Thanks for checking this one out!
Can you name all the references? I can’t.
Lmk what you think of it and a big thank you to my patrons and members!!
Inspirational and very well made. The pacing was captivating. Great video man! Thanks.
I was surprised to see Mistborn. Don't see that much in the wild.
A big thank you to you as well.
You really ought to have like a soundboard cause I feel like that'll be a good fit
What song is that in the intro? An absolute bop 😊
We didn't deserve this, but you bless us nonetheless.
We rise with the waves
4:39 Sam deciding to use his 9th level spell slot to counterpell Vecna rather than saving it for a wish spell to save his best friend's character will forever live in my mind as to the sort of impact I want to have on my players and how their decisions really impact the story that, not I, but WE want to tell.
Good catch
@Cinderblocksally I’ve been a gaming Grognard since 1980 and my Campaign Paramount that I still run today started in 1986. While you will get many well deserved, merited & sublime compliments for your work here and those in the coming years, may I point out one from this video. That way a most excellent opening musical introduction. I have opened my games with music for decades, ranging from Wagner to Fantasia to theme of the Exorcist and of the Sopranos (for Pirates). Please keep doing this.
And if ever you happen to be in New York, roll dice and have cocktails at my table and I’ll grok you some d6 Star Wars that we have been playing since 1989.
Too kind, too kind!
Visually this video is gorgeous, I can see why it took you so long to get through. Showing some seriously polished editing skills! The actual message though? It's amazing, and one of the best and most flavorful ways I've seen someone teach how to create a universe and become a god.
Coincidentally, it lines up with being a DM too, and can be used to think about how to do that! What a happy accident!
Cinder, this is incredible. Great video man!
Too kind
This is a crowning achievement of tabletop content. I got chills.
Did not know what I expected, but I felt myself hanging on every word and seeking more... just as a player making a character.
We hang together
Youve convinced me ive started saving up to become jesus
Not a bad start
Just wow, that intro! Overall, an amazing video. I was genuinely surprised; you consistently put out really good content, but this was on another level. The Asmongold joke was good too lol
thanks man! and i had to pay respect, you know?
When I worked overnights at a TV station I made a world with all sorts of nuance and nonsense, and I truly loved it. It became the setting for one of the first long form campaigns I ever ran and remains a world I will drop one shots into when I need some lore to go off of and I don’t feel like reading up on someone else’s.
What started as crude shapes on scrap paper with dotted lines for roads and circles for cities, turned into one of my most detailed maps on Inkarnate. Most of the areas haven’t been “seen” by anyone other than myself, but it still feels awesome knowing that I have a functioning society living in the back of my head, forever waiting for more people to grace the potential stories of KindahBahd.
Great stuff Sally, thanks for reminding me to try.
Omfg this is amazing. 😮
Edit: "A beginning, A middle, And an end." That got me rolling.
I did this. my last lesson as a world builder was to create a multiverse everyone can world build in.
Good stories write themselves.
I often create new character and their backstories. But from there ... they just flow on their own
Wow, this is amazing! I had to rewatch it right away, because the video brought back so many of my favourite moments and details in games I played in or worlds I created together with friends.
I really love the variety and quality of content on your channel
Thank you! that means a lot
i find it interesting that, despite the title being 'become god', what you propegate is as much about becoming a kinda part time denizen of the world you create, living in their shoes to understand how they'd act; how they are going to act, and why
also the visual and acustic experience you provided is top notch
Bro, I watched the full length...oh my GOD, it was amazing! You jumped the shark & busted a sick move mid-air. More of this, please.
Amazing - I have a few friends who are just starting DMing and this is a brilliant recap
"10 minutes and 2 seconds in the mind of a DM who's campaign starts in 3 days and forgot about it for a whole month".
-A documentary brought to you by National Cinderblock Geografic.©
This is good. It brings me joy in a way I can't quite express.
Bathe in it
I got into your channel from your shorts, but right from the start I can tell I've been sleeping on your long form content.
Im just starting my first book and i watch this to inspire me. It gets me pumped to continue writing. Just wanted to say thanks.
My favorite D&D character that I made was a warlock who started out with 3 higher levels spells at level one. But he had tourette's. And I had to roll to see if I said the spell right and if I failed. I'd have to roll to see if I accidentally cast a random spell. Made conversations fun also. (had a notebook with 40 words that I'd roll to see what I randomly blurted out)
Ok…had to rewatch, was drifting between realities because of the intro
This video is criminally underappreciated. It's so good. Just thought you should know.
Aww thank ye thank ye
Hard not to say what has already been said, so to put it simply, amazing. Amazing music choice, amazing advice and points. Can't wait for the next one
Having only seen your many shorts, this is NOT what I expected. This was something that’s on par with the best of this strange genre on RUclips of existential questions, while also being a great source for DM’s looking to make their own world… amazing job, sally! ❤❤❤
This vid deserves far more views than it’s getting, loved every second of it 😊
That was simply the best intro to worldbuilding video i have ever seen! Sums everything up perfectly, especially the 'why'. I feel i may revisit this again and again.
I SHOULD be all powerful!. I I'm loving the video so far
I've run two successful campaigns. Work got in the way of continuing the good work. I love it more than playing. Nothing in this was new to me, but your presentation brought it back to life. Your enthusiasm made me miss it again. Your narrative offered new perspective on old knowledge.
(9)Hell(s) Yes.
Amazing video! I had issues keeping focus on what i want or how to progress my Campaign (first time DM) and watching this helped me a BUNCH! ❤
I neeeeded this video, been trying to build a setting for a while but I have always struggled to understand the building blocks. Thank you!
You can do it
Bruh you got my hyped to write in the first 35 seconds.
Hello, Mr. Sally. Your powers of editing are vast and enjoyable. The breadth of media you synchronized to prose is impressive. It lends itself well to the hypnotic cadence. Since leaving academia I've been starved of experimental writing, so your multimedia is a welcome respite.
If you don't mind, I'd like to lobby some friendly criticism. I would argue that the hypnotic themes and tone take away from the informative aspect of the video. I found myself hanging on your every word, not to comprehend your message but your art. While I think it's one of the more powerful aspects of the video, perhaps moving away from synchronizing exact phrases could distract less from your good advice. With that said, I prefer this as a piece of art than an essay.
I could say the same about your channel as a whole. When you speak on broader subjects is when I find myself most enthralled. I appreciate your philosophical offerings to mundane problems and your humor. I hope to see more of it as you further develop your style.
Great video this is the first thing I’ve watched that wasn’t from the shorts channel.
Welcome to the other side
These are the questions that raises the bar to a d20/critical roll level. The intricacies that go into it show love for the game.
Dude, your video was just fine! As a long time tabletop RPG player, I have drawn inspiration from movies and TV shows and games the entire time, and even several of the specific examples you showed clips of. 10 out of 10 I loved it.
One of the best videos you've ever put out! Keep it up man, I love your content!
I take most of this advice, but my biggest problem is that I want to write a slice of life story and all the world building advice i can find all is about how to tie this into your big adventure. I don't want to write a big adventure. I literally just want to write about how these people live. If there's a disaster, the shiro is not the main character. It's a little strange, but I think that fantasy slice of life is a underappreciated sub genre. Hell slice of life in of itself is an underappreciated genre. Given the whole, everything must be the most dramatic epic thing, which means trying to find good information to write. A decent slice of life is hard and I appreciate at the very least that this story provides at least some information on how to like create normal people
The first part of the video speaks pretty directly to building a slice of life story for characters to get invested in.
I think that even in a slice of life adventure - you still need all of these “grand” components, they are just somewhat more grounded and chill.
“Where the land lives on fish” had me crying 😂
Planning on playing a war forged bard who started life out as a dryad. Human father was an artificer and the area where my characters mother's tree was had no suitable tree for them to get bound to. So father went to the strongest Fey creature he could find and together they built me a body. Told the DM that at any point when I level up he can choose for it to be in warlock (favoring archfey pack of the blade for flavor)
This whole things feels surreal and stream of consciousness, but it was clearly very well thought out and put together. Like a paradoxical fever dream. I approve.
We ride down the river together
The amount of views and likes seems criminal for such a good, educational, video. I learned a lot, but it seems like so many others can also learn more, too.
We are at the whim of great algorithms.
I was not sure what to expect from this video but that was awesome advice!
Glad you found something in it!
Dude I swear to me this video is protection.
Genuinely. I mean it. This is so awesome.
We are all protection
@@Cinderblocksally
I'm a little embarrassed. But yes. Let's just go with it.
Great video! I liked you syncing some of your points with the visuals. Also the music was really cool!
Just started listening to Rally. Great stuff!!
love your work ! and love the youtube shorts you make ! cheers !
Danke
You managed to both express your points clearly and have your way with open-ended prompts. You stand in the shoulders of giants, but there you are standing nonethelesss, and your contribution is greatly appreciated. Great video, two thumbs up, I needed this.
Holy crape, You work fast. You even got my name in it!
Yo... That was the best intro I've ever seen...
We trying out here!
I guess the real god was the stories we told along the way
💁♂️
Way better than therapy! ❤
This is… genuinely amazing
Love the intro song
The production value of this video essay is incredible, well done, Cinder, very well done.
Thanks man!
A wonderful topic with a strong presentation.
Dude! Super psychedelic loved the art. Loved the video.
Thanks!!!
Wicked Awesome, thank you Cinder.
I don't know what I was expecting, but this was really trippy. I need to look at it at least one more time. =D
just got here from your homebrew stream, you were right this video is excellent, editing is so good
welcome
Great video, however the next one needs at least 3 more clips from Step Up. Perhaps even from Step Up 2: The Streets
A fair critique
Damn this was amazing, Cinder you are way too underrated!
This was a great video
Solid video sally hope to see more of these lover form videos.
Great video omfg! Thanks so much!! ♥️
Yo Cyndaquil this video is awesome. I have a pf2e session tonight that I was feeling kinda 'meh' about. Now I'm pumped. This video was like an adrenaline needle to the heart. A++
yes yes yes. a thousand times yes. I've been running the current campaign for a while now and it seems... evolving. not only have I had and scrapped a thousand ideas, but I felt like the characters have shifted... some have become more complex and some changed in ways that I could not think of. the world has taken on a life of it's own, and my players have been a part of what changes the world, and my expectations for it. the story has gone in unexpected directions, all the while becoming more interesting as it grows; and honestly... it's given me plenty of motivation to keep going.
Thank you for the video 🙏
finally got around to watching this, and ohhh boy. what great video with extremely impressive editing. i can see why this must’ve taken a long time to make :D
That is one and the only thing I like about kids, their imagination.
That's so good.
ahhh this is so good! Thanks for making this :^)
Thank you
Thank you. The universe is meaningful again.
We find meaning together
@@Cinderblocksally Indeed.
Fantastic video. I am Struggling to pin exactly where I heard that intro song before.
In the dreaming
@@Cinderblocksally??? Sorry I mean the beat with the fem vocal sampling that also plays during the credits. It’s no big deal I’m just suffering from some kinda dejavu about it.
@@Teethmafiathe song is called Spooked
@@Cinderblocksally okay, thank you.
@@Cinderblocksally I just realized the place I heard this song was on your short where you “randomly rotate your face.” I feel pretty silly having forgotten.
As an Arizonan I’ll never forget the day that Florence and Fountain Hills were destroyed by the fires of Hell.
Alright fine I’ll get to work on the next chapter for my party
Awesome video! Another person subscribed, and no doubt many more to come.
Mmm... nice video. I'm going to be setting off on my own adventure soon... I've got a setting brewing in my head... I want to mix the Epic of Gilgamesh and The Elder Scrolls Morrowind together and see what spits out.
I really liked your video on world building. I’m wondering what tips and tricks you have for creating the feel of a major city and some of the businesses and landmarks within.
I make a town, a wilderness, and a dungeon with 3 floors.
There's at least a session 1 there.
Wow
All other great things aside,
The videography is amazing 😮
This has opened my eyes.
+1, well done
+1 to you too
Inspiring
This was awesome and beautiful
I wish so much that I could utilize the lessons in this video, but my players aren’t interested in role play or character development. They don’t really care about the world, only that they can feel cool.
great work mister
The extra effort was well spent imo! Sourcing and editing so may different clips is a real pita, but it gets easier to more you do it!
Thanks!!
Amazing video
Too kind, bud
I'm telling my whole town to watch this video
this is a good ass video my man
This was epic
It’s offical I fucking love you.
Your mind is beautiful❤
Thank you for this. This is awesome. I've been thinking about getting my kids into TTRPG, and this was pretty inspirational, to be honest. Any suggestions for systems to use? Both my girls can read at this point (one has to have a little help, but still). I've also been having them roll dice for random things, i.e. Who gets to do a thing first (roll for initiative), if they can have a snack before dinner (give me a persuasion check) etc.
It has some spoilers 😅, but it is an awesome video 🐈
Hello
Time to become god don’t see me in a week
