      You can do these kind of makeovers, even if the usual products are expensive, there should always be an alternative that, with a little effort, can do the same thing. Also try not to set your expectations too high, even if it’s half as good as this, that is still a really good setup.

    For the pegboard led installation it would be easier and better to only loop the data wire from first to last and feed the power parallel down so that every strip is directly connected to the "3 port wago" at the beginning. this way the voltage wont drop along the way and make the brightness/colors fade.

    • @True_Muslim_Momin

    These are some great ideas. One thought though would have been for the lamp is to use a smart bulb and an optional smart button, and then just pull the chain, leave it on, and tuck it away. Set the button to control the bulb, and then mount the button on the lamp. Much less soldering required.

    • @ChrisMaherDIY

      Thanks so much for watching and glad you liked the projects! That's a really good idea! Anytime there is an option for less soldering, I'm a fan lol. I don't mind soldering and its easier than I initially thought but its still somewhat time consuming! Thanks for sharing the great idea!

      Would the smart bulb have the multi layer color thats shown in the clip? or the flame flicker effect? That might make the led strip option better.

    Mar the smooth metal surfaces with 220 grit sandpaper before you superglue. The scratches and grooves created give the superglue something to grab onto, increasing the lateral stress failure point. This trick helps with most glues or epoxy.

      Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! You for sure could use a light bulb and it would definitely be easier! The only thing you would lose is that gradient type effect that you get with strips since light bulbs (as far as i'm aware of) are still only to just display one color at a time.

    Chris, absolutely love this compilation of projects put together. I was so intrigued by the Corner led Pex project and decided to take it on myself! However I’m using some Govee h6125 16.4ft lights and am trying to figure out how I’d make the animations synced up on each side. Would I have to use two 16.4 ft strips with two separate controllers and power sources hooked up cut to length or is there anyway to do this with 1 16.4ft strip from Govee? Looks like I might have to step up my game and get into wLed. I only need about 11 ft of leds in total, two 5 foot 5 sections.

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching and thats awesome you tried it yourself! So if I were using Govee, and I wanted things to sync up, I would probably get one of their 32 foot lights (usually the 32 foot ones comes with two 16 foot rolls that do the exact same thing) In my experience with those strips, you can cut them and they will still work (you would lose a little bit of some animation features because the app would still think the entire strip is there and run the animation as if its going the entire 16 feet instead of the 5 feet you need.
      Now I have not tested this out but there is also a chance you could cut one 16 foot section down but then you would need to cut the cable after the controller, strip back the wires, split them so that the voltage, power, data can now be run to 2 strips and I think that would probably work as well.
      But in the end, for sure a great opportunity to explore the more DIY options with WLED. Once you figure it out, you just have so many more options as far as leds lights you can use, power option, length options, animations etc.

      Chris, thank you so much for the extensive reply back! I’ve ordered a few esp 8266 boards and flashed them with wled. Planned on running the set up you were running in the video but now I’m Intrigued to to run the Govee set up just to keep everything under one management software for that specific room. I’ll have to find another project to use the esp 8266 boards and the ws2812b lights.

    Hey Chris,
    Could you explain to me why you wouldn't recommend to use the silicon coated LEDS for the stand up lighting? Is this due to heat or diffusion issues?
    Or is it fine to use just not preferred?
    Many thanks, awesome project!

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching! Great question! If you are referring to the project in the right back corner, then I would not use the ones with silicon. The only reason I wouldn't is because when I drilled the little holes, the individual leds fit in the circles which is what I was wanting. If there was the silicone on the strips, they would not fit in the holes if that makes sense. Other than that, there is nothing wrong with the silicone leds at all and certainly a time and place for them!

    Big fan, all these projects are awesome, just curious, how many power amps did you need for the entire room? How did you conceal them? And did they all have to be 5v60 amp 300 watts?
    Also if it's not too much to ask could you give me some insight on your projectors screen savers, they're unbelievably aesthetic

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching and the kind words! I'm not sure how many amps for the entire room but all the projects are mostly powered by either a usb phone charger (generally around 2amps) or a power block (generally 10amps) or the bigger power supplies (i think usually 30 amps) I really don't have a scientific approach. I just plug them in to whatever power I think would be best and see how they look and go from there by either increasing or decreasing the power unit depending on how things are functioning/looking. Hiding things is also nothing special. I mostly have been able to hide the power units behind things. I did make a video though of one way you can conceal things a little bit if you don't have a place to put it behind. I don't want to go behind drywall to hide things so my options are pretty limited. Glad you like the screen savers! All i'm doing for most everything is just searching on youtube for either "lofi" or "synthwave" or "8bit lofi" and there are a ton of cool music stations with nice looking backdrops! hope that helps!
