After watching this video, I started thinking about not only how our brain works, but also different things that happen during the process. I never really paid attention that our brain works in different ways which are called fast and slow. It was very interesting for me that the fully engagement of the slower thinking makes your brain turn almost colorblind. As you are concentrated to an object, which makes you think deeper, thus, your brain ignores other details around it. I did not notice this until after watching the video. In fact, when one sees an object, they can figure what the object is. Although for example the math problem, when you try to solve it, your brain travels from the fast thinking into slower thinking. Thank you for such interesting videos with some great examples.

The fact that we turn colorblind while we are concentrated is mind-blowing. It amazed me that I could not notice the changes you have made when solving the problems. This was an exciting way to explain this topic.
For all those who find the BAT and BALL problem confusing: 1) The bat costs 1 dollar more than the ball. 2) Everything has to cost 1.10 dollars. A) The bat costs 1.00 dollar and the ball costs 0 cents. = 1.00 dollars - 1) is fulfilled - 2) is not, because the result is not 1.10 dollars B) The bat costs 1.00 dollar and the ball costs 10 cents = 1.10 dollars - 1) is not fulfilled because the difference is 0.90 dollars - 2) is fulfilled We need to find a way to add 10 cents to THE DIFFERENCE without compromising THE RESULT of B). The only way is to take OUT 5 cents from the ball and put them INTO the price of the bat. In this way we have: C) The bat costs 1.05 dollars and the ball costs 5 cents. = 1.10 dollars - 1) is fulfilled - 2) is fulfilled Of course, C is the ONLY correct result, B is the result of fast thinking for most people, and A...that should not even be an answer :)
I think of it like this: A bat and a ball costs 1.10$ Bat+Ball=1.10$ The Bat costs 1 Dollar more than the Ball Bat=1$+Ball So, (1$+Ball)+Ball=1.10$ 1$+2Ball=1.10$ 2Ball=0.10$ Ball=0.05$
I spent 3 days in jail because the police station clerk read my pistol permit as a "B" instead of "13" so later that night I was arrested for possession of an unregistered firearm... Nobody had that serial number, it didn't exist.
@@garfield4154 No it's true. If you write 1 and 3 close together then some people see it as letter B. I wish it wasn't true and the court still made me pay a $500 fine with it still on my record: improper transportation of a firearm. I bought the handgun that same morning that I was arrested!

I have a burning question. I'm an AP Psychology teacher, and there are a ton of resources to help students understand the differences between neurotransmitters. However, my question is: Can you please create one of these amazing short videos that give so much information to break down the differences between the dominant neurotransmitters described in so many Intro to Psych textbooks? If I could find a way to get them to understand them more quickly without burning so much class time, that would be amazing. My class is open to all, so many students don't need the guided support. But, many of my students are taking AP level courses for the first time, and what better class then AP Psychology to give it a go? No, but I feel it substantially decreases our attention spans, causing us to invest less time, therefore making us less productive and more prone to procrastination. ( which basically means, we desire short term, immediate pleasure more than long term, long lasting pleasure ) this is a dire situation because most things that give you immediate pleasure aren't really good for you. It's not that our brains are working too slow but rather too fast. We can't focus on one thing because we are so used to having multiple things going on at once, so your brain switches focus to several things, each time lessening your overall dedication to whatever you are doing.

First of all I never said I was Christian. Second, I just think that is common sense to know a little bit about other cultures, beliefs, and ways of life. Shouldn't you know that to decide what you want to believe in and value? I apologize if I came off as rude or "ignorant" with that comment. My native language isn't English so I didn't know that could be seen as a negative thing to say.
At the end of all your videos you say if we have a question to ask... well... could you show us How the brain works in an ADHD person versus a "normal" person? I've always wondered why they have a much harder time focusing. Help?
I have had ADHD since I was in 3 grade I'm a senior in high school now, but anyways ADHD is considered a learning disability due to the fact that I have to concentrate on,lets say a math problem, for longer than what you do because I can become more easily distracted, the medication such as Adderall slows the over thinking process and allows me not to become so easily distracted but because of the meds I for the longest time had to be put in a class with students with learning disabilities. so basically a person with ADHD like me, the brain works in overdrive because of the fact that I get easily distracted and my mind never stops over thinking
Just bought the book. Thanks ASAP SCIENCE! Binge watching your videos while eating carrots. Please don't EVER stop educating and blowing my mind. Also, I want to support your channel. Let me know how I can invest in such an amazing channel.
Legendarymark112 It's probably because your brain thinks in words and numbers. That's another thing that changes from person to person. Some people visualize something with context to help better understand. While others take the numbers and letters given and that helps them better understand. And why people think differently depends on which side of their brain is dominant. If you saw pictures or associated the text with something you have seen, your right brain is dominant, whereas if you just used the words and letters given to you, your left brain is dominant. :) does this help?

The whole Moses and Ark thing is similar to dreaming! Our frontal lobes are inactive at first glance like when dreaming odd things and accepting them. Then we wake up realizing the dream was irrational.
Well, I definitely saw A13C. But I do a lot of software programming as a hobby, and deal with hex data. Because of this I can do hexidecimal math quite easily, and I subconsciously converted that to decimal. The second I saw it, I thought "Why on earth is there the number 41276", then realized what I did. XDDD
Like Commentator said, I did indeed mean A13C as in individual hexidecimal digits. www.binaryhexconverter.com/hex-to-decimal-converter Try A13C, it's indeed equal to 41276.
If he said the bat was $1 more than the ball, the answer couldn't be that the ball was 10¢ because then the bat would be 90¢ more not $1. But if you make the ball 5¢ then the ball is $1 more
+TRDOAndyRocks I read that too. I'm not used reading B written that way, so I automatically read A13C. Maybe we think outside the box. I know that usually when there's a thought that can be interpreted in two different ways but 80% of people interprete it one way, I'm always in the 20%, so I think differently and have another type of logic when it comes to interprete things and stuff.
+AmyRxcks I was like " A then uhmm 1 and 3?, is that supposed to be a B? no that's clearly a 1 and a 3" And then the whole explanation followed then I was like "meh".
UnicornOnRainbows 101 's answer is pretty vague. It took me a bit to understand as well, so I'll try to help explain. We want to say the bat is worth $1 and the ball is worth 10¢, but if the bat is worth "one dollar more than the ball", that would make the bat worth $1.10. 1.10+0.10=1.20. The only way we can solve this problem with the bat being $1 more than the ball is if the ball is 5¢ and the bat is $1.05. 1.05+0.05=1.10. I was pretty angry that I got this wrong so it makes me feel better to help explain it lol
Me too. I also interpreted "bank" in the "river bank" sense. I guess the word "approached" is what did it for me. No one approaches a money bank, they go to the bank.
oh my god, I seriously am laughing throughout the whole video of my own dumbness, especially the Moses Noah thing........u guys did a good job on making me feel stupid
Thank you for the interesting video, I enjoyed it. As it contains a lot of information it's a little hard to keep up at times; I think it could be significantly improved by giving people a tiny bit more time between concepts to take it in.
+Blobfish :D me too, im not a genius at doing math problems like that quickly but it was so close to 20 that i just did 10 x26(just add a 0) added it to itself then subtracted 26 of course this only took around 3-4 seconds
I’m good at math so I’m gonna explain how I solve these:19x26 I +1 to the 19 so it’s 20 and I multiply it to the 26 which easy because it’s x2 plus a zero at the end.20x26 is 520 and then I munes the 26 I added at the beginning which makes it 520-26 and the answer is 494 It doesn’t take that long.hope it helps you
Hey didn't Veritasium make this video with the same explanation sequence and examples years after this video was released? I know that facts and science are not copied, but even the examples are the same... Correct me if I'm wrong

+Thahany Najim are... Are you 12?
+Grace Nern I had to lay out a page of math to get the bat and the ball
actually i didnt notice that the moses arch one was wrong because i don't know shit about religion
That is kind of sad...
Igna Powers well it actually isn't, if you don't care to learn something and would rather put your time into something else, how is that sad? if you would rather learn spanish than french, is that also sad?
Want to reply that I agree, but scared that my Google plus will be filled with replies for years to come of religious arguments bc they always need to justify their bs
RSMegaMillions how does not knowing religion make you sheltered?
First of all I never said I was Christian. Second, I just think that is common sense to know a little bit about other cultures, beliefs, and ways of life. Shouldn't you know that to decide what you want to believe in and value? I apologize if I came off as rude or "ignorant" with that comment. My native language isn't English so I didn't know that could be seen as a negative thing to say.
I saw A13C. It doesn't look like a B because the lines aren't connected.
I read AC130 the 1st time i saw it...ive ben playing too much COD...

Let me fix that for you *EAT SOAP*
Yes, I noticed that the numbers and colours changed.
0:15 I instantly freeze and forget my own name
1:14 Am now catatonic and rocking back and forth
(I was really fun to teach math to!)
There is a very similar book that I am reading at the moment. It is called Thinking, Fast and Slow. I highly recommend it! 😁
Edit: I just realised and got to the point in the video where he mentions this book. Srry yall.
Just bought the book. Thanks ASAP SCIENCE! Binge watching your videos while eating carrots. Please don't EVER stop educating and blowing my mind. Also, I want to support your channel. Let me know how I can invest in such an amazing channel.

Legendarymark112 lol same
Legendarymark112 Same, not till he said something about it
Legendarymark112 because you where already stunned by his first explenation you couldn't follow his explenation any more.
The last one I thought "Wash soup." I don't know why... Actually, maybe it's because I'm hungry.

wait, I'm still figuring out how the ball costs 5cents.
Well, that is exactly it. If the ball was 10cents and the bat was 1$ more, the bat would be 1$ 10cents, and the combined price would be 1$ 20cents.
ball=x, bat =1.00+x. ball + bat=1.10 --> 1+2x=1.10 --> 2x=0.10 --> x= 0.05
if the bat is a dollar more than a 10c ball, then you must assume that the ball is 5c and the bat is just $1 more then 5c
That took me 15min. and I still wasn't getting it till I read the above. And I score very high on IQ tests… Upward of 160. I blame the english language! :)
that was one of the only ones i new stright away..XD

The whole Moses and Ark thing is similar to dreaming! Our frontal lobes are inactive at first glance like when dreaming odd things and accepting them. Then we wake up realizing the dream was irrational.
Education is very important the more you learn it the more you feel you need to learn more.
Ok enough of these, this one broke my brain

3:20 what happens if u see A13C??
It means that you have an alternate mind
Well, I definitely saw A13C. But I do a lot of software programming as a hobby, and deal with hex data.
Because of this I can do hexidecimal math quite easily, and I subconsciously converted that to decimal.
The second I saw it, I thought "Why on earth is there the number 41276", then realized what I did.
XDDD
***** he means the digits A 1 3 C. You don't know Jack Schitt, do you?
Like Commentator said, I did indeed mean A13C as in individual hexidecimal digits. www.binaryhexconverter.com/hex-to-decimal-converter Try A13C, it's indeed equal to 41276.
3:20 what happens if u see A13C??

xD I just choked on my water! Lmfao
Lol
Someone explain the bat and ball to me please..
If he said the bat was $1 more than the ball, the answer couldn't be that the ball was 10¢ because then the bat would be 90¢ more not $1. But if you make the ball 5¢ then the ball is $1 more
Remember total is $1.10
5+1.00= 1.05 (bat)
1.05 + 5c (ball) = 1.10
Ok I get it now but it took me a while, maybe bc I suck at math
***** or because you're american
I read that as A13C. Is this normal
Same lol
+AmyRxcks I was like " A then uhmm 1 and 3?, is that supposed to be a B? no that's clearly a 1 and a 3"
And then the whole explanation followed then I was like "meh".
+TRDOAndyRocks
same hahaha
Me too. I never even considered of reading that as a B
I have a question, which part of brain is responsible for self esteem and how can we increase it.
I don't get how the baseball is 5 cents. Can someone explain?
ibkillah cos if the ball is 10cents and the bat is 1.10 then both together is 1.20
UnicornOnRainbows 101 's answer is pretty vague.
Jake Collins - Brilliant. Thanks a lot your answer was really easy to break down.
I finally get it now :)
making use of algebra helps.
ball+bat=1.10 its given bat=1D+ball
so, 1+ball+ball=1.10
2ball=0.10
ball=.5 cents
x+1 + x =1.10
2x=.10
x=. 5

At 3:20 I actually saw A13C and was like dafuq!
Me too. I also interpreted "bank" in the "river bank" sense. I guess the word "approached" is what did it for me. No one approaches a money bank, they go to the bank.
seth094978 thats a lie anybody who goes to the bank have to approach the bank before they go in
Dgilly17 Yes, I know, I know, but I was trying to explain how I think, not be totally literal. Give me a break. I didn't lie about what I thought.
3:23 I actually did read it as A13C for the first time I’m weird I guess
oh my god, I seriously am laughing throughout the whole video of my own dumbness, especially the Moses Noah thing........u guys did a good job on making me feel stupid
Im so stressed out n my brains tired after this :-O u worked me hard!!
Thank you for the interesting video, I enjoyed it. As it contains a lot of information it's a little hard to keep up at times; I think it could be significantly improved by giving people a tiny bit more time between concepts to take it in.
I'm working on that lol
Hello! I'm a new subscriber!!❤️
I solved the math problem...
In a few seconds...
+Blobfish :D me too, im not a genius at doing math problems like that quickly but it was so close to 20 that i just did 10 x26(just add a 0) added it to itself then subtracted 26 of course this only took around 3-4 seconds
+Krepedo I think like that two
+Jack Owen see what I did there lol
520 - 26, took me 10 seconds
Try asking someone to quickly name what a cow drinks. Their fast-thinking brain will immediately make them say milk.
I read it as a 13 c and 12 13 14 because when i think of B the lines have to be touching...
I’m good at math so I’m gonna explain how I solve these:19x26
I +1 to the 19 so it’s 20 and I multiply it to the 26 which easy because it’s x2 plus a zero at the end.20x26 is 520 and then I munes the 26 I added at the beginning which makes it 520-26 and the answer is 494
It doesn’t take that long.hope it helps you

2:15 can someone tell me how it's not 10 like how tf r we suppose to know that the bat was 1.5 smh
