Live and Let Die (Suite)

Roger Moore`s first and best outing as 007 is ably supported by a fine score by Beatles producer George Martin. The suite includes...Gunbarrel / Snakebit / Title Theme / Whisper who dares / Bond meets Solitaire / Baron Samedi`s dance of death / Boat chase / The Baron lives / End credits.

A BEATLE did a music theme. GOD's gotta be saving up a spot for him in Heaven for such works. He's really the most mentally-balanced Beatle there was.

McCartney said that he goes to the movies for the music, that he views the visuals and dialogue as support or excuses for the music. He thought that the Fifth Beatle did a very good job in _LALD_ of matching the music to the visuals. Absolutely right.
Poor Geoffrey Holder, God rest his soul, was bitten several times when he fell backward into the coffin. He only agreed to do the single-take shot because Princess Alexandra (yeah, I've never heard of her either) was visiting that day, and Geoffrey didn't want to lose face in front of British royalty. Sadly many think the snakes were fake and don't appreciate what he went through. He did have a remarkably choreographed way of handling a machete.
But back to the snakes... Michael Ebbin, the actor in the thong and animal headdress, was bitten when he was approaching Jane Seymour. He dropped the snake and ran away. You wouldn't guess it from how confidently he handled it on screen. Somehow the snake at her feet while she was tied to two poles bothered her, and the animal handler scooped it up before the snake reached her. Dennis Edwards (as Baines) wasn't playing dead: he fainted. The snake doesn't look close enough to bite, so many think the acting was poor and don't appreciate what the Edwards went through. Hamilton did, and kept the shot.
Director's lesson #1: Don't rely on acting. Hire people who are genuinely scared of what they're dealing with.
Director's lesson #2: When you spring it on an actor that they'll have to do the most horrific act of their career, make sure a celebrity they look up to is scheduled to visit set that day.

Fantastic job! I just wanted the full boat chase segment that is on the MASTERS CD. You rule, pal! I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate what you did with your mixing. Bad ass!
Outside of John Barry, this score was one of the absolute best. Hell, when The Beatles producer, George Martin took over the helm for a new Bond score, this made a difference. It was a big deal when it came out when I was a kid.
