I recently started working on this song after countless attempts. Having this footage of him so close is a great help, especially on the solo. The ease with which he plays it is a testament to his virtuosity. It frees his mind so he can play with his heart. Best VH song ever. God bless King Edward!
He does make it look so effortless. I have a really wide stretch on the neck. That's no problem. The notes can be played. But, it's his fingers, man. His looseness and swing. He's always in the pocket. That can't really be learned or replicated. It's so agonizing. 😅
A world without Edward in it is still hard to comprehend. Long live the GOAT, his incredible legacy and the amazing works of art he left with us. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece.
Possibly the rippingest, meanest van halen song of all. Love seeing Eddie's hands up close; wish we could see more of Alex. The two of them tear this up unlike anyone else ever could.
Acually Eddies doctor gave him some special earbud type hearing aids so that he could cancel out Dave's voice cause Eddie was getting these really bad migraines whenever he came in contact with Dave. 😃
Eddie’s legato is at the highest level in the land! And that tremolo picking is insane. Eddie is inspiration. Goosebumps!! What a massive talent. He’s our Beethoven
At that age and still executing precision at that level is just not human...I've heard and seen all the greats...this guy is in a class and league all his own...his skills, precision, execution, and yes feel is just unfathomable
His singing on this tour right up to 2015 hurts to watch, it's embarassing. Doesn't even try to sing the tunes properly and would rather prance around like a clown. If I were EVH I'd be pissed off at him every.concert for making the band look bad.
What’s so great about this song and the second side of 1984 is how dark it is. HFT opens up, but it’s almost like a fake right cross that makes you feel happy and bubbly. then BAMM!!!!! The next three songs are dark AF, and to hear what the band was going though at the time, just makes them even darker and meaner. Ed’s rhythm work was like he was playing for his life, and the solo on House of Pain, is one of his best. The second side of 1984 is peak Roth era, refined after five albums…..musical and rock perfection. Nothing musically comes close.
Eddie's playing was awesome. I love how he is giving Randy Rhoads some tribute in this song. They both influenced each other and the rest of the 80s guitar players.
ED didn't play enough guitar in his studio after 1990 . We can clearly hear the difference of velocity and precision. He said us " Keep on playing dudes..." He should have....
All four original folks involved in this band, all played a pivital role. The 1st iteration of Van Halen was beyond good, as was the second version. Let us enjoy both!! It must be hard to handle fame and sucess, just like failure.
Dave: ok so what do I do with my hands .. I'll just look at Alex and Ed. Eddie: I don't Fu#$in care I'm just going to play my ass off. They came to see me anyway!!
I second that this is a very good view of Eds hands for those of us trying to master this song. He has a lighter attack than I imagined, I believe he was a bit more aggro with the pick on the OG track. Very interesting that he clicks on his Phaser at 1:49 for the walk down lick then uses his Wah for the following bridge. This was pretty damn good, I thought Dave did well too (sure was wiping his nose a lot and he needs to stop all that snapping!_.
this is such a great version honestly, Dave and Eddie, might hate each other previously, but in later years, not here. well, a little hate. but, a great version, and that's how it goes with VH lol for fans. take that Wolf.
So Roth turned this into spoken word? This track should have always been an instrumental because just the band’s playing is phenomenal on the original recorded track from 1984. The lyrics don’t fit the music but the original recorded version, in my opinion, is the band at its recorded instrument-playing best. Amazing changes in dynamics.
Very nice posting! You had amazing seats!! But, for the love of Gawd, can Ed Please make up with Sammy? PLEASE?!? It is Painful to hear Dave's voice. And, Please Ed, get Mikey back, while you're at it. As a parent of three I understand wanting to spend time with your kids and try to set them up in life. But, really? Just bring Sammy and Mikey back. Please, I beg of you. This is just sad. Awesome post, Thank You for sharing this.
Recorded Dave...Amazing! Live Dave...fucking throw away performance for so many years. Sad this really interesting and talented guy couldn't muster enough to maintain his voice or fucking remember lyrics. Audiences want performances at least close to the album. What a waste.
I’m sorry but, David Lee Roth cannot sing man. He’s such in good shape (still is) and just can’t sing. Barely puts any effort into it. I say it all the time, I like Hagar’s personality better than Dave’s. But, I like the Roth era more.
Are you that Ted you know that pot smoking Ted in the movie? Because with comments like wanting Sammy back in VH my guess is you got ripped off/short changed from your dealer!! My suggestion his get another dealer that way it'll stop you from saying cringe stuff like Sammy does. Oh & stay away from the Cabo Wabo too
BEST SONG OFF OF 1984!!!!!
Rest in peace to the greatest guitar player who ever lived....EVH
I agree.
I'll drink to that
I have to agree.
One Meelion percent!
There’s only one… 500 years from now they’re gonna be people saying the same thing……
Eddie's playing is nuclear powered. He's got the energy of a billion suns in his riffs. Genius.
I recently started working on this song after countless attempts. Having this footage of him so close is a great help, especially on the solo. The ease with which he plays it is a testament to his virtuosity. It frees his mind so he can play with his heart. Best VH song ever. God bless King Edward!
How’s your playing going?
There's 3 runs in this song that are the best guitar work I've ever heard.
He does make it look so effortless. I have a really wide stretch on the neck. That's no problem. The notes can be played. But, it's his fingers, man. His looseness and swing. He's always in the pocket. That can't really be learned or replicated. It's so agonizing. 😅
the timing is so hard on this song - u get a whole new appreciation for him when u try and learn his material
❤
A world without Edward in it is still hard to comprehend. Long live the GOAT, his incredible legacy and the amazing works of art he left with us. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece.

Girl Gone Bad as Narrated by David L. Roth
Greg Gardner 😂😂😂😂
Lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Possibly the rippingest, meanest van halen song of all. Love seeing Eddie's hands up close; wish we could see more of Alex. The two of them tear this up unlike anyone else ever could.
Eddie played this awesome for live! He also looked so chubby, healthy, and happy. Still hard to believe he's gone.
So what is the red button for? I hear its a kill switch for Dave's mic?
I wish... but it is a mute button
LMAO!! Brian, you are a funny guy
Acually Eddies doctor gave him some special earbud type hearing aids so that he could cancel out Dave's voice cause Eddie was getting these really bad migraines whenever he came in contact with Dave. 😃
Haha...good one!
Now that's funny 😂
They were really missing Mikey's platinum voice on this one...
And his fretwork during the solo. Seriously, on the album he’s all over the place, but it totally works.
Eddie’s legato is at the highest level in the land! And that tremolo picking is insane. Eddie is inspiration. Goosebumps!! What a massive talent. He’s our Beethoven
You need to investigate Allan Holdsworth.
@@iceWaterProductions1 i have most of his records if not all. Been listening to AH since i went to college in 89 but thanks.
One of the best VH songs going. Solo groove is phenomenal. Dave on cloud 9 😂
It is, but it’s enhanced by what Anthony is doing underneath it on the album. Wolf’s a talented kid, but, doesn’t attempt to replicate it here.
Your video has the best view of how Ed plays this incredibly difficult song! Great quality! Thanks for sharing!
Nobody had a better smile and glow than Eddie when he was playing. Fuck, I miss him.
Saw them in Vegas on this tour. Ed was on fire. Tone was insane. it was the last time i got to see them live. So glad i did.
EVH was in a really good shape back then, so healthy.. so long legend..
Great close-ups! Aaah, those hands... Nobody has those magical hands, nobody ever will ever again.
At that age and still executing precision at that level is just not human...I've heard and seen all the greats...this guy is in a class and league all his own...his skills, precision, execution, and yes feel is just unfathomable
Ed’s tone, absolutely stunning. RIP Edward
Ed here is a little older. Been through the ringer but still delivers. RIP Riff Master General
Everyone ripping on Dave can pound rocks! He was the king in his day and still sounds good for his age. He's lived what you all only dream of
His singing on this tour right up to 2015 hurts to watch, it's embarassing. Doesn't even try to sing the tunes properly and would rather prance around like a clown. If I were EVH I'd be pissed off at him every.concert for making the band look bad.
RIP EDDIE RIP ROTHS VOICE
Great recording ... love watching Eddie executing his thang ... it looks so effortless when Eddie does it ... he looked great at that Time... genius
Great footage. Eddie’s playing was phenomenal as always! One of my favourite VH songs - it’s so dense with amazing parts.
This is the BEST VH song EVER!!!🙌🏾
What’s so great about this song and the second side of 1984 is how dark it is. HFT opens up, but it’s almost like a fake right cross that makes you feel happy and bubbly.

👍💯
This should’ve been the radio hit for 1984
Great music at end with Alex was dope
RIP my friend . : (
One of my faves!! Long live King Ed!!!🔥🔥🔥
EVH is so fucking great. Such a great underrated VH tune. One of my faves!
Unfuckingbelievable performance. Unfuckingbelievable quality.
This is a killer sounding video to be up so close. Great job!
Saw the Women and Children First, Fair Warning and 1984 tours, and have to say I regret not seeing Edward on this tour.
Kind of sloppy, yeah. But Eddie's bringing it pretty hard, which I can appreciate. EVH still kicking some ass there... saved the song really.
morceau magique de V.H. tout y est solo riff tapping . merci encore Eddie pour ta musique .R.I.P.
Eddie's playing was awesome. I love how he is giving Randy Rhoads some tribute in this song. They both influenced each other and the rest of the 80s guitar players.
it truly sucks getting old
ED didn't play enough guitar in his studio after 1990 . We can clearly hear the difference of velocity and precision. He said us " Keep on playing dudes..." He should have....
Glad I’ve found this video. My favorite Van Halen Song
Love this song
Love this ! The band is on fire !
The Master
EVH the Master
AWESOME ❤❤❤❤❤
Most excellent!!
My favorite of off 1984
Amazing!!!!! Great performance!!!!!
F'N LEGEND!!!
All four original folks involved in this band, all played a pivital role. The 1st iteration of Van Halen was beyond good, as was the second version. Let us enjoy both!! It must be hard to handle fame and sucess, just like failure.
BRILLIANT, STELLAR...VAN FUCKIN' HALEN!!!!!
If you sing eddie harmony with wolfies it actually sounds right
Cambell F True
No, it won't because Wolf was way off key here. Really missing Mike on this one. And I like Wolf, but he was off here.
Dave: ok so what do I do with my hands .. I'll just look at Alex and Ed. Eddie: I don't Fu#$in care I'm just going to play my ass off. They came to see me anyway!!
How Ed and Alex went from the best band in the world with Carnal Knowledge and Balance tours to this still amazes me.
Van Hagar blows.
wolfgangs backing vocals are powerful
One of Ed's meanest grooves! I fuck!ng love this song! Roth era VH is the best band ever!
I second that this is a very good view of Eds hands for those of us trying to master this song. +Brian Gmail this live version is over processed, I prefer the dry more - sounds like the phase is way too thick in the mix...... here.....
That snapping is really crazy he must have really lost it
Evh still got it. Dave just fucking ruins it. Man I love roth but he is literally talking the lyrics
como se te extraña ....
Wow, that was good. Dave was chill and didnt overkill this one.
this is such a great version honestly, Dave and Eddie, might hate each other previously, but in later years, not here. well, a little hate. but, a great version, and that's how it goes with VH lol for fans. take that Wolf.
Wau!!
Should have let Beautiful Girls play as well!
Woa!
I was there.
Great to see DLR sing a song straight and not compete with EVH!!!!!
This song really shows Ed’s love for Allan Holdsworth.
Hang Em High or Last Night ?
@@minkahed6724 Girl Gone Bad.
He didn't sing it much better in 84, either.
Dave is definitely light in the loafers.
Dave actually sounds better here than live in 1983
Hope we see these guy's again in the near future!
Chris Zimmer you will, minus Dave.
Brett Woodmansee Dave is VH .. Ed’s health is not too good from what i hear. They were supposed to be touring a couple years ago.
This hurts to read :(
@@jammybadger9311 I know, figured i get to see them again! RIP King Edward
He was certainly something else, even after the booze, and drugs. Dude just had the sauce.
Playing is great... Seems like the fun is gone
In an interview Eddie said he didn’t use a pedal board, but that sure looks like a pedal board…
Wolfies no Anthony but damn he held his own with those screams
(The Many Looks Of Eddie)... Crazy, Ed never looks the same, from tour, to tour.. I this video, he looks "Gary Moore"ish" 😄
Love this tune but goddamn there's so much flange I can barely hear the notes lol
Love Eddie- Miss Eddie..!! Dave not so much..!! With all do respect Mr Dave--Vocals 101--I mean that's them the basic's Bro Peace Out..!!
It appears to me that an alien has hijacked Dave's soul
Very nice posting! You had amazing seats!! But, for the love of Gawd, can Ed Please make up with Sammy? PLEASE?!? It is Painful to hear Dave's voice. Considering the other vocal work on this tour, i thought this was one of the better songs DLR talke.... er sang on
Dave looked and dressed like your friend from school’s lesbian mom.
0:37
Cameraman focused on Eddie strumming chords whilst Alex is creating a singularity.
Pity…
DLR is such as used car salesman.
Wolf is a great bass player but I hate the tone of that bass it’s too twangy
why gilrs gone bad.i dont konw but i have the theory that its defitiveli a oneselve decision.
Recorded Dave...Amazing! Live Dave...fucking throw away performance for so many years. Sad this really interesting and talented guy couldn't muster enough to maintain his voice or fucking remember lyrics. Audiences want performances at least close to the album. What a waste.
Bring Sammy back.
Nah, Sam would replace this song with one of his love songs.
man, they so needed Mikey for this tour. wolf so bad.
what makes you think mike would’ve sounded good on a song he hasn’t performed since 1984
@@knightfall9394 he sings old VH with Sammy!
Wolfie your note was off
Yep, way off. Missing Mike on this one
I have a question, is it that Roth CAN’T sing or is it because he just doesn’t care?
I honestly think he cares not to sing it the way it was written. He can do it....I don’t understand why he doesn’t. It blows my mind.
@@BlueLionProject He didn't sing this right in 84, so we can forget him doing it right now
the sound of that shriek can only last so long. that sound was glorious, lucky vocal damage. and i think his stage moves here are pretty good
Does Roth even try here? Lmao
I’m sorry but, David Lee Roth cannot sing man. He’s such in good shape (still is) and just can’t sing. Barely puts any effort into it.

Roth is horrible
1:24 Ugh...Awful harmony!
Thats just wolfie singing
Roth is so off key!
sounds crap!
Ed plays better after a couple of lines of blow.
Negative and they didn’t do coke during shows but after they sure did. You can’t do blow and sing and play worth the crap on stage.
