Lars and his catalogue of bands (other than rancid) really are hidden gems, such a great artist. ( far from a bad word against rancid, they're great..just everyone has heard of them, not everyone has heard of his great side projects)
Yet Rancid is classic

I am northern working class and was at most of the oi gigs for a few years back in the beginning of Oi. Perry boys where our enemy back then and used to kick fuck out of punks and skins. I have one memory of a gang of us on the way to the Mayflower club in Gorton Manchester and getting jumped by about twenty Perry boys. Good on all the old skinheads and punks.

I caught O.F.C. in SF live a bunch of years back ago and I gotta say they are a really good live band. Really cool folks with no rockstar attitude. Its so great when you can tell a band " fuck that was such a great set" and they just tell you " really......thanks man" with such sincere humble love for the music and the people that listen to it.

years back I went down to my local music store, was looking for some death metal or of the like, found nothing but I picked a cd out for a look and it was lars Frederiksen and the bastards Viking and thought alright, take him home, give it a go, changed my year, bush fires all sorts of shit, this blokes music really helped get me through some shit, then found The Old Firm Casuals, same thing, blokes a rock legend
Saw The Old Firm last month at The Colony in Sacramento. They were so good! It reminded me of an old school punk show from the 80's... no stage, no monitors, no lighting, and hot as shit. Really good show. Glad to see Lars doing this.

Cant say i have nice memories of those perry boys,going into Manchester on a Saturday afternoon was a violent experience,smart clothes, nasty fringes and giving some punk a good kicking was the usual day out,happy days.
Perry Boys were a football casual movement out of Manchester emerging in the late 70s, equivelant of the Scallies out of Liverpool who emerged at the same time. Standard dress were addidas kick trainers, Lois jeans, Fred Perry tee shirt and a Patrick kagoul. No music affiliation, it was all about scrapping at football matches. Great days!!

I just went to the DKM Rancid show in phoenix and the guy on guitar was totally their guitar tech. It was a great shoe AND I want to thank that guy! He is an awesome artist, a great guitarist and a phenomenal technician. Also clearly a badass to get a black out sleeve.

Damn, so after reading all these comments it seems like Lars is a poser? why? because he changes genres or style or what he represents? or because hes got some money? people tend to forget what punk is about. Its not judging artist or pointing out posers.and it doesn't mean you have to be poor. Its not like Lars farts and 100 dollar bills fly out his ass. he still works. punk is supposed to be about expression,fighting back, standing up against anyone or anything trying to knock you down all while sticking up the middle finger with a loud fuck you behind it. Its OK to change or evolve and try different sounds. Lars has a permanent place in punk history and has done so much to keep it alive. And what band are you in and what have you done? I've organized benefits to unionize the SFBMA for health care and at same show had ARA set up a table. Lars was there .you weren't.
