CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Having finally discovered the breeding nest for the bugs, Dr. Mann (Jeremy Northam) tries to destroy them all by lighting an exposed gas line.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
While one would imagine that the average New Yorker would be used to dealing with bugs after years of apartment dwelling, a scientific experiment gone wrong results in an insect that even Raid can't handle in this sci-fi/horror thriller. In Manhattan, cockroaches are spreading a deadly disease that is claiming hundreds of the city's children, so entomologist Susan Tyler (Mira Sorvino) uses genetic engineering techniques to create what she and her colleague (and husband) Peter Mann (Jeremy Northam) call the Judas Breed, a large insect that will feed on the disease carrying roaches. Since the Judas bugs have been designed so that they can't breed, the mutated species should die out in a matter of a few years. However, Susan, Peter, and their staff severely underestimated the cockroach's ability to adapt to its conditions. The Judas Breed has indeed found a way to reproduce itself, but more importantly, the insect has grown remarkably large (sometimes reaching six feet in length), has developed a taste for meat, and can mimic the appearance and behavior of other creatures with uncanny accuracy -- including humans. Susan and Peter have learned that huge swarms of the Judas Breed are living beneath the city in the subway system, and with the help of Leonard (Charles S. Dutton), a transit system employee who knows the labyrinth of subway tunnels like the back of his hand, they search out the humanoid insects before they can take over the city. Mimic also features Giancarlo Giannini, Josh Brolin, and F. Murray Abraham.

the part where he jumps into the water after igniting the gas is wrong. the second that gas ignites it'll create a very fast moving blast wave that'd be powerful enough to blow a person to pieces. but if he did manage to escape the blast and heat, the dude who caused the explosion is gonna have some explaining to do. unless there isn't any way to prove that the explosion was caused by someone intentionally damaging a gaspipe

He was literally at the center of that explosion. LOL
How did he survived that when the bugs further away died? LOL
Maybe he dove first then made the spark. But they couldn't show it simultaneously

Even (I don't understand) why director Guillermo del Toro says he hates this movie if it's a very good movie.
The music in this scene was reused in The Faculty. Don't know if it was an intentional nod, a request by the director or just a case of being downright lazy.

people are complaining about his survival but what about the realism of being able to create a spark that way? realistic or no?
depends on how old that tool he used was. that was a special tool that is designed for use by firefighters. the modern ones are of a nonsparking alloy that costs about triple what the same tool out of normal toolsteel would cost. nonsparking alloys were developed a bit after World War 2. the tool looked old, certainly older than 1980s, so it might be an early example that only had a coating, which in theory could be damaged and would then allow the steel underneath to spark when struck just right.

Apparently W.S. Anderson is making a tv show about this. It'll probably star Milla Jovovich but can he screw up it any more than the Weinstein's.
He'll make it a cheesy action horror series that's worse than the Resident Evil movies. His wife will be the strong female lead
