How to Cut Hole In TILE for SHOWER HEAD --- With the The tools You Have!

- The hole you need to cut for the shower head pipe coming out of the wall can be done with a hole saw, a 4-1/2" angle grinder with a diamond blade or a wet tile saw. The nice thing about this cut, is that it doesn't have to be perfect because the escutcheon on the shower arm provides some room for error.
This video shows how to cut the hole in the tile using both the angle grinder and the tile wet saw. By carefully marking the hole location on both the front and back of the tile, the cut can be made from the back of the tile. - Наука
Good parting message, we do all need to unify and treat each other with kindness. Merry Christmas!
I've never actually had a tiled shower that was for me. I even own my own home, and it had a Tub / Fiberglass walls. I couldn't afford to hire a professional, so I started looking around to learn to do it myself. After watching you for a year now, i'm 3/4 the way through tiling my shower. Because of you, and your videos i'll be taking a shower in my own tiled shower when I finish. So, thanks for being my TileCoach!
Your last comment about motivation made me feel better about my master bathroom that has been in the demo state for two months. Gonna getter done by Feb 2023! :)
Still today the weight of your closing message is so needed and appreciate, Thank you, always love and respect and many blessings.
Straight to the point unlike the clownish DIY on other channels. DIY like this is needed to show people to use the tools they already have. Don't need to spend money on a new tool for just 1-time use. Great job Tile coach!
Great advice - thank you. I have never installed/cut tile before so now I can move forward in my life.
I did tile for over 20 years, I almost always used this method
I am really glad to have found your channel Coach. I am a retired carpenter who has done many bathroom gut jobs to finish. When you only do tile , maybe once a year or more you need to refresh the brain. I am doing a 3`x4` shower stall with 18x18 tile. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Liked your final statement at the end of this video. I , myself have been getting a little squirrely lately with this covid mess . Keep on keeping on Coach.
Hey Isaac! I do a similar thing but make a circular hole by doing what you do, but not going all the way through (3/4 way through tile from back) and then making a cross(not diagonal) in the middle and then knocking it out. I'll make a vid tomorrow at work if you would like to see! Always great content, been watching you for a few years now. Love from small town Dunedin, New Zealand.
Sounds like a good idea. I'd like to see it
Love your attitude on life!
What an excellent close to the video. You seem to be on the right path, I really appreciate the effort you put in on the videos. A wealth of information that has singlehandedly guided my decisions in renovating my master bath by myself. Keep it up bro
Thanks I learn a lot from you great Teacher
You’re Avery nice guy excellent teacher I learn a lot of skills from you
Thanks for all your videos!
Excellent video, I should have checked this out before buying a hole saw. But thank you very much for the post Isaac
Thanks for an informative video.
Great Chanel Isaac
Thanks for the tips mate, saved me a buck!
Nice lesson; thank you.
Helpful as always!
Thanks TC. Love you too. God bless you bro
Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Nice job buddy keep it up 👍
Good stuff Mr. Iaasac!
Dude, get a guard on that grinder your a brave soul. Lol
Your videos are fantastic!
God bless you and Merry Christmas
GREATEST THANKS, WILL FOLLOW YOURS INSTRUCTIONS.THANKS RALPH( DIY HOME)🏡🙏.
I learned to layout the cut the same way but to use the flat side of the grinder wheel to shallow out the material then punch it through the face with a nailset. That's what happens when a cowboy teaches you how to set tile. Now I'm all about the hole saw
Nice video, and good thoughts go a long way 😀
Isaac, I love your videos, and you are giving me the confidence to take on my next project, but I have one question: Why do you float the shower walls?
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. God bless! Thank you for positivity!
It is one year after your video post I think I still like your closing.
Good 👍👍👍
You just saved me from crashing a tile job
Used a diamond hole saw to cut all mine today. I did use a wood board cut-out as a guide, but it worked. Apparently I suck at measuring but plenty of time to get it right. The shower head I got in 2 cuts
I knew you would have the answer. Great video! I just subscribed. 👍 I’m tiling a shower / tub area.
Quick question. When I’m laying out my tile, should I lay it out so that the holes for shower head, tub spout and on/off valve are in the center of a tile? Thanks
I have a mini-grinder from Ryobi. I don't know if it would work, but maybe the small radius would be helpful.
Does this also apply to porcelain?
Also, can I drop some water onto the cutting blade of my angle grinder to make a cut into porcelain tile already set on the shower wall? I'm a newbie and have huge fear of ruining or breaking the tile.
Thanks for the video, really helpful.
Pearl blades are nice
Hey coach. Isn't there some kind of drill bit that you could take your time and work real slowly?
Got a question for u about tiling next to a tub, but not sure where to ask. I've tiled my bathroom. In doing so, I left a gap between the tile and the bathtub. The gap is not filled with grout or thinset. There's not a lot of info about best way to handle the gap. Should I have our grout there (I still can). Or should I have put thinset and then grout right up against the tub? I assume I'd want to put a small like if caulk as well.
If you have an existing hole in tile that is already on the wall that needs to be widened to get a tool inside do you recommend using the little grinder to make it bigger?
I have a masonry wheel. Do you need a blade made specially for tile?
the way i learned it 32yrs ago on tile saw no grinders. 🤙🏼
In your opinion what is the best hole saw bit for tile
Hey.. issac! Can you help me with this question?
Why is not recommended do installation of tile
Brick pattern?
Even if you don't have the hole saw blade for the grinder, you're gonna have a drill. Just pay $20 for a hole saw to cut for the shower head. It literally takes seconds, and is a perfect hole.
I did exactly that today. Used a 2×4 with a holes saw cut as a guide. Score one for the good guys
Great video showing again how to cutout holes. Pretty great and think anyone can follow those instructions.
Also, some holes saws are $10 or around there (+ or - $5-$10) and even if burn up the hoe saw for a job, might be worth it for a DIYer etc…
Happy Holidays O-Tile🙏🏼
Hi Isaac ..great video as always …can I ask why you do t keep guard on your Grinder?….thanks
It gets in the way and actually makes using the grinder akward
Hey Isaac if you do anymore testing videos I think it would be neat to test how well Thinset bonds to WEDI sealant. I'm intrigued by the lack of banding on a WEDI system because as a novice it seems a lot easier to manage rather than accidentally wrinkling membrane over and over.
I run into a lot of 12x24’s that split any time you try and cut in the middle of the tile. Do u have this problem with tiles you use?
Are you dealing only with marble? Ive never had porcelain or ceramic split like that.
This happens a lot for me when a client gets a lower quality tile. They tend to have a less dense body and the vibrations shatter the tile. I put a piece of drywall or foam board under the tile when grider cutting. I have worked with many tile a manual cutter wont score without breaking.
With the saw unplugged and the blade dry, set a Sharpie on the table, aimed the tile's thickness from the edge of the blade, and hand-spin the blade to draw a circle on the blade. When plunge cutting, you will know when the blade is breaking though when said circle is even with the tile surface.
Dude I Was wondering why do you remind me of someone from a long time. Now I know!
You're actually the white version of 50 cent :D
Is that an Imer tilt head in the background?
That's called a goof plate in the trades. 😅
🤝
I get these videos about different techniques but if you dont have a holesaw, go buy a hole saw. lol. especially if you are tiling more one water outlet.
FINGER 🤞 😳
Just drill small holes must faster as a center.
The real question is how do you check the pipe connection isn't leaking?
Plug it, and turn the water on before you put board up.
@@MattCupan I did that part. I'm worried about the threaded parts being taped and doped right.
What I did was make sure the fitting was close to where the back of the tile would be when it was finished. That way I can still easily see it, but it’s deep enough that the threads don’t show.
@@yoyoitsKerry your over thinking it I've never had one leak I use tape that way I can tell it's a snug fit if it feels a little loose take it off and re tape it till you can barely get it in the correct position by hand if it's close maybe use vice grips or what ever covering the pipe with something so it won't get scratched obviously but usually can get it by hand and if your realy worried about it try looking in the access panel if it has one
I installed a shower base for a customer. She was gonna have her girlfriends over, tile the shower, and have some wine, all at the same time. I only had to cu the hole out for the shower head, cause she forgot about it. Wasn’t the worst job I’ve ever seen. Fun lady.
Seems very crude for the level of work typical on your channel.
Read the title! Excellent video /very helpful
I am not to faithful for the finger test…
My opinion but it’s better to cut the face side first huh?? Chisel that’s scary lol
I don't trust myself to do it that way.
Why can’t you just make your marks on the back of the tile to begin with? I was just wondering.
