      Eric O. at South Main Auto is definitely up there. He is as good with cars as Alex is with electronics. Similar diagnostic approaches and similar results: Other shops sending work they cannot fix themselves.

    it's amazing all the progress you've made since you started uploading videos to youtube. The work you do is incredible. I am passionate about electronics. I am trying to set up my own workshop so that I can get out of this overwhelming job. things here in Uruguay are double or triple as expensive as in the USA. Trying to get all the tools here is an investment for 10 years or more. I am proud to watch your videos and see your progress on repairs.     Love this videos. If you have the time, can u tell me what the flux actually is? Is it some kind of chemical solutions that solder dont like? since the solder only hits the copper parts after applying flux?

      Flux is preventing the solder from oxidizing when heated, and it flows better. The whole board is covered with solder mask, except for the pads. This mask is what is preventing the solder from sticking to the board.

    You lost the chip, that's so bad... but you have a lot donor boards, If I happened with me I´d probably cried, kkkkkk!! Good repair

    How do you distinguish leaded from unleaded solder on the board?

      Manufacturers only use unleaded solder due to laws

      @@Gianluxx IF you were soldering a water pipe, then you have to use unleaded solder.
      But, electronics can use the leaded type as you're not going to be licking it.
      HA! Just kidding. But, electronics get a better connection using the lead type also.

    Pretty shady of another shop to do that, but it does seem like the only way that chip could have been removed. Great repair!
    Also, I'd like to find the ninth dimension you speak of. I'm guessing there's a lot of parts there lol
