How Did you get a 200k package straight out of college? What internships did you do? What university did you attend? What other things did you do?What languages are best to know right now? This is addressed to joshbtw Also Katie is so cuteeeeeeeeeee Josh is lucky
I work for Stanford in the physician billing office and THANKFULLY we were already working on a plan to go remote when COVID hit. Unfortunately we were only about a year into this 3 year plan. We ended up going mostly fully remote in two weeks. Right now we all go in 1 day per week but those days are staggered so only 1/5th of us are in the office at a time. It was harder for us because we have HIPAA federal privacy laws we have to comply with and we aren't fully paperless yet so there has to be days in office. My husband works for nVidia in technical marketing and except to go in and pick up or drop off hardware, he's been home since COVID hit. It's been a weird adjustment and definitely has good and bad aspects. For us I already know we will be full time at home because we were already working towards that. For him, it's so much more convenient to be in the lab where they can all share hardware for testing as needed but they made it work well enough that I think at the end of this, he'll be home more days per week than he is on campus.
As a software engineer who works for Amazon in “Silicon Beach” I would recommend checking out and staying in Playa Vista because it’s a super nice community. I am personally quarantining there myself. It may be pricier than other areas in West LA but it’s worth the price and right next to Google and Facebook offices! It’s also a short drive away from Culver City where there are other startups as well as Amazon. I don’t recommend living in Santa Monica although it is a classic city and likely the first place you’ll look. It’s expensive and not as nice of a living environment. It’s a great place to go hangout such as going to the promenade or the beach and has some good tech companies in the area like Snapchat. However, as somewhere you’ll be quarantining I think you’d like a more peaceful, safer, and nicer community like Playa Vista.
You guys should visit the DC/Northern Virginia (Fairfax county) area. We have tons of headquarters based in the area. Capital One being one of the more popular ones. Even though they aren’t a tech company, they do great work in tech. We also have branch offices of Google, Twitter, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. with a mix of tech startups.
Honestly , seeing techies leave the Bay Area I think will be a good thing overall. The culture in SF has become so stale. Additionally, seeing as though the tech industry contributes so strongly to gentrification especially in SF and Oakland and how it’s driven out so many of the natives (who not surprisingly are Black and Latino). Although it is sad to see how disposable many techies, obviously not from the Bay, view the area.
Definitely an incredible journey!!! It's gonna be fun to explore different city combining with remote work life style, plz take care and I can't wait to see more sharing about your adventure!
Just got an Amazon return offer from my internship, and I’m gonna move to Seattle right after I graduate at end of this year. Looking forward to watch your Seattle trip video!
Long time viewer, first time commenter here. Thanks Kaite and Josh always reply as many comments as you can. Very excited to hear your journey. I'm rooting for you. (No backlashes at home). I'm glad that you guys are experimenting to live in different tech hubs, and talking us along your journey. This is going to be fun. I currently work in tech in NYC, always wanted to work in the Bay area. I will probably re-access in next March, whether if I can keep working remote, or have to relocate closer. (Even if I can work remote, 3-hour time zone difference can be a thing for me....) Wish that NYC can be called "Silicon Empire", since NY is the Empire State and with the Building. Please stay safe. Looking forward to your new series.

Hi guys! My hubby and I love your channel and we’re excited to hear about all your upcoming adventures. We are originally from California but have been living in Hawaii, on Oahu, for the past 10 years. Not sure which island you’re planning on coming to, but just to give you a heads up, Our COVID cases are pretty bad right now and we’re on lockdown for the next 2 weeks. All beaches and hiking are closed until October 1st. Currently visitors and returning locals have to quarantine for 14 days at least until October 1st, and they keep extending it. Hopefully quarantine will be lifted by November but if not you may be spending half of your month in quarantine. Just check into it before you come. Hope you enjoy your travels!
Yessss you guys should definitely add silicon hills to your list! It’s an amazing place, affordable rent and it has a lot of really good companies! You should also definitely do the cost of living comparisons for the places you plan to go to and how they pay compared to sf and Silicon Valley!
Josh and Katie I’m not sure if you guys might have the info but you should totally compare the cost of living and the salary of Austin and sf! And you also should mention the companies that are in the area like Google, Apple etc...
Cool idea! I just moved from Silicon Desert to Silicon Forest. Happy to provide tips on either. Definitely go to the Desert during March, absolute best month to live there.

I am not sure if it is worth moving to L.A. for a major gaming company. Any thoughts? I live on the east coast right now and wonder if requesting to work remotely would be frowned upon.
If you love your life on the east coast, I’d ask for remote. Almost everyone is preparing for a more remote work force post covid, so it is expected. California is all still remote, so you could also start and just ask to continue working remote once offices open up hopefully next summer (knock on wood.)

How this high benefits companies manage to keep their employees remote. They setup an organisation to deliver breakfast and buffet at home, coffee machine, billiards, remote control baby-foot ...
No... Simple answer. To put this in context, the janitors and people tell tokens at subway stations were easily pulling 100K a year + full benefits. If you try to make do with $75K, you will hate the experience very shortly.

Hey I had a few questions i needed help with... I am persuing my MS from an India Uni. I have Comptia A+, Network+ and Security+ certifications and also good at programming languages like Python,C++ and average at HTML,PHP,SQL and Java. I do not have any intern experience but have conducted coding classes and webminars for middle school and highschool students. What are my odds of getting a job at SF bay Twitter? How about After i complete a 6m internship with TCS (India)? If the answer is Yes please make a guiding video on how to apply at SF bay twitter and the possible posts I or anyone with these qualifications could get in the next 5 years or remote. Thanks a lot 😊💥.
Aloha from Hawaii! I moved out here last year as my boyfriend got a job at one of the observatories on the Big Island. There isn't much of a tech industry here besides the astronomical observatories and the military and government jobs... but it's still worth a visit if you can work remotely.
@@JoshandKatie I worked in IT for a company in the transportation industry, and was able to keep working that job remotely before being laid off in March. I just finished a BS in computer science though so I'm looking for web or software development jobs while working on a side project for now.
Sorry but I find open office one of the worst concepts, makes it easy for distractions. I'd rather old school cubicles and seperate collaboration areas.
Any suggestions for our new Silicon Valley Knockoff series?
Come to Huntsville AL! Tech hub of the south east! NASA, FBI, Blue Origin, Boeing just to name a few all have offices here.

You need not be nervous 😂😂
Thanks!
You never know 😂😬😬
Hey Josh, you look like Andrew Garfield.
Andrew Garfield looks like me.
@@JoshandKatie haha yup, can't disagree
Imagine making six figures remotely working for a big company while living in a low-cost city.
It’s been pretty sick 😝
Thats our dream too! We are still trying to figure out how to stay with family and also move to areas where our quality of life would be better.
Gotta get me degree in nursing ASAP. I’m tryna make 6figsssss
Almost like being a Digital Nomad. Jealous!
Seize the opportunity while we can. We’ll be back in the Bay Area soon enough
Come to Ukraine (jk but actually Ukraine is really big for IT)
Yes please. Ukraine 🇺🇦 🙌
Aloha from Hawaii! I moved out here last year as my boyfriend got a job at one of the observatories on the Big Island. There isn't much of a tech industry here besides the astronomical observatories and the military and government jobs... but it's still worth a visit if you can work remotely.
👋👋👋 did you work in tech prior to moving out there?
@@JoshandKatie I worked in IT for a company in the transportation industry, and was able to keep working that job remotely before being laid off in March. I just finished a BS in computer science though so I'm looking for web or software development jobs while working on a side project for now.
Sorry but I find open office one of the worst concepts, makes it easy for distractions. I'd rather old school cubicles and seperate collaboration areas.
we've never had cubicle life so no preference
