We call that "bunch" in my native language, however, I couldn't find the correct word in English. Is there any particular definition? 2.) I am trying to make an excel table, where I have limited space in the cells, therefore I have to use the shortest (and correct) phrases and words. I want to speak about the molten metal weight in the ladle, can I say "ladle melt weight"?
Excellent explanation, thank you. However you do not mention ventilation holes. In your diagram the metal fills the mould cavity from below which would pressurise the air above. Is it assumed that this air will vent through the packed sand? Sorry if this obvious to everyone else but I’m a real beginner here!
You are right! Vent holes are usually provided to allow the hot gases to flow out easily. Though some portion of the gases flow out through the sand particles, but additional vent holes are also required. Infact improper ventilation causes many defects in the casting
There are multiple reasons behind formation of blowholes...most prominent factors are improper ventilation and faulty gating system. So check if these two parameters are okay. Also any source of gas entrapment can cause blowholes.
