The presence of joy in your life is the very presence of the Holy Spirit, giving you strength to sustain the situation you’re in and going through. The joy of the Lord manifesting in your life, reveals your time spent with intimate relationship with God, and his word, resting and trusting in the Holy Spirit as he lead you into all truth in the word every day.
Thanks for this David! Really encouraging and love how in depth you are with each verse. I like how you highlighted the differences between Vs 7 and 8. You mentioned it but it was easy for me to glance over these verses and thought he was just repeating himself but he’s actually showing past and future tenses. Also really thankful for your enduring word app and use it very often when meditating and studying scripture
Hello Pastor Guzik, thank you very much for this teaching. I have a question based on minute 18.10-14 where you mentioned that observing activities from the all testament is not what bring us close to the Lord Jesus Christ, my question is in regards the other festivities like Christmas, thanksgiving etc I have a dilema here because I was taught that these are pagan festivities (they are not mentioned in the Bible, they were no commandments, they use images) do I apply the same concept you explained in this segment? thank you in advance for taking the time to answer and I apologize if my question offend anyone, but it is an honest and sincere question my family and I have.
Yes, Pastor David has often spoken to these issues, saying we as believers should not rejoice in performing OR abstaining from certain customs or traditions, or feel ourselves proud or "better than" those who do (or don't do) so, as though our salvation, performance, good works or behaviors are grounds for "a more earned or deserved" connection to Christ Jesus. As it pertains to modern Christian traditions and holidays, which are said by few to be wholly tainted by pagan cultural influences, Pastor David has at times described this as a matter of Christian Liberty; namely, that if celebrating Christmas (or birthdays, Halloween or Harvest festivities, observing the Sabbath on Sunday instead of Saturday, or even eating non-kosher food) somehow stumbles you as an individual, then the Holy Spirit has perhaps put it on your heart as an individual to act in a certain manner that is not otherwise explicitly proscribed for all believers. But, most importantly, such matters of Christian Liberty should NOT become sources of pride, self-righteousness, or boasting - whether in the positive or negative. Meaning, if one commemorates the birth of Christ Jesus on Christmas, it should not elevate them above those who are convinced they should have no part in them for any reason, and vice versa. The avoidance or performance of these Christian, Old Testament, or cultural traditions can often become grounds for division and a puffed up sense of self, and such thinking should always be discouraged and dismissed as of the flesh. That being said, Pastor David is not against the celebration of Thanksgiving or Christmas, and has often pointed to renowned Victorian Charles Spurgeon on this (and on many other matters). He is often selectively quoted by those on one side of the issue or another, but his stance on Christmas is well established here: www.spurgeon.org/resource-library/blog-entries/spurgeons-guidance-on-celebrating-christmas/ Thank you for your comment and God bless! -Enduring Word Team
