Dressed in all black with a white V is a timeless badass look I gotta say.
That V is the Electra
@Henderson Guy Sure looks a lot like it! Could be a custom made replica though.
Missing the white Nike air force and the bullet belt... ;)
White V or red I
Agreed... but for me... nothing more bad ass than the old attack dog stance and the white explorer.
The intro to Blackened has to one of be the most iconic of any Metallica song.
Fight fire with fire is rowdy too.. you know exactly what you're in for when you hear it!
Fucking epic
Iconic i'd give to For Whom The Bell Tolls, it's arguably one of the most recogniseable songs of their, but Blackened is definitely right behind it, absolutely beautiful harmony
And the song is probably my favorite, with tight drums, rythm and meaningful lyrics
... And Justice for Jason version is superior with beefy bass covering the whole chabang
@@yobrethren that's true. There's definitely a few songs that fit the description with all of them coming from their earliest albums.
I’d say master of puppets opening descending riff is more iconic
The crowd screaming “blackened is the end” gives me goosebumps. Best Metallica song of all time in my opinion. Good to see that it will never die💛
My choice One!
first song on the first tape without Cliff, my absolute favorite Metallica song
My favorite to, my favorite Open song on consert of Metallica. Man this is tight after 40 years. Favorite open version of this, Seattle 89 Blackened open the consert. ❤🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@jan-olanakken7376 Holy crap, were you actually there to witness the legendary Seattle '89 concert?! Man, I would have killed to be there in person. Metallica is my all time favorite band, and And Justice for All is my favorite album, so that would have been paradise.
@@Big_Footless no,i was born in 87.
My first DVD was live shit binge and purge,at age of 15. Blackened is my favorite song open on consert of Metallica. And live in Seattle 89 is my favorte consert of Metallica live. This makes me goosebumps every singel time. Its epic !!
Still one of my most favorite metal songs ever.
not only Yourz XD
I was 17 when "Kill 'Em All" came out, been a fan ever since. Been through their ups and downs... and I have to say, I NEVER thought they would still sound this good after almost 40 years. Think about it... almost 40 YEARS!!! You can nit-pick James' voice, Lars' drumming, but I'm still WAY HAPPY at where they are at now.
People send too much time nitpicking, and not enough time enjoying
I think James’ voice has got better with age.
Hahahahaha I was 13 n fell in LOVE....always stuck by them....Happy early birthday Kirk hamster! We love you!!
Yeah they are entering their 60s now, and like no shit they can't play like they used to!!
The tech gets better too ;)
The fact he can play that riff and sing is absolutely out of this world to me
The fact that he can sing like this after shredding his vocal chords down to atoms in the 90's and 2000's is also insane. Man was on the grind with that vocal training.
Lars actually hit the double bass part, damn. He's been practicing again.
Of course he practicing? He has done nearly 2000 concerts over 40 years. Why shouldn´t he practice?
@@malelion It's a known problem with Lars that the reason he often screws up during concerts is that he doesn't have enough time to practice a ton and keep his chops up due to being busy managing the band.
@@malelion He's not a fan of practicing. Not long ago and for many years his live performances had been a lot worse than this. Plus they play to a click now.
@@malelion Because he admitted he never practices and it's known that he doesn't. Dude was always lazy.
What a stupid comment.
The crowd screaming “blackened is the end” was the cherry on top of that perfect performance. METALLICA FOREVER! 🤘
@3:59
As a 30 yr Metallica fan, with addition to the bass and drums, that duet solo section is potentially the best live mix I’ve ever heard.
Man, for real ! Its sounding so damn good
100% agree!!!
Yeah the mixing on recent tours has been godlike. I just wish they had the guts to mix the bass drum a little higher. Lars proved in this performance that he can actually hit the double bass stuff these days, but no one heard it because the mixers were afraid he would fuck it up.
Dude, can we all just appreciate the fact that they are all almost 60 and still keeping this up nearly 35 years later??? Wow
this friday they celebrate 40 years metallica..... Metallica fan forever!!
Yes,Yes,Yes😊
After all these years and James still got his amazing downpicking.
He is still the best metal rhythm guitarist on earth.
Not bad for having piano lessons
@@danwingfield3960 im playing different genres of music and many instruments.
Every lesson helps , every different instrument that you play, opens different music doors. So yeah the piano lessons helped him with his compositions a lot, and Johnny Ramone helped him with downpicking.
He still does it in 7/4 time with some of the most fucked up metric transitions Lars could come up with. Man's musical mental is brilliant as well.
@@elementzero778 Schaffer is great on galloping - fast triplets,he is one of the rhythm guitarists that influenced my playing, but in raw downpicking James is a little bit better.
I love them both and Greek audience is huge fan of Metallica and Iced earth 🤘
@@elementzero778 hahaha that's great 🤘
Greece still has good metal fans 😎
Of course im originally from Crete island, but i love rock - metal music,as much as i love our traditional music 🎵
"fantastic riffage , one the best Metallica riff, so damn beautiful."
Written by Jason.
@@andrew6978 No. Main riff is, not the whole song. Don't lie.
@@andrew6978 Same as Enter Sandman main riff is written by Kirk, but not the whole song. Most of the Metallica riffs are written by Hetfield.
@@JohnnyRaven69 You must be fun at parties.
@@Hornswoop Yes i am! Facts are facts, kid!
I like how Lars is sticking pretty much to what's in the record, instead of rolling and double hitting the snare all over the song. Nice
It's his style trademark.. double hitting the snare..
and he is really on time
He really sounds good nowadays.
That's what i noticed too
He sounds good now because he’s started playing to a click.
*Is it just me or James' voice sounds MUCH better than in the last couple of years?!*
Rehab + corona break did wonders for hin and the band as a whole
I think the somewhat slower tempos live help his voice alot, easier to play and easier to sing when everything isn't rushed.
Naah, his voice was the best during the recording of Hardwired and probably 2 years after. It's not bad now, it's just not the best in recent years
Yesss he is,he smashing, yet some people tell that he isn't good enough anymore
Yes i agree. @ 5:20 you can hear the studio version 'Neverrrrrrrah''
thank you guys for giving us so many top quality free live songs, we all greatly appreciate it
no other band does this, only the best does
They are trying to make up for the Napster incident. Just kidding
It sucks they don’t play the full solo section anymore… that’s my favourite part of the song 🙁
Kirk forgot them
@@Korrekteur exactly:)
@@Korrekteur They just want to make the song shorter.
@@Korrekteur Not enough wah 😝👌
@@gusdominguez7891 Not likely. That maybe because of Lars doing some progressive shait with hitting snare on normal beat and then back to normal. That trickes an ear most of the time
Late Happy Birthday to Kirk!! One of the best lead guitarists in metal history!
No
WOW, i fucking LOVE the sound of Lars's drums in this
Exodus
Het's still got the wrist of steel. And Lars looks like he's been practicing. Kudos to these guys, that was actually pretty good.
Jason wrote this amazing Riffs... salute to you Sir
Okay man. What relation it has to this concert?
@@LowRiderFuckYou the same music they’re playing
@@LowRiderFuckYou Jason wrote the main riff to blackend.
Hello my Monk friend we meet again here.
@@markop89 yeah, i know. Thanks for taking care.
Greetings from a sudanese metalhead. You guys are the best. Thanks for everything
This concert was one of the best concert experiences of my life. Such a small venue and the standing room wasn't as filled to the brim as it could have been you always felt up close to the stage! Amazing show for 2 hours!
Even open the third level four rows back it was just fucking amazing I can't even describe it to people, because it felt even up there like you were close to the stage
These guys are the definition of badass. nearly 40 years later and their still on top of the world. And they are genuinely good people, that shows how cool they really are to me
ESP and Tama have been happy for a very long time. Metallica never gets old. Thank God this new pro shot concert footage is being regularly posted.
so true
Lars is one of I believe only 2 drummers to ever get a whole signature drum kit from Tama, not to mention like 4 or 5 different versions of his signature snare drum. They're definitely happy to have him lol.
And ESP lets Kirk get away with doing signature guitars with Gibson too. I can't imagine how much gear these companies have sold just off of Metallica's fanbase alone.
Awesome! James is almost 60, but he's still best rhythm player ever, also has great voice.
He is trying to sound like a goat again. It was his most unsuccessful experiment, which he had practised since late 90s to 2015. They had their second youth in 2017 and 2018, but now it is crap again. I wish them best.
He 58 I figure this decade will be last cuz they like tour alot but it be hard to tour with all HEALTH stuff in this world...
@@megamakabryczny ? doesn't everyone want to sound good? Your comment doesn't make a lot of sense
@@timofy2641 You are the best evidence, that everyone maybe want to be intelligent, but not everyone can.
@@megamakabryczny He sounds great live. As a singer you CAN NOT preserve one exact vocal style for 40 years without completely ruining your health
thanks Jason
James Hetfield is sounding outstanding including the entire band just like in the old Headbangers days . It gives me back Lash when I was in high school in 1989 .
No.
No.
Yes , You all might not like Metallica but I do its my choice of music and for many other million fans just like me . At least we appreciate what this band brings to the table . I have a remedy for you just don't listen to them easy . Problem solved .
My god. No.
They had a dip in like 2014-2016 when lars couldnt keep on time and james tried to sing more clean but now they're solid as concrete! Really happy to see them back on track!
32 years now that i love and follow this band. of course they had their "bad days" (load/re-load) and yes, you can see the amount of concentration it needs to play the solos and riffs acurate, but they still rock and rock hard
More like St Anger
They are so tight now it’s not even real. PERFECT timing. New album please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
It’s because they’re playing to clicks now. And they’ve brought all the tempos down a few bpm. Amazing what a difference a few common-sense decisions can make.
@@blahzay_ Not a good thing for a live band.
@@ColtraneTaylor who even cares? it sounds better.
@@ColtraneTaylor Lars is not solid enough to nail the tempos unassisted. Using clicks at this point is a totally acceptable compromise to achieve some tightness and consistency - two things their live performance has lacked over the last 20 years
@@ColtraneTaylor it’s about performing, holy shit dude you’ll complain about anything. There almost what, 60?
Seriously good after all these years. I've lost count of how many times I've seen them live. Always deliver. Their history just defines them even more, and they have come through a lot and still rolling. Metallica, I salute you 🤘
WHY DO THEY CUT THE SOLO SHORT? They literally cut out the best part of the entire song!
I'm so sad they did that, literally was waitin for the best part.
Likely because it was at the end of the set and they’re tired, they do this with battery and the interlude part as well. They’re older and just can’t play it as well anymore, as well as Kirk has said he sometimes has a hard time remembering how to play the solos
I wish they would pull out the full version too. I suspect they just want to keep the song moving. They've done the same thing with songs like Battery and The Four Horsemen. It certainly isn't due to difficulty/lack of Kirk's ability, as it is nowhere near the hardest material he has to play. And they've been doing this for a long, long time, so it isn't reflective of age.
@@Clem2378
Yeah I know, they've been doing this for the past few years in live, which I get it. Don't you just want your idols to become young and fresh again? Lol
They are weaker after last break. Riffs aren't as dynamic as in the 2018, and James is singing like a goat again. Don't like it now.
Never heard of these guys before. They sure can play 🤘
Metallica is always in my heart I never get bored with Metallica and Metallica will be forever legend 😎
His Voice!!! Every day only gets better, live singing with this powerful voice, amazing!!!
Miss that second solo...it was one of the best solo written by Kirk
Kirk was butchering it to that point so James stepped in and said enough and started singing the next verse.
@@TasteGaming No that isn’t completely false. They’ve been cutting the solo short since the 90’s. Kirk plays the solo like this every time.
@@TasteGaming That is sooooo not true.
@@TasteGaming lol, they like NEVER play the secong part of the solo. Wish they did though, as well as the altered intro riff before the final verse. That one is the coolest.
@@luisugalde6956 They did on the Justice Tour but cut it down afterwards becauce "jUsTiCe sOnGs aRe tOo LOnG".
My #1 Metallica song!!
They cut the solo short, bruhh. It's like the best part of the song! Imagine cutting off the Tornado Of Souls solo, couldn't be me
ig yh, tho realistically, its very difficult for them ,they aren't exactly, 30, they're like 60+ and with all the other songs its very tiring and hard to memorise honestly, which i can get, especially as you get older, tho i totally get your dissapointment
Such facts
Have done for 20 years.
@@raiden1425 hard to memorize? Wtf, are they Metallica, or is it a cover band?
To be fair..... its a different guitarist playing it live with Dave every 5 years or so.
Bless them always NO ONE ELSE MATTERS
hope theyll play the whole length of the song together with the solo
so sad they still didnt haha
the best blackened I ever heard this last ten years !!! wow !!!
Greatest band in history!
These guys have really improved these past couple years. In my opinion they’ve always been good live but they’ve really “refined” their craft lately. Can’t wait to see em again
Гитарные рифы, темп и стиль группы остаётся на высоте.
The guitar riffs, tempo and style of the band remain at their best.
This has my favorite riff intro of all of their songs, so nastatious.
They have more energy than me 30 years younger. A one of a kind band. Legends
Thank you so much Metallica
Do you know why Metallica put Kirk on the thumbnail?
Because tomorrow is Kirk's Birthday. Happy Birthday Kirk.
Even too early
I thought it's because of his shirt
Still happy birthday Kirk 🎉🎉🎉🎉
They just keep on getting better and better
"WOW" sounding really clean and tight! Best and closest to studio version other than solo I think I've ever heard live!!
That's song will never get old ! Like the first time hearing it everytime
The best Metallica opening song IMO🤘🏽
Definitely one of my favourite songs to hear live at a show.
Metallica killing it since 80s years🤟🤟🔥
Happy birthday, kirk. You are my idol and my inspiration. Long life and keep rocking 🤘🎸
James is in such good shape, the whole band actually...can't wait to see them live
The best! Blackned is forever!
Бесподобно... эти ребята уникальные. Явление, которое никогда не повторится...
Sound amazing. No words
I LOVE that James doesn’t try to be his young self. He embraces his Kickass grandpa persona and sings the way his 58 year old voice will let him.
Edit: and I can’t BELIEVE they’re still playing this hard-ass song live!
I'm not sure why people complain about the click track if it makes this madness possible. Like this song took 500 IQ and pure god energy to perform without one in the 80s. You can't reasonably expect a band that's not prog (i.e. classically trained) to be doing this shit in their 60's without a click track; you can't expect most bands to do shit like this at all.
They all are playing impeccably.
3:55 That's hot. These guys - most underrated twin lead stuff in rock history.
Hands down, they still rock, thank you Metallica for creating such amazing and powerful music.
Музыка на все времена🤘👍💪
He still kicks ass and always will...1 of the greats for sure
almost 60 and they are still playing fast and having fun, love to see it.
Blackened live with the white V and the black outfit is timeless. all the way through to 2038 and really to eternity...thank you!!
Greatest metal band of all time 🙌🏼
Slayer
You are so right
@1:09 Even the downpicking god himself, James Hetfield, sometimes gets a tired right forearm playing this song in all downpicks! Love these guys so much!
This song is just harsh and meany on your hands to play, studio style especially
It's good to know how to play your riffs easier or differently to relax sometimes
Fuck even Rob’s vocals have gotten better. This live performance of this song is the best since Seattle ‘89 with Jason. 🤘🏻😆🤘🏻
Damn, that drum kit sounds good. Love the toms especially.
Without Newsted, the intro would not have existed. Miss you dearly brother! And Justice For Jason 🤘🏼
It's great that they keep doing this, Metallica always stay alive somehow

this show sold out in like an hour, I was on floor, it was awesome. Sorry you could not make it.
...never do....since years ago...
@@vman33 I was in the third level and it was still fucking amazing because it's such a small venue
This preformance/song can hang with any modern death metal in terms of it's execution and techniques.
I was there!! Smashin night out!!
Damn they sound so tight and focused, they haven't sounded this good in a long time dude. Hell yeah.
Man. I totally remember the first time I heard this song. I fell in love with it. It reminded me of Master of Puppets, but so much more grown-up sounding. And its so spastic and random that to this day, I never bothered to learn it. I've listened to this song 1000 times, and it still throws little off-time surprises at me. Its like an old school Metallicas answer to Rush's La Villa Strangiato.

Kirk played his whole part so badly that i even forgot how the actual solo was... Now time to go back and watch 89' Seattle version. And you're right buddy, that little legato part was something. By the way, i wonder how he's not embarrassed of the shit he played. Look at his face, still making some facial impressions as if he listened the real version inside his head while playing that garbage for us. Okay, i'm relaxed a bit.
These guys just keep getting better and tighter with time. Been a fan since the first album...
Killer performance! Lars and Kirk did great. I just wished they would finish playing that second solo section by Kirk.
