I'm trying to buy one now that they support airplay 2! You can connect it to something like an old speaker or record player set up to make it homekit and airplay enabled!
Man oh man! Nobody on youtube gives so much info on products as you! I really can see how this works before I buy it. Most of the 'tech reviewers' just unbox new stuff and say there 'will be' a review later. You're the best!
@@isaiasmondragon9473 I still don't get what it's for. And the guy even told me it was an Apple TV. I still feel scammed cause this just feels like a giant paper weight.
im a little confused on the purpose of the device. I have been led to believe that this can be plugged in with just a power cord anywhere and allow internet connection. Is this true? Or do you have to have another router to access internet. I had thought that i could plug it into the wall and be on the internet.
This device isn't able to take Internet wherever you go that is absolutely 100% a misconception about this device. Although with this device can do is they can replace existing router or it can extend the range of that existing router or a can connect to another existing Apple airport!
The Airport Express can extend your network to improve signal strength it can not however improve speed. The theoretical speed the DHCP/NAT would provide at that range is what you will get even with the express as an extender.
The comment is 3 years old but for people like me who still want to buy one of the airport express stuff. Without the airport express we have 50k speed with the airport express as an extender via LAN cable the wifi speed is just 5 to 7k. So mostly useless. =(
My dad had been looking at ways to wirelessly broadcast his music from his iPhone to the audio system in his new office. I think I might get a couple of these and run them off my new Airport Time Capsule. I find Apple products such as the computers SO much better. I'm never gonna go back to Microsoft.
Actually you don't need to buy ideas to connect audio you can either get the Google Chrome audio cast or you can even opt for AppleTV is Apple TVs are cheaper and have much of the same connectivity when it comes to audio and even video!
They are so adorable! Lol I like how the apple tv and this both look exactly the same! they would look perfect next to each other on my entertainment center
Dude I love your channel, you have a new subscriber! I've been seeing my airport express blinking yellow for over a year and it was green when I first got it and set it up, but since the internet was never down I didn't worry about it. You mentioned Airport Utility in this vid so I used it and there was firmware I needed to update my Airport Express with and now it's back to green again! Thanks a Million!
No, works with all Wifi devices that can connect to it or the router it is connected it. The application being used on the device then needs to support AirPlay. All iPhones and iPads all have that integrated already, but not all Mac and PC programs do. You'd need to check for those.
great video ! I am sold on getting an apple express as I need to extend the range of my wireless network to the garage :) super cool to see it being set up on an iPad.
it does simply make you be able to connect to your internet wirelessly or if your internet is wireless then you can make you be able to get on it from a further distance. if you do not have a wireless printer, it can make it wireless. and you can connect to your speakers with airplay (if you dont know what airplay is, google it)
No. There's a variety of ways to do it. If you have an apple device as the first "router" in your home, you can extend with other apple products. In other words, if a time capsule or an airport extreme are the first, you can use these other gadgets to extend. If you're not using one of those first, you can look into other methods. Please note: there is a difference between extending a network and making one stronger. It's important that you do it right.
I have a question for you. I current have my AirPort express plugged into the WAN port, I have a cable going from the Airport to a switch, from the Switch it plugs into my router. My SSID broadcast is turned off on my router. The Airport is set to extend my wireless network. But I don't know if it's work or even how to set it up the right way. Could you please explain to me how to extend my Wireless network even with the SSID broadcast turned off?
Basically, you plug everything into the airport and it makes them all wireless. So you can create your own wireless connection for your computer to use the internet, you can have a sound system or printer on the other end of the room without cables all over. The higher end also work as a back up HDD and instead of doing regular backups, they constantly are backing up everything you do to protect all files from a computer crash at any second.
So rather than ADDING TO existing network and dedicating to my stereo, I simply have to EXTEND off the existing home wifi and just plug in my stereo? neat. Great video
no. though there may be a way for you to "strengthen" your home network with one. an apple representative recently told me that you could take one of these and set it up twenty feet away from your pre-existing router, hard wire the internet connection, and set it up to have the same wifi name and password as your pre-existing network. He said the 20 feet was necessary to avoid interference. I didn't try it and he did make a few mistakes in his statements about the express...
I like the previous generation Airport Express more. It's more portable. And as it plugs right in to the socket, we don't have to worry about the power cable.
The most basic information you need to know is that this device can be either your wireless router or a wifi signal extender. In the first case you can plug a ethernet cable coming from your modem into this device and create a wireless network. In the second case you can setup this device to pick up your existing wii signal and extended it. Also this device have a usb port which allows you to connect a printer and a audio jack which allows you to you to play music from iOS devices and Macs
I highly recommend this. Our church recently got one and we have cement walls. It reaches full strength downstairs when the airport is on the third floor. Great range!
hands down .. you have THE BEST apple and product review videos that I have seen on youtube as of yet .. not too long and not too short and to the point .. perfect
Thank you for this rather excellent and very high quality gadget review! I'm most likely to get one as I just love the design and is completely perfect for our use as a main router. Hooking up a 1000mbit switch and our ISPs dsl modem. With dual band wifi - just perfect! ;)
Yes your computer needs to be connected to the internet wirelessly via the airport express. Make sure the speakers are plugged into ur airport express then connect it up via itunes. Find something called AirTunes and it should be working
No wires needed. Put the program airport utility on your mac. It may already be there (my initial setup was from PC so my explanation may be a hair different). Disconnect Mac from your wifi (may not be necessary on Mac). Connect to the new wifi signal that your newly plugged in express has created. (may not be necessary on mac). Now open airport utility. Click on the new device and follow the setup. When all's set up, everything will connect to the original router's wifi.
Sonny Auty well one, the WiFi router couldn’t even cover the w tire house, and literally after a year of having it, Apple discontinued the program, which made it worde
I still use the first generation but the wifi speed is horrible. I bought the second generation on eBay lol as an range extender for our media room =D I refuse to use something else which is not from Apple.
I have one and its good for apple devices but for other things like Sony (PS3-PS4) etc… its awfull I mean I have 6mb and its ok but it feals like I have 0.5mb… Is there a probleme or something??
Actually I find that the USB ports parts for a wide range of devices I've used it as a wired connection for my iPad I've even used it to set up storage devices!
No you can't! It only supports a printer. If you want to hook up an external HD then you have to go with the airport extreme which supports both printers and ext. HD
Hey, maybe in the future consider putting Spanish subtitles to your videos, I love your videos but do not quite understand. (I wrote this using the google translator)
those are 2 completely different devices. Apple tv is a media streamer. airport only streams audio and is a router. The airport's downside is there is no screen and the speakers must be connected to the router... pretty unhandy. i love the apple tv 3 though! its really good
You can only extend other AirPort devices, so if your current wireless device is a Time Capsule, Extreme or Express you select 'extend a wireless network' during setup of the Express.
I think I'm gonna buy one as a repeater... So I can extend my signal around the house better. My only question is if you do that, do you have to switch over networks from the Airport Extreme to the Airport Express, or is it all one seamless network, if setup like I said.
Mike, thank you so much for your extremely thorough and. Very informative video about the airport express. I learned so much more from your video then I did at both the Apple store as well as Best Buy. I also very much appreciated the link that you had below this video that said compare models! I purchased the airport express, but after going to be compare models page I realized that I need the AirPort Extreme, Due to the size of our home.
There's a program named Airfoil which can solve this problem for you. Also, airplay mirroring is available on Mountain Lion now. Hold the option button and click on the audio icon at the top of the screen. Choose your airport express and enjoy.
No time capsule necessary. The airport extreme is supposedly a more functional router- more features, including the ability to connect a usb hard drive.
Great review! I've been thinking about getting one of these and your review was so thorough and well done that I have all the information I need to make my decision. Oh, and that decision is a "Buy" :)

I found this in a drawer and trying to figure out what it does lol
