@@erikvaldur3334 I don't think he ever sang in Rainbow. But if you have any links that shows that, please share it. I checked the sites listing all the bandmembers over time in Rainbow, and I didn't find his name.
@ yeah, I think you're right. I was thinking of someone else. Something Bonnet I was picturing. A "not very well known name" but good vocalist. I'm picturing a CD where there were songs from I think 3 different vocalists on the CD. Not sure why I thought it was Jeff.
The first the metal world heard Yngwie Malmsteen was in 1983. Newly arrived in America, he played on the one and only album from the band "Steeler" fronted by singer Ron Keel. Any and all metal heads and metal musicians were completely blown away by this guy. We had heard nothing like him before. He went on to join Alcatrazz who was fronted by Grahm Bonnet of "Rainbow" fame. Yngwie was the first truly neo-classical shredder. I was in a touring band in the 80's and was deep in the metal scene. There was definitely nobody like him. Most of rock and metal guitar playing was blues based, like what was being played in the 70s by guys like Richie Blackmore and Tony Iommi. Yngwie is proof that the classical masters would have all been metalheads if they lived during our time period. There have been many imitators since Yngwie splashed onto the scene. He is truly the master. I got to see him up close when Alcatrzz played at a local nightclub where I lived. Two things I learned that night. First was that Yngwie had no comparable guitar player in the world at that time, and the second thing I learned is that Grahm Bonnett does not need a damn microphone...good god that guys sings loud!!
As a Swede I am so proud of this gang!! All the musicians were swedish but the singer american/puertorican. It was Yngwie´s band and he was the star and quite rightly so. The drummer Anders Johansson and keyboardplayer Jens johannsson are brothers and their father Jan Johansson was a legendary jazz pianist. Yngwie played like this even a few years earlier in his teens, there is a video from when he was just 18, so he was an ackomplished player early on and although he borrowed quite a lot from players like Ritchie Blackmore, Yngwie took it much further at least when it comes to speed and certainly was one of the players that were early with playing that fast, i had never heard anything like it before when i heard him first here in Sweden in the mid 80´s.

What could be the most amazing thing about Yngwie is that he was truly a Wunderkind, as even years before this recording he was a fully-formed artist and live performer. The idea of shredding goes back quite a bit earlier. I believe it originated with "Surf Music" in the early 60's. The genre often featured guitar-heavy instrumentals that were pretty technical by the standards of the day. In surfing, "shredding" refers to riding a wave in a skillful, flashy, and dynamic manner. When a surfer is shredding, they're performing impressive maneuvers, such as sharp turns and aerial tricks, that create a lot of spray and excitement. It's all about showcasing control, style, and confidence on the wave. The term "shredding" crossed over from surfing to guitar playing to denote a flamboyant technical performance (e.g. artists like Dick Dale).
Bass player is the late Marcel Jacob .. he was a great bassist who also started Talisman with Heff Scott Soto when he left Malmsteen.and the Keyboardist is Jens Johannson he is the brother of Anders Johanson the drummer bith are awesome also
Great reaction! Andrew, you have to react, analyze "Icarus' Dream Suite Op. 4" (studio version), a masterful song from the first album, a stunning masterpiece, by Yngwie Malmsteen, "Rising Force", from 1984... I suggest with the same "enthusiasm" two other exceptional songs from Malmsteen's second album, "Marching Out" (1985): "Disciples of Hell" and "Soldier Without Faith", both studio versions...I also suggest another song by Malmsteen, another masterpiece, "Trilogy Suite Op:5" (studio version), from the album "Trilogy" (1986)...And yet another song, another masterpiece, by Malmsteen, "Krakatau", studio version, from the album "Odyssey" (1988)... I even had the privilege of seeing a live Malmsteen show in July 1988, in New York City: setlist with many songs from the two best albums, the first two , "Rising Force" and "Marching Out"...Unforgettable...Greetings from Brazil!!!
I love Yngwie's old music and he is actually play there. He could have a huge fan base if he wasn't such an A whole. He can't sing and these days he doesn't play the music that he recorded. He just shows off. He has good music and good song if only he would play the music instead of showing off.
Eddie Van Halen was the one coined with the term of guitar shredder. Yngwie Malmsteen came later and just used his love of classical music and shred it rock style on guitar. Yngwie really did not influence many guitarists and did not pave the way for shredding guitar. Yngwie has a great, unique approach to playing guitar, but he is never mentioned as an inspirational guitar shredder amongst all the other shredding guitar players. The number one shredding guitarist mentioned as a big influence is Eddie Van Halen.
Jeff Scott Soto is, along with Ronnie James Dio and Geoff Tate, my favorite singers. It really doesn't surprise me that you don't know about JSS, despite being one of the most respected vocalists in the rock/metal scene since the mid-80s... in fact for a brief period of time JSS was the vocalist for Journey. PS I would never have believed that a tiger-print top would amaze a musician originating from the same land where such virile artists as the Bee Gees and Air Supply come from.😆
I got to see Jeff when he was singing with Trans-Siberian Orchestra a few years back. OMG that dude can still shatter crystal glass with that voice. I wish he would get back with YNGWIE and do a tour of all the early stuff.
I was 14 or 15 when I heared this for the first time. My face must have been like yours on this video. I was living with my mother, and there was no way, no means to share with her, or anyone what I had experienced. But remember, our independent music taste is often formed in that age. Few musical works, live or recordings, have ever affected like "I Am a Viking". I cannot say anything about the word "shredding". At that time, English was not heard in every corner in my home country. But we had an onomatopoetic word descriging Yngwie's playing. His name:.. English language dont have the vowel that is marked with Y in Swedish. His real name is Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck. Yngve is not that rare name in Sweden. Swedish is not my native language either, but as far as I know, pronouncing that Y differs a bit according to the dialect. (Native speakers, please, help as needed!) However, the pronounciation fell somewhere between I (ih) and U (you). Speaking English, I'd pronounce his name Ing-We. Malmsteen, malmsten, is something like gravel ore ore stone. So, the familyname will be have two wovels, A and E, like A in "shark" and and the long somewhat like in "bed". I don't know how he pronounces his name himself. However, Swedes have funny habit to sometimes emphasize to both syllables of the words having two syllables. So, the pronounciation: "ING-wi MAlmStEEn." Think, for example, like "Sleeping in shark beeeeeed."
The first bit he's playing was on his first album. It's the intro to Icarus Dream Suite Opus 4 He was probably a little bit older than 20 at that point..not much older 21-22 Soto had a brief stint with Journey
Some of his vocalists wrote some lyrics, the keyboard players helped with arrangements but yes he wrote all the songs. If you like big high powerful vocals check out his next vocalist Mark Boals. He’s worked with some great drummers too but as proven by his recent work, all he ever really wanted was a drum machine.
Yngwie is the man! But he’s been pretty lucky or talented in choosing his musicians! He was an amazing songwriter in his earlier years, which stretched for many years 😎
This performance is most lickly 85 in japan an malmsteen b4 he went solo was in 2 bands when he arrived in America first one being Steeler and then the band Akcatrazz an a good song by Alcatraz is Too Young too die too drunk to live where there is live portions an u believe a concert (video)from his Alcatraz days
Apologies for forgetting to list keys and bass … I discovered drummer Anders and Keyboardist Jens were brothers, and that sidetracked me lol. Bassist is Marcel Jacob. On a side note, I noticed the engineer is a guy named Lester Claypool. I thought HOLY CRAP, LES CLAYPOOL ENGINEERED Yngwie! Nope, Les is short for Leslie, not Lester. Lol
Dont stop reaction yngwie malmsteen because have many character vocalist in every album like jeff scot cotto, joe lynn turner and many other my recomended like an angels
Yngwie appeard on the scene in LA in the early 80´s at the same time as Eddie van Halen. His guitarplaying and techniqe was unprecedented. He is basically self taught and took alot of inspiration from his mothers records of Paganini and Bach in his late teens back in Stockholm, or actually Upplands Väsby where also Europe formed at the same time. Jens and Anders are increadibly talented musicians, sons of Jan Johansson, legendary Swedish jazz pianist. They played with Yngwie in the band Force in Sweden before he left for LA. After leaving Alcatrazz he brought them over to join his new band Rising Force. The incredible singer Jeff and bass player Marcel Jacob (also early Europe) later formed the band Talisman. Check them out too. Marcel left us to early due to psychological illnes. Im my opinion this line up is the best he ever had.
Great recommendation! 🤓👌🏼 I looked up Jeff Scott Soto, as his voice sounds phenomenal in this vid. 🤯 He currently sings for Sons of Apollo with Mike Portnoy, so I've just downloaded their first album to check out! Thanks very much. 🤘🏼😎
I was a true heavy metal fan on 80's in my early teens and Yngwie Malmsteen was defenitely a thing, but I still feel sorry for the drummers of that genre and era. Everything was so guitar and vocal driven, that the bass and the drums were just the wallpaper behind them. And the drum sounds. Well, those have improved since then. A lot.
Malmsteen was not the first to be given the title of a guitar shredder. It was actually Eddie Van Halen with Van Halen's first release in 1978. The song was Eruption. No one had ever played guitar like that before, and people started saying things like "that guy shreds" and "that Eddie is a shredder on guitar," hence the term guitar shredder.
Yknow, thats what I thought too, and I spent quite a while searching to find out who, specifically, was the first… and of course every answer went back centuries about shred technique, but the general consensus, in the few cases where someone actually said who was the first, for the first to be actually called “shredder” was Yngwie. Not arguing, I just dont remember Eddie being called that until later, then suddenly everyone was called shredder.
@@LionMetalMusic-videochannel For sure! Eddie pushed the boundaries by popularizing and introducing people to techniques theyd never heard, (though they werent new), and he was FAST, but Yngwie was just faster, and more blatantly classically influenced.
Yes, Yngwie was a shreader. But I think that term was around before that. I remember that Mike Varney basically had a whole stable of players that were considers "shreaders"; Racer X with Paul Gilbert, Cacophany with Marty Friedman and Jason Becker, and others that I don't remember. But I think Yngwie was in Alcatraz and Steeler before dropping Rising Force on us and blowing our minds. Other notables that I do remember are Vinnie Moore and Tony McAlpine that came out roughly around this time.
@@whamsie4022 You might be right. This was early to mid 80's if I remember right. Rising force came out when I was in high school and was my introduction to this form of guitar playing. I remember owning Minds Eye and Racer X, but I'm sure it was after Rising force.
Should check out Yngwie Malmsteen - Blue. It’s a bluesy feel but actually contains no blue chord progressions. I dunno how he does it but it’s pretty awesome. Also check out G3 concern 3 of the greats of guitar on one stage.
U ought to react to K517 be Tourniquet ,the Drummer Ted Kirkpatrick wrote majority of songs n lyrics .he is an awesome Drummer. Also check out Skeezik Dilemma 2 an The Harlot Widow and The Virgin Bride .that tune is dynamic an awesome. .positive metal band
You should definitely look up all of Jeff Scott Soto's vocal career... With Yngwie, even briefly with Journey, a mainstay with the Trans Siberian Orchestra and so much more!
Hey Andrew, so remember back when you did Austin Archey (Lorna Shore) and you wanted to see a live drum-cam of him? See if he could maintain that level of zen in a live setting? Well, he finally remembered his youtube password and posted a drum-cam of their hardest song on drums. Into The Earth, it's about 290 BPM. He plays it perfectly, and well.... I'm not gonna spoil anything about the zen, but I watched it twice, second time just watching his face. Also, as a bonus, there's a footcam in the corner of the video the whole time! He knows what the ladies like. Here's a link! ruclips.net/video/RT9rvvDlbtA/видео.htmlsi=014_hPuzR_oxn7Dc
Anders and Jens Anderson are brothers, Marcel Jacobs is bassist, Jeff Scott Soto sang for Journey for a while. Jens plays for Stratovarious now Yngwie early on wrote everything
The simple and a litle silly lyrics was written in rage (over something) when Yngwie in the moment felt to slay somebody down with a sword, wich he ofcource didn't do. Instead he let the rage'ist story be about a viking.
Love me some Yngwie - but honestly, on that specific recording, Jeff Scott Soto steals the show a bit (at least in my opinion) - he's one of my all-time favorite rock and metal singers. Apart from that, you obviously get a like for the 240 p-ness crackup after the first few seconds. Keep 'em coming. Also, I know I don't comment that regularly, mea culpa. But whenever I do, I need to remind you to react to Dimmu Borgir - The Chosen Legacy. As always, I shall not comment on why, because it'll spoil the fun, but it HAS to be the studio version with Jan Axel 'Hellhammer' Blomberg on the drums. If you don't get to it soon, I really think I gotta save up some moneys and sponsor a video :D
You called it perfectly as I started following Yngwie when he was recording with shrapnel records, all the way up until now, and yes, he is the supreme controller of all he does sometimes to the detriment of giving people something a little different. I am heavily influenced by him and his style. Many will argue that he is too one dimensional, but for what he does, there are none that come close to his feel and technique.

I really dig I am a viking and Disciple of hell, masterpieces amongst others
It’s a little odd hearing that intro without it going into Far Beyond the Sun
I love Yngwie's old music and he is actually play there. He could have a huge fan base if he wasn't such an A whole. He can't sing and these days he doesn't play the music that he recorded. He just shows off. He has good music and good song if only he would play the music instead of showing off.
Anders Johansson played in Hammerfall for several years…
Yngwie is literally the Elvis of Shred. He created an entire genre on to itself.
Yngwie paved the way for the shredding, influenced by classical music
Eddie Van Halen was the one coined with the term of guitar shredder. Yngwie Malmsteen came later and just used his love of classical music and shred it rock style on guitar. Yngwie really did not influence many guitarists and did not pave the way for shredding guitar. Yngwie has a great, unique approach to playing guitar, but he is never mentioned as an inspirational guitar shredder amongst all the other shredding guitar players. The number one shredding guitarist mentioned as a big influence is Eddie Van Halen.
He basically set the template for NeoClassical Metal
The neoclassical template was set by Ritchie Blackmore.
PS I would never have believed that a tiger-print top would amaze a musician originating from the same land where such virile artists as the Bee Gees and Air Supply come from.😆
Vocals are off the chain
I got to see Jeff when he was singing with Trans-Siberian Orchestra a few years back. OMG that dude can still shatter crystal glass with that voice. I wish he would get back with YNGWIE and do a tour of all the early stuff.
Yngwie is the G.O.A.T.
Malmsteen first 4 albums are all so good.
Thanks for the info!
The first bit he's playing was on his first album. It's the intro to Icarus Dream Suite Opus 4
He was probably a little bit older than 20 at that point..not much older 21-22
Soto had a brief stint with Journey
Some of his vocalists wrote some lyrics, the keyboard players helped with arrangements but yes he wrote all the songs. If you like big high powerful vocals check out his next vocalist Mark Boals. He’s worked with some great drummers too but as proven by his recent work, all he ever really wanted was a drum machine.
How 'bout them vocals by Jeff Scott Soto?
Bonkers
Jeff Scott Soto was in a band with Mike Portnoy "Son's of Appollo" Check em" out. Wither to Black, Asphyxiation, God of the Sun, all great songs.
Yngwie is the man! But he’s been pretty lucky or talented in choosing his musicians! He was an amazing songwriter in his earlier years, which stretched for many years 😎
Yeah this is impressive stuff!
My go-to Malmsteen track is Soldier Without Faith, epic solo, not just fast, EPIC
Yeah, the solo parts are simply amazing ⭐
Lol
Thanks for the additional info 🙏
Fun fact. Yngwie start first playing drums.
He is a good drummer
He was in Steeler first and then scared all the guitarist, a band with Ron Keel. A Great Album
Dont stop reaction yngwie malmsteen because have many character vocalist in every album like jeff scot cotto, joe lynn turner and many other my recomended like an angels
Jeff Scott Soto a Puertorican Viking 😊
Eddie was on the LA scene in the 70s.
Great recommendation!
🤓👌🏼
I looked up Jeff Scott Soto, as his voice sounds phenomenal in this vid.
🤯
He currently sings for Sons of Apollo with Mike Portnoy, so I've just downloaded their first album to check out!
Thanks very much.
🤘🏼😎
Yeah Yngwie is the star but God Damn Jeff Scott Soto is absolute🔥!
Hi, Andrew! Yngwie plays drums on some of his record himself, check out the interview with Rick Beato, I had a great time
I was a true heavy metal fan on 80's in my early teens and Yngwie Malmsteen was defenitely a thing, but I still feel sorry for the drummers of that genre and era. Everything was so guitar and vocal driven, that the bass and the drums were just the wallpaper behind them. And the drum sounds. Well, those have improved since then. A lot.
I saw Jeff Scott Soto singing in Yngwie's band and he was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The best singer Wing-Wang EVER had!
Yngwie is faster.
@@LionMetalMusic-videochannel For sure! Eddie pushed the boundaries by popularizing and introducing people to techniques theyd never heard, (though they werent new), and he was FAST, but Yngwie was just faster, and more blatantly classically influenced.
@@buzzbomb67let say like this, me never was capable listening to Ynwie more than one album, it's way too much solos for me 😅
@@LionMetalMusic-videochannel
Lmao I totally understand… ;). Its impressive but it gets tiresome
Varney did have that, but to my memory (without googling it, Yngwie and Steeler were first).
@@whamsie4022 You might be right. This was early to mid 80's if I remember right. Rising force came out when I was in high school and was my introduction to this form of guitar playing. I remember owning Minds Eye and Racer X, but I'm sure it was after Rising force.
Jeff Scott Soto recently sang with "Sons of Apollo"
Should check out Yngwie Malmsteen - Blue. It’s a bluesy feel but actually contains no blue chord progressions. I dunno how he does it but it’s pretty awesome. Also check out G3 concern 3 of the greats of guitar on one stage.
This is the best set up of this band.
Had this song as wake up song in 1985-89
It's a jacket with tails.
From the same album, Soldier Without Faith is the BANGER ON THE ALBUM, No one can play it like Yngwie
Thanks for the video! 🙏
Yup, he wrote em all.

MUST listen to Soldier Without Faith, nothing better
Jeff Scott Soto is one of the best and greatest rock vocalists imo.
Crazy good 🤯
Epic & powerful!!!!!
Yingwie is one of the real pioneer of the guitar. Respect.
Blackmore
Anders and Jens Anderson are brothers, Marcel Jacobs is bassist, Jeff Scott Soto sang for Journey for a while.
Jens plays for Stratovarious now
Yngwie early on wrote everything
If you are impressed by great singers live, then you should listen to Deep Purple's, Burn, from California Jam.
1985 that is.
The simple and a litle silly lyrics was written in rage (over something) when Yngwie in the moment felt to slay somebody down with a sword, wich he ofcource didn't do. Instead he let the rage'ist story be about a viking.
think this is from 1985 🤔
Back in the days when Yngwie let the rest of the band be a part of the show!
hey my noob , im subscribe from brazil, because this = real line
Yngwie Malmsteen Leonardo is another song with Badass vocals
He wrote the music n lyrics.
Check out echotude by yngwie!
Puerto Rican Jeff Scott Soto, one of the best vocalist!
King yngwie !
Over 14,000 fans
Please check out Marco minnemann new song "Poseidon " .recently posted on RUclips, just awsome
God almighty, this version of the band was mega. If only Yngwie wasn’t such an egomaniac
