I would undoubtedly be all in if a new AirPort Time Capsule came out. I had one, loved it and was so sad when it was discontinued. Bring it back. And the sooner the better. 👍
I have an AirPort Time Capsule & AirPort Extreme - it’s fast on WiFi - 1300Mbps more than you need! I have 1000/400Mbps and works perfectly. I use Ethernet for other applications no issues!
I completely agree with you! About a year ago I got the latest airport time Capsule and it does what a back up should do, which is just get on with it and I forget that it’s happening
Amazing video - can you share the URL link to the landing page you were showing in your video? I can't the URL landing page for AirPort Wireless Routers
Apple needs ASAP bring back routers products! Every home needs one! and please WIFi 7 enabled, Mesh networking, Matter, everything! Andrew, please do more videos about networking! We all need Networking!
I still use AirPort Express (the set-up software is still built into iOS) and to this day they still work great. I don’t understand why Apple ever left the market, love to see them return to it.
I'm still using my 3 TB Apple Time Machine as a WiFi router...and use a 5 TB Seagate external hard drive attached to my 2017-era iMac that I bought in early 2019. I've been researching routers lately, and would love to see a new Apple router/Time Machine...it will "just work" without the drama associated configuring current routers to a Mac home network...
I’m desperate for something like this. Currently I have a Google nest Wi-Fi system, but it needs upgraded and I want to switch over to a fully apple smart home ecosystem but they just don’t offer what I’m looking for yet.
love my new TP-Link BEX75 6E Pro mesh router system but I still use an Airport Extreme Time Capsule (with Ethernet connection) which I replaced the internal 2TB drive with a 6TB drive. Still the perfect Network storage drive solution for Mac and Time Machine.
I’d buy one in a heartbeat. Used my AP Extreme for years after being discontinued and finally upgraded to the top of the line Orbi 6e router/mesh nodes. It cost $1,500 and has been a terrible experience. Bandwidth tests look great but real world I see very little improvement. I’ve always thought getting out of the home router market was short sighted. Come on Tim! Jump back in with Wi-Fi 7!
A little off-topic but what I would really like to see from Apple is a HomePod compatible sound bar with an Apple TV baked in. You could pair it with a couple HomePods and have a really nice setup.
7:07 I want to see Thread/Matter, built in HomePod functionality, WiFi 6E at least, mesh obviously, and a dedicated app that has full admin functionality for parental controls. Something like Plume has. In fact - they could work with Plume. That would be fantastic.
Not sure what you mean about Time Machine. I TM backup my laptops wirelessly to a big USB drive connected to an old mac mini. If the mini is sleeping, my AppleTV automagically wakes it via Bonjour Sleep Proxy. AFAIK, most home NAS products support Time Machine as well.
- Apple already including a thread radio on M3, M4 devices. Same like how silently they included hardware(Bluetooth in iPod touch, UWB in iPhone 11, Temperature and Humidity Sensor in HomePod mini ) and flipped the switch when they can make a great feature with the technology. - Apple working on “connectivity” in general according to the interview- Johnny sruoji (WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular, Satellite) - Apple part of some mesh standard meetings All these leading that something is cooking up. It’s just about the time I guess.
We’ve known about the Thread radios for a while. I know Marques just did stuff on it but they’ve been known entities. I always found it odd they enable it on iPhone but not on the iPads yet!
I'm still using my 3 TB Apple TimeCapsule that I bought back in 2017 as a wireless router, with an Arris Surfboard cable modem and my mid-2017 build 21.5" iMac. I live in a 1-bedroom apartment all on one floor, so I don't need a mesh network; I use all my Apple products at my desk, which is 6 feet from the TimeCapsule router and cable modem. Although I've been looking at a new router and cable modem to go with a new iMac G4 I'm waiting to have delivered, I'd much prefer to buy a current Apple wireless router when Apple gets their ducks in a row and brings it out!
I’m still using my Extremes. They are still excellent devices and the safest ones around. I would definitely replace them with new Apple routers if Apple decided to make them. But I think that Apple doesn’t want to have a line of products that doesn’t sell in massive numbers. I also think that’s a mistake.
I'd buy an Apple router in a second. I've held on to my Time Capsule and other equipment because it just works better. I've already gotten a Amazon speaker but finding a way to integrate it into an Apple ecosystem would be nice.
I love the coverage that our TP-Link Deco Mesh gives our large two story household (kids love the full speed streaming out on the pool lounge) but the functionality could be better and the full parental controls requires a paid subscription which makes me angry. I would have paid good $$ for a full spec Apple Mesh. Oh and I’ve got two Apple TVs sitting in a draw because modern smart TV has that built in
I agree with other comments. UniFi is the new Apple of routers. Dream Router for most homes and Dream Machine Pro for the geeks prosumers and small businesses/home offices plus U7 Pro APs. As someone said. That ship has sailed. When it comes to easy setup, UniFi has it via Bluetooth le and a smartphone exactly as you describe it but way more powerful features and PoE built in. An it has Apple design language and packaging too
I’d love to see a new generation Airport Time Capsule with built in backup using those tiny NVMe drives, with Time Capsule drives starting from 4TB, and all about the size of a box of matches. I’m not holding my breath.
I think apple should compete with ubiquiti. Put those Mac OS X Server folks back to work and create a line of home networking, security, and automation devices that work on all platforms.
I agree, but Apple doesn't seem to have any permanent staff to handle this for 5-8 years, so seems unlikely. I still have my airport time capsule but it doesn't seem to get updates.
Yes, I think Apple should bring back the airport time capsule which was one of the best home networking devices out there. Since they have there paid cloud service they would never bring it back.
The problem with apple and the router market is that apple would have to account for third party compatibility. I think apples decision to withdraw was that they would have comprimize security. Apple could re-enter if consumers were accepting of an apple compatible only network.
The reasons you gave add to the reasons why Apple should BRING BACK the AirPort line Integrating services such as iCloud+ and local HomeKit Secure Video would make it a beast Not just on the AirPort Time Capsule but for backup and HomeKit secure video but even if they BRING BACK the AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme integration of Screen Time and other parental controls at the router level would be easier to set across all your devices whether they're Apple devices android devices or Windows devices If you really want to do parental controls honestly you should set them up LOCALLY on EACH device through the content and privacy restrictions ON EACH DEVICE BUT ALSO set them up on your potential new AirPort routers and yes I would buy a new AirPort Time Capsule with a 4TB-8TB SSD Apple STILL HAS their AirPort Utility app on the App Store
so apple can sell a multiple per home like the homepods : wifi 7 mesh + matter + 4X2.5g & 1X10g nics + 8 nvme ports + 2 usb4/tb5/displayport + hdmi 2.1 + power by a usb c port + apple tv + homepod speaker - call it the appleTVHomePODTimeCapsule or Apple TV HoPoTiCa !!!!! - actually still using my TC 4th as a small switch and had an idea to mod it with some small nas board - born out of running jellyfin off of my atari onyx800 lol
A new set of airports, expresses, and time machines with mesh and wifi7? Well…. I’d immediately upgrade my set. I’ll need 4 of each. Apple - you listening?
No, I don’t want wireless mesh points. I have ethernet throughout my whole home. I’m already not thrilled about the large HomePod not having an RJ-45 or USB-C port for restoring.
The issue is that Apple would need to make them with the latest WiFi standard to keep them relevant but Apple always lags the industry in putting the latest WiFi in their products.
I agree that Apple should build its own routers. It is another case of Apple leaving money on the table. Apple made some fine routers but I suppose it wasn't profitable enough for them to continue. It's possible that those routers lasted too long and Apple couldn't get that quick recurring revenue. With Apple, everything revolves around profitability. What a pity.
It must be really slow for content if this is considered a good video topic. A new Time Capsule is not necessary/needed. It doesn't bring anything new or unique to the table and doesn't satisfy a need. Wireless backup has never worked well and is not practical in use because it's not fast and was unreliable. Time Machine is still a good first party solution even if you have to BYOD. The only update that would be nice would be an AirPort Express updated to be a mesh router.
@@AppleInsider they can all be wrong too. And you are, just like you were wrong about the M4 coming out earlier than the end of this year. When's the video about how Apple should make printers again 🤣
@@techguypaul Their printer didn't offer anything unique. Routers have lots of problems right now and Apple can solve almost all of them. Printers, they just suck in general.
@@AppleInsider now you're just creating issues where none really exist, spouting nonsense like always 🤣 There's nothing for Apple to "solve" here, exactly like printers.
Will **NEVER** happen ... because it's not a core competency for Apple and the mesh/router/firewall industry is commoditized. This is same exact reason that Apple never launched an actual TV product (vs. set top box).
Apple is incapable of creating a new router. Apple does not own the technologies of Airport Time Capsule which I upgraded the HDD to 18 GB yeArs ago. It’s working fine.
Ayo you gotta be smoking some sort of crack if you think people want subscriptions for their router 💀🤡 I use iCloud+ for Hide-My-Email, but in no way should that be tied into a router...
You're telling me that if Apple added more features to a subscription you already have you wouldn't be happy about it? No one is saying buy iCloud+ because of your router but it absolutely could add even more value and give you a reason to buy an Apple router versus third-party ones. Not to mention, basically every router company already offers subscriptions for their routers.
Ubiquiti is the modern AirPort. Ubiquiti is run by former Apple Employees.
Couldn’t agree more, the dream machine is fantastic.
I would undoubtedly be all in if a new AirPort Time Capsule came out. I had one, loved it and was so sad when it was discontinued. Bring it back. And the sooner the better. 👍
Dearly hanging on to my AirPort Extreme and would love new options from Apple.
I bought a new airport extreme in 2008, still using it today 😎
how’s to speed and performance, I wonder
I have an AirPort Time Capsule & AirPort Extreme - it’s fast on WiFi - 1300Mbps more than you need! I have 1000/400Mbps and works perfectly. I use Ethernet for other applications no issues!

I'd buy one if they ever did this. My AE AC is getting old and it can feel it on the verge of catching fire when I really push it.
The Apple wifi router was unbeatable. I almost forgot where mine was in the house because for years it JUST WORKED ALL THE TIME.
Amazing video - can you share the URL link to the landing page you were showing in your video? I can't the URL landing page for AirPort Wireless Routers

1:03 they could make their WiFi Mesh units double as HomePods, and thread radios and they can create Dolby Atmos sound!

Apple have to be included too a hub for all HomeKit devices like Amazon hub
They should. And they should also bring AirPort Time Capsule back!
I’d get one. I still use my AirPort Extreme when I need to get an older Mac online!

The idea of HomePods and TV containing mesh tech, but not much use for the many of us who have all our Apple devices in the same room.

It’s the Ubiquiti U7 Pro Max
If it wasn’t for the Apple Airport router, we wouldn’t have Wi-Fi. I do hope Apple brings back its router with Apple Intelligence and Time Machine.

Not just on the AirPort Time Capsule but for backup and HomeKit secure video but even if they BRING BACK the AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme integration of Screen Time and other parental controls at the router level would be easier to set across all your devices whether they're Apple devices android devices or Windows devices
If you really want to do parental controls honestly you should set them up LOCALLY on EACH device through the content and privacy restrictions ON EACH DEVICE BUT ALSO set them up on your potential new AirPort routers and yes I would buy a new AirPort Time Capsule with a 4TB-8TB SSD
