My Grand daughter said to me years ago. "Grandma I'm not a baby anymore.". It was a wake up call and shock. It made me realize I had better "Get a Life". And from that time on, I have made it my business to balance my family life with my social life. My family and Senior friends love my independence and free spirit. I'm 85 and truly alive. Thanking The LORD.

Just returned from a family reunion where we celebrated a relative's 100th birthday. She still lives alone (widow) in a lovely apartment - not assisted living - at 100! She was a nurse in WWII and an RN her entire working years. She has plenty of family around and is still quite social. IMO we all should aspire to have such a full life.

You have hit on a very real thing. I recently reached 80 and have noticed this phenomenon for a few years now. I catch myself telling people don't let the gray hair fool you. I refuse to allow anyone to call me grandma or anything that has an aging context to it. So long as the Lord allows me to live alone by my own wits and keep my faculties intact I will not give up

You are so right about this, Nanny! I live alone and am separated from my husband at 71 years old. My only child struggles with depression and works full time so I don't see her as often as I'd like. I'm lucky to have lots of good friends and a dog that keeps me out and about in my friendly neighborhood, but lately I'm aware of my mortality and sometimes feelings of irrelevance and unsociability creep up on me. Your reminders will help me to include some new pastimes (not solitary ones) into my life. Thank you for caring for us as we all care for you and Moosie.

I have been attending a Bible study of over 400 women for 14 years. I lead a small group of them ranging in age from the 20"s to the 80's. We have a meaningful, vibrant time discussing the Word and sharing our lives. It's so wonderful to hear about the struggles of the young moms and the challenges of the more mature ladies. I think it's vital to be a part of a group like this. It keeps you from becoming stale. We influence one another in positive ways.

Im guilty for when I was in my late 30’s 65 was old. Well I’m 74 now and I got here wayyyyy too fast!! And yes, my family does go days without calling me and it affects my mood and how I feel about myself. A hug goes a long long ways. I just have a soon and 2 grown grandsons , my family is small. What makes me feel worse is I’ve had a HA & a stroke last year and that has made me fearful. I even did counseling & that gave me a lot of ways to get my mind out of the stinkin thinkin!! Thank goodness. Happy to be alive all in all!!! Xo TY for posting this. I just pulled my grannies panties up!!

Nanny, I watch all your videos, BUT this one has to be up there with one of the best! You really get people & you also understand that not everyone has the support & attention from their families/friends for a multitude of reasons. You offered sound advice to all of us. There are a lot of people that are alone & suffering with their health issues & sadly our health systems are broken & doctors & support staff are struggling to keep up. Pain & illness is not easy to be around at times & for the person suffering it is a daily challenge. Your talks & encouragement are so needed today so that we know we are not alone & your ideas on what we could try were great too. I love to watch your videos at night. I don't feel so alone no matter what the subject is because you share your own feelings & life experiences, whether they are good or bad.
Thank you for sharing & I will keep you & Moosie & your family in my prayers.❤🙏

I absolutely agree! When I would take my mother somewhere in her wheelchair, I found my mother was treated like a piece of furniture. She would sit there and say, “I am here. You will speak directly with me, please.” (She was a retired 2nd grade schoolteacher.)
I am now 77 and have all of my faculties (for the time being anyway) and I have experienced ‘invisibility’ a couple of times already. I find it is critical to engage with eye contact. Then I can speak and be listened to. I believe as I get older, this whole engaging thing will be quite a chore, especially if I’m being wheeled around.
I also come back home feeling so happy after getting together with friends and talking and laughing and feeling part of something.
It is definitely a thing and a very important thing.

What great timing for this video. My husband passed away 27 months ago and I am 69 - 70 next month and have been trying to put myself back together. I belong to an African Violet Club and missed quite a few meetings due to being down and out and some mobility issues. I realize I need to go! I also need to start back to water aerobics classes to get the movement and the socialization. This video has inspired me. Thank you so much. This is my experience of being 'invisible". I was in my sixties shopping with my forty year old daughter. We stopped at a beauty boutique to get a product I use regularly. I headed for the shelf where it's usually kept while she looked around. A sales associate came up to her right away. Meanwhile, I didn't see my product after looking for a few minutes. Finally, I approached a sales associate and asked for the product by name and that I couldn't find it. She was pretty dismissive, telling me they'd moved things around recently. She directed me to the new location but offered no further help. She was also at the register when I came to pay and seemed embarrassed to see me again. My daughter and I were dressed in business casual wear and looked like paying customers. Afterward, she told me her sales girl wanted to chat with her about new products, etc. even though she didn't make a purchase.

I just came from my youngest granddaughter's wedding. My brother and sister-in-law took me. It was about an hour and a half away. I enjoyed it so much. Spending time with my brother was so fun. He is so busy he owns a busy so doesn't have much spare time. So I got to spend the day with family and some new people I never saw before. My other granddaughter the older sister to the bride. Was their 2 and 2 of her 5 children. So I got to visit with my 2 great grandchildren to. What a bonus. I got out of my comfort zone. I am not very mobile. But I made it and glad I did. This just happened yesterday. Right in line of your video. Love your videos. Blessings to you and Moosey. Xoxoxo ❤

My sweetheart went to heaven 13 years ago and I'm just now learning to breathe again. I too, moved away from my TN home, miss my friends, my church family, and the mountains. Louise, I'm going to pray for you daily. I hope that's ok. I'm going to pray that we both start enjoying life, and that God will send some sweet surprises your way, and mine! 🙂God bless you.

Beautiful insight on creating personal joy. I’m so glad to hear of Moosie’s happy experience! It can make a difference in his healing.
Recently I experienced a sinking in my heart when I heard my adult children got together and didn’t include me. It was not intentional to not invite me but they are adults now and have social lives in and out of family. Their get together was not a family event ie birthday, graduation etc. and it wasn’t the entire family but a couple of my kids and their partners. It has taken days for me to process my sadness. Then I realized the many times I got together with my sister and didn’t invite our mother. It didn’t seem out of place or unnatural to exclude her but we hadn’t thought to include her either. As I look back (mom is gone now) I can see how much joy she would have derived from a simple breakfast or lunch out with her daughters. All that to say - invite someone you love and who is alone, they will decline or accept as need be - but that invitation will make them happy to know you thought of them. ❤

Nanny dearest ❤️ nobody could possibly say that you are preaching 😢 it’s all excellent information you pass on through your feelings and experiences that are so real to so many of us.
As has been said before you are an ‘inspiration’ and you must wear that label proudly as the gift you give is certainly inspirational whatever one’s circumstances are.
Being aware of others who aren’t as fortunate for a myriad of reasons are always in your chats and that alone makes those folks and from the many comments are of much value.
Bless you and Moosie and may he continue to improve each day .
I’m an 83 year old widow of six years with a rather large garden to keep under control 😅 so I’ve learnt to do exactly as you mention.. keeping a positive attitude and keeping things in perspective for my particular circumstances!

Nanny, this video is of such importance. I know many say they are alone, but not lonely. I completely understand that…..BUT, I also believe we humans are meant to be around other humans. I agree that the age doesn’t matter, but the human interaction does. I also know that making new friends as you age does become more challenging, so we have to be willing to put some effort into building that community. I have been retired now for 5 years, and am at a point where I am really ready to find either a community group, a volunteer organization ,etc, to broaden my circle. Definitely not my most comfortable situation, but I know this will pay off. And if the first attempt isn’t so great, then I will try something else. Thank you for the inspiration and for how much you care for your community here. God bless you and Moosie. Have a good week ahead. 🥰☀

So happy you got such a refreshing call from Moosie!!! God works in such wonderful ways when we least expect Him to!!! I agree with you 100% about putting one’s self out there!!! People at any age also need to remember that they need to be a friend to have a friend!!! Being lovable and friendly is a must if we want people to enjoy our company. Older people can sometimes give unwanted advice and come across in a way that could offend, so we always must remember not to give advice unless it’s asked for and not to profess our opinions so much. We don’t have and won’t ever have grandchildren, so our only family is our one daughter and her husband. They are both very highly educated and don’t need our advice about anything, so we just try to enjoy whatever we do together and also try not to get into any discussions that may not be right-hopefully you know what I mean. Thankfully we agree on political subjects which is always a big relief and can definitely be the source of a lot of discord. I passionately believe that being involved in church activities can be a source of great satisfaction, as well as being a volunteer in some worthwhile organization. I also believe that a senior retirement living environment can be a wonderful alternative to living alone. I do realize that a senior living facility can be expensive-but if it is within reach, it should absolutely be considered-I know, for sure, that if I ever end up alone, I will definitely look into a senior living residence for myself. Just my thoughts…💝💝💝

You’re not preaching. You’re teaching, which you’re a master at doing. Having some sort of interaction with other people, even occasionally or briefly, is basic to our human nature. Just simple acts such as saying hello with a smile while walking or complimenting a person is very uplifting, not only for the receiver but the giver as well. Your videos are evidence of this, too. So even subscribers who say they don’t want social interaction are connecting with you, which proves your points made! We all need human kindness and positive interactions. Excellent discussion, Nannie.

Hi Nanny. This is a great post and everything you said is very true and helpful for people to think about. I worked for many years in a nursing facility and we tried so hard to stay aware of invisible people. One great idea for family members to do is bring into the patient’s room , photos of your patient that shows them in their younger years!!! Especially of them being active like playing sports or playing with the kids. But show him as a young, vibrant, fun person. It helps the nursing staff to “see” the patient in a different light and it makes a difference. 💖

So true eveything you said. It does seem hard to put yourself out there especially if you don’t live near family, or, like me you’ve moved so many times many of your good friends are far away. I recently joined a new book club with women of different ages ( I’m by far the oldest) but a couple of the younger ladies have had me over for dinner and drinks and we had a blast together. I do miss the friendships I made all the years I was working. But social media has been a godsend in that area. YOU ARE LIKE MY GOOD FRIEND WHO I CAN COUNT ON TO KEEP IN TOUCH👍🥰. Thank you for that and God bless you and Moosie!

    Hi Nanny
    Another great video
You always make a good point
    You never are preaching
Well, Nanny, you know how I feel about you
Actually, you really perked me up today
I get down, from being alone
I am widowed for almost 18 years and it feels like yesterday
I loved ❤him since I was 12 years old, Nanny, and when people say “you should be over it” they are wrong
Anyway, you are a very positive person and uplifting person and I am certain you lift a lot of people up , so keep on doing what you do
Looking forward to your next video
    Love,
    Barbara

Yes, Nanny! Last night my little granddaughter spent the night. We stayed up late and we read 3 books at bedtime 😊 Being with her talking and having fun rejuvenates me😅 The other grandkids are teenagers and boys. They're too busy to play games or visit like they used to. She's in school activities and there's less time for us to get together but i cherish every giggle, and every hug they share with me ❤❤
Great advice for getting out and active. I may take your advice ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Prayers for you and Moosey🙏

What a great story. I’ve told you before that even though I’m a senior, most of my life I’ve always been around people who are at least ten years older than me. That’s who I love being around. I love to hear their life stores. I’m sure there are others like that too. Obviously, those who work there. I’m so happy Moosie had a wonderful day and thankful that the hospital he’s in has employees that make Moosie feel important.❤️

Good morning Nanny. I was very happy to know that Moose had a wonderful time. It’s so important for his convalescence to feel integrated into a party and have friendly people around him. In reality, socialising with other people helps us not to feel invisible, but it becomes difficult in closed societies. Love you Nanny, take care with yourself and God bless you all.

Sounds like Moosie is coming along nicely, hopefully it continues. There are some days that I can be sorry for me but on the other hand I'm happy, miss hubby, but learning to be alone and not lonely. I read all the time, I love you tube, the beauties, and of course, visits from grandkids. I have lost most of my friends and those that are left are in their 80's and not driving any more. I don't want to join any groups either grief or otherwise. Wishing all of our ladies and men happiness and to just keep busy and don't dwell on the negative. 🙏🏈

HI Nanny , I am 64 and working with mostly women & men in late 30's early 40's .. I definitely feel very very left out and counting the days until I retire in 2025!! I do not have friends near by, so I hope to garden, and volunteer at the bookstore at our Diocese office building, and find other groups. It truly is harder to make friends as we age. Blessings and hugs Paula prayers to Moosie and you xoxo P.S I went and visited my 88 year old uncle that truly made his days , I plan on doing it more !

I think there are 2 messages in your video - the obvious one is to make the effort to be seen, but the 2nd is be sure we "see" others and include them in life. I totally understand what you're talking about here. I tend to stay in the background & observe others, and it's hard for me to jump in, but you have reminded me it's important to do so! Thanks Nanny - sending love, hugs, and prayers for you both from West Texas --

This was a much needed video for so many of all ages, but especially i think those of us that have many years behind us .
When i became extremely depressed which led to many physical illnesses after my husband passed, my daughter stepped in and helped me find the right doctors and i was so grateful for her take charge attitude. But as i started to come out of my fog and wanted to be a part of life again, i realized the doctors were talking to her like i wasn't even there....i spoke up to let them know they should be talking to me. That got their attention. 🙂
It will happen in stores which really aggravate s me, but i know one day it's going to happen to those people so i guess karma 😂😂

Hi Nanny! I feel the love you are giving to all of us! You are such a loving spirit! I'm a big introvert (came out of army bratness that way or was just born that way). I know what you are saying about getting out there, and it's almost as if you are giving me a pep talk because I just want to stay in my comfort zone, but I know it's not really 100% good to be shut in all the time. I must work on my social anxiety. So glad Moosie had a good time and it lifted his spirits! That was just what he needed! Sounds like he is in a good place! Thank you for such an uplifting video!🥰❤

So happy to hear Moosie had a great time at the party!!!!
We all need fun, feeling part of.. ,being cherished, loved, seen and respected!!!!❤❤❤❤
I was thinking Moosie might enjoy headphones, with easy to listen to, but complex music. For instance Mozart. Or w a skilled actor reading a complex but easy to listen to classic book. I can imagine Moosie will be bored easily. But to tired or in pain, too handle demanding thinking most of the time.
Nanny you may find ASMR channel Gentle Whispering helpfull for sleeping or just destressing❤❤❤❤
