythe customisation too, can't get enough of these lovelies! I hope you'll manage to get started on your customisation, it's tricky to get supplies for sure - you'll see me having to hastily adapt in a pinch in the next one ;) Best of luck!

So I gave it a go... Lol but I messed up biggg time!! My rotery tool was too strong i think..... because on the lowest setting it took huge chunks out lol her face. I got the same bits you use :) just need to get a new tool... May i ask what you use? Mine seems more strong for wood work maybe? But it was fun practicing lol you can see my mess up on my page, i did a short clip of it. Her lips are gone 😂😂😂😂💖 but hey...we gotta start somewhere right??? 😂😂😂😂😳
Hiya! I watched your video, I don't think you did too bad at all! I have seen people do faces using only hand tools (like a scalpel), which might be something you can practice? I do think the hardest thing to master with these faces is a light touch. Less is more and I Still need to learn to refine my sanding at the end, smoothing everything properly before I do the face-up. My rotary tool unfortunately isn't manufactured any more, but it's a full on power tool like you describe yours, pretty hefty! Keep practicing (you can buy the face plates on their own to practice on) and you'll find your groove!! ;)

All of my Blythe, accept the one customized Blythe I bought from Etsy (Russian artist); I have bought them off AliExpress. Bought them expecting to customize them right away....then life happens. And I fell in love with them as is. As they are cute! Have you ever done boy Bythe dolls? I have 5, I'd like to see that❤👍

Thanks for being so generous with your advice and knowledge. Your work is beautiful. I was amazed seeing you make a pair of tiny shoes. I was thinking what can this woman NOT do lol?
hey amazing work, it inspired me to try do make one. Where can I get it in custom shape like this just clear face head and body, does the hair goes with it also ?
Thanks for watching 😊 I would say roughly 2-3 days for the sculpting and face up, but of course a professional might do it quicker, and a more elaborate design could take longer! Then there’s re-rooting or wig making on top of that if needed. Hope it helps!
Hi! Is there a difference between carving vs using drills? Is drilling more precise and carving more controlled? I want to also change the nose, so I don’t know if I need to buy a variety of tools! Thank you
I would start out with just hand carving tools (links and tool info in my FAQ page at bethramsden.com) like woodcarving tools, and a simple scalpel. the drill is faster, but creates many more scratches, and is too easy to cut too deep for a beginner I think. It's important to have patience and a light touch, but it just comes with practice. Also be prepared to do a lot of sanding! (from 400 - 1200 grit) Hope that helps! ^_^
@@BethRamsden hello! with just 1000+ grit I matted the face with light touch easily. Why do people recommend to use lower? It’s too rough and made more scratch marks. Also how can I pastel paint then matte seal the eyes without ruining the lashes? It came with the mechanism very beautifully “sleepy eyes.” Thank you!
Agreed, I like the sponge backed sand paper too, it’s very easy to work with! If I’m keeping the original lashes then I will mask them off with masking tape. I cut a gentle curve into it, and wrap it over the ends of the lashes. I demonstrate this in some of my customising videos. Otherwise, if I’m replacing the lashes then I colour the lids before inserting the new ones. Hope that helps 🤞
@@BethRamsden hi my blythe’s lips aren’t popping out as much, but there is a somewhat down. I think I carved the lines and the outline deeper so they can stand out but it’s not super noticeable. I’m about to use the drill, should I drill on the skin outside the lips so the lips can pop? Or somewhere else? Thanks!
I think if you’ve got it close to what you want, I would stick to using a small curved scalpel blade, and just gently scrape away the material outside of your lip lines (if you want to bring them ’out’ more) The drill is good for large areas and dramatic changes, but really you can customise the whole face without it. Best of luck! 🤞🥰
Hi, do you mean after you’ve been carving? If so, you’ll need lots of light, and you’ll just have to look closely and make sure that it’s very smooth. As any kind of scratches or roughness are going to catch pigment when you add colour later. You might consider a magnifying glass if you don’t trust your own eyesight (I need my reading glasses to scrutinise them with 😆👀) Hope that helps! ✨☺️✨

@@nicolegonzalez3781 It’s no problem at all! I’m certainly no expert, just an enthusiastic learner 😆 I hope you’ll find as much joy in the hobby as I do! Good luck! 😊
no mask? this plastic is toxic :(
You’re absolutely right! I will be properly masked for the next one I do!!
Where can you get official Blythe dolls in the u.s? I’ve looked on Amazon but people said they were fake 🥲
I’m in the UK, I bought my genuine Blythe dolls direct from Junie Moon in Japan. I know you can also buy genuine Blythe’s from C.C.Toys too 😊
@@BethRamsden thank you so much!
You dont have to explain so much. We can see.
I'm sorry it was too much for you, Sculpting can be quite a nebulous subject for beginners to get in to, and so many people getting in to the hobby prefer to have more information than too little!
@@BethRamsden Please don't mind the comment above, I really like your video as it is!
@@marikopecka8821 I appreciate that thank you! 😊 I know I can’t please everyone 😆
There is fresh beginners out there who really need as much help and instructions as possible and you don't need to be rude about it this video is to help others so of course there will be a lot of explaining
