    EXCELLENT Im glad i found this video, Ive been using Apple Extremes since 2012 when they released the 5th version of it, I have a larger sized home so I have 4 Airport extremes hard wired throughout my home and one other extreme on my patio thats not hard wired, Ive picked these up over the years through craigslist and ebay for lest than $50 each and you cant step foot on my property without getting ridiculously fast internet signals, these things are old but my goodness they still work great, plus when all the new extenders are all wireless these still give you the ability to connect hardwired, great to see others are still using these too.

      Glad to know they've been working great for others for so long too - they're truly some of the most underrated router systems!

    I have two AirPort Express units in a “mesh” one on the ground floor and one on the first floor, both connected with Ethernet. The Wi-Fi isn’t the best you can get these days, but for a decade old Wi-Fi router it works surprisingly well to this day.

    Man you guys are wild for using outdated routers. That's asking to become part of a botnet. Should consider flashing OpenWRT on a cheap router and using the apple as an access point.

    I have a bunch of these and where I currently live a single AirPort Extreme 802.11ac covers the entire house easily. They are absolutely fantastic. They are the best HomeKit router I have ever used for stability.

    I was just watching some random tech videos and yours played next. I thought I was watching another tech RUclipsr as I looked for another tech review of yours and upon further checking I found out that you just started few months ago. haha. I must say the production definitely serve!
    Anyway, the Apple AirPort Extreme is definitely reliable, never experienced any issues with mine and it’s my main router. I’m also looking to add another one. Easy to set up and it syncs across to your Apple devices and can be easily configured when needed.
    Looking forward to your upcoming vids! Keep it up! +1 Subscriber! 😊

      Thank you so much! I’m still learning a lot about the video production process, but I have a lot of ideas and there’s more to come soon!
      Definitely grab another one if you can find it for cheap, it was seriously so easy to add a second one to extend my network. I set it up right from my iPad too!

    i love that you added how apple basically created the consumer wifi market as we know it now, as a lot of people don’t realize it. generally all there was before them was clunky and expensive commercial options. very great video! I use the last gen time capsules for my main mesh network and use an older 2nd gen thats firewalled but connected to the main network and allows older computers to connect without much worry of hackers or whatever.

    What is unclear to me is do you need to connect ethernet wire to a modem to make it work or can it work wirelessly?

    • @spencereeves
      @spencereeves  29 дней назад +1

      Yes, it needs to be wired to a modem to access and broadcast the internet. Extenders can be hardwired to ethernet as well, but can also connect to the main Airport router wirelessly.

    • @davidsimeone
      @davidsimeone 2 месяца назад +2

      i’ve found that there’s some sort of failure rate with these, which i believe to be related to too much heat and not enough airflow, thanks to apple design. yours has probably succumbed to this, would be worth trying another one if you can find it cheap, out of the 4 i have only 2 seem to work properly.
