- I finally got out for a Solo BackCountry camping trip and was able to record it for you guys! I headed north to the White Mountains National Forest to spend a night out in my tent. I camped along a beautiful brook and enjoyed a camp fire while feasting on some Good To Go backpacking meals that Ive been loving lately! (Not Sponsored haha) In the morning I swam in the Ammonoosuc River before ending the trip. I plan on making more camping videos like this in the future if you guys like them. I hope that you enjoy the nature and wildlife footage. Thanks for watching!
Loved this video! My goal for this summer is to do my first over night in the woods, instead of a campground! If I were stranded for a weekend, I'd probably pick an album by The Lumineers or Jon and Roy, something like that. But if I were stranded forever, I'd pick a big long intricate classical album because I'd get sick of words really fast 🤣
Sweet video. I'm always down for a 4 day survival adventure.
Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon for sure. Great video. I was actually backcountry camping off the Mt Tri Pyramid trail that same day. It was so humid!
Very cool!
Wow! I picked my music then looked at the comments. What a coincidence.
Good to see fellow youtubers in the white mountains of new hampshire! There aren’t a lot of us.
Thank you for watching!
I just found this video. Exceptional job! My artist for the isolation spot is Kenny Chesney. Keep your adventure spirit, it made my morning brighter.
Great video. Would love to see how you pack for a trip.
Thank you! I can put a video like that together sometime :)
You should do a fly fishing trip in the white mountains some time and do a catch and cook. Love your vids keep up the good work
Second comment about a catch and cook.. seeing a theme here hehe I'll have to get my NH license. I haven't gotten into fly fishing yet but I want to at some point! Thanks for watching!
Bon Iver For Emma Forever ago. love Ben Howard great choice! also great too see your respect for the land and know you will make a positive influence on other backcountry users.
Thank you for the kind comment! and Bon Iver for Emma is actually another one of my favorites!
Awesome video, I just recently got into camping, but I am not brave enough to do backcountry camping just yet, I just stay at campgrounds, I would love to see a video from you about how to stay safe during a backcountry trip, bears, humans, etc,.
I can do that at some point :) You are wise to not jump into it, my recommendation would be to go with someone who does it regularly first. Solo trips are fun but can get really dangerous fast if you become careless
I'd like to go to a place like that. I live in NH. Do you know of any similar places further south? I live on the MA border.
Great video! Did this a few years back with 3 of my buddies. So excited to get back out there this season! Also the album I’d bring is The Impossible Kid by Aesop Rock
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing and in answering your question about one album to bring camping ⛺️ Pink Floyd The Wall.
You bet!
Did a 10 day solo in the G Smokies, but my favorite places are in the Whites, the smell of balsams just before coming out on the open granite ledges.
Nothing like it in the world! Thanks for watching!
Very nice man, bring the rod next time and catch and cook meals ! Badass either way man !
I still haven't done any catch and cook videos so I will have to do that! Glad you enjoyed the video!
BackCountryBob let me go with you this way I will eat the fish lol
@@ShootStraight84 haha hey man I would be down for a trip together at some point!
Im already 1 minute in and I had to apply bug spray while watching this.
Wow, Pink Floyd takes the win in the comments, great choice. I'd take Allah-las. Good video Bob. Hope to run into you someday.
Frank Sinatra " REPRISE" I'm old LOL
i listen to AC/DC back in black. meatloaf bat out of hell and a few sappy love songs.
what river is this? Looks amazing!! Im from Maine and love exploring like this. Great vid!!!
Its the Wild Ammonoosuc River in NH! I love Maine! Can't wait to be able to travel up there more once covid stuff is done. Thanks for watching
Nice video beatles greatest hits Q: how do you know where you can park the car?
Can't go wrong with some beetles! I use online maps to see where the white mountains land is and try to find parking inside of that area, you can always check with the forest service NH state parks if you are not sure
I'm trying to get into backpacking/camping and this is exactly what I want to do. Just park somewhere and head into the woods. Not so far I get lost but far enough to be away from the road and people.
I'm in the process of doing hw on and ordering gear.
Next is to figure out where and when to go camping up in the white mountains just like this.
Any pointers for someone new?
I would start by camping in one of the parks backcountry style. Lincoln woods is my personal favorite and would be my recommendation. Its absolutely gorgeous and you can take the main trail in along the Pemigewasset River and then there will be a sign that lets you know you are clear to backcountry camp.
Don't go in far off the trail if you are by yourself because its surprisingly easy to get lost, use flagging tape to find your way back to the main trail if that makes you feel better just make sure to remove it when you leave. Always let someone know your trip plans and where you are going as well. Whenever I go I always give people detailed info on my plans and when I'll be back.
I would start when the weather gets warmer in say.. June, July. Winter camping is a lot harder and requires different usually more expensive gear, if you know someone who does it then go with them and borrow gear.
I would recommend the Osprey Talon 44 for a pack, its one of the best packs out there imo and a great balance between price, weight, durability and comfort. (Its the pack i'm using in this video)
I was super fortunate to have a brother who took me under his wing and taught me about camping in the whites and I went many many times with people before I started doing solo stuff.
Hope this helps!
@@namedJustBob thank you for the info!
Bob I’m in new Hampshire. Gonna do a lot of backpacking this year. New to the area. How worried do I need to be for black bear?
Hey Garett sorry for the late response, I wouldn't be worried at all. You would be lucky to see one to be honest, they can smell you far sooner than you can see them and they are scared of people. Campgrounds can be a little bit more of an issue because they get used to people and food being there but even then I wouldn't worry. At night when I'm sleeping I always remind myself the forest looks the exact same during night as during the day :) Hope this helps! Welcome to the area!
I just checked their website last night and saw they don’t allow fires in the backcountry 😞. I was hoping to take my kids out and do something like this but without a fire it would be kinda lame hahaha
Certain times of the year they place fire bans depending on the moisture levels, hope you can find a spot! (Sorry for the late response)
Camping without a fire feels wrong.
Definitely some good Pink Floyd.
Good choice!
Can you camp anywhere in the white mountains
It would depend on my mood for sure. But right now Tears of fears.
ELVIS , THE WAY IT IS
I don't listen to a lot of Elvis but I can dig that
Do you need a permit? Are you allowed to just go camp anywhere and have a fire? Is this in the National Forest?
No permit needed in the white mountains national forest but check with the rangers on fires, I think there is a ban up there until first now right now
Keep in mind that in the WMNF you are required to camp at least 200 feet from trail or water when backcountry camping.
It's not all the same rules, there are multiple different wilderness areas within that all have special and unique rules that make up the white mountains. Some areas are not wilderness and have the reg 200 foot rules etc.
Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
Essential SRV or Johnny Cash FPB
Where did u park and swim?
i'll never tell!! :D Its a spot along the Ammonoosuc river I can tell you that much
Fine Line by Harry Styles
I can get down with some Harry
nice spot, music be The Beatles Revolver
Thank you and beatles I like it!
Do you know any website or Facebook group where i can find camping partners ? Idk if it's safe for me To do it alone, plus it'd be my first time in the us
I know there are some guiding companies in the white mountains, you could reach out to red line guiding and they may know of someone or groups. I'm not part of any groups myself so I am not completely sure
You do realize that you shouldn't be setting up camp that close to the water. Probably should look up the rules to camping in the Whites...
THIS!!! And it was just the first of SO MANY THINGS in this video that damaged my soul.
This is a topic that I would love a video on! Someone please make a vid on the breaks down of the rules camping in the whites (PLEASE) 🙏
Hye Kevin, I'll have to do some more reading about this. From my understanding and from what I've been told was that you cannot camp 200 feet from water bodies such as ponds, rivers and lakes but small streams can be ok depending on the location in the white mountains. My main reasoning for camping near the stream was to have a water source for drinking/cooking and to make sure I had a source to properly douse my fire when I was finished with it. There were no fire bans at the time and I was not in an alpine zone or any of the designated areas where fires are prohibited on the National Forest website. I have never had any issues with Fish and game or rangers when camping near small streams or in the white mountains in general. I practice leave no trace and work very hard to respect the land and wildlife in the white mountains. I don't cut green wood, clean up my fire pits and disperse the remnants and make it looks like I was never there. I appreciate the comment though and I will do some more reading on this. The White mountains are a large resource for everyone to enjoy and I respect that you want it to be taken care of :)
Hi Kel, would you mind elaborating a bit more on this? I've responded to Kevin above, thanks for watching!
Are you a narc? Leave the kid alone.
If I had to choose just one album, my initial instinct is to listen to no music at all. But, if I was forced to choose...I guess I simply couldn’t go wrong with “Legend” by Bob Marley.
Good choice!
I live in Rhode Island. If I go there can I bring my gun so I can hunt as well ?
You would have to check online or with fish and game, I'm not up to date on the firearms laws sorry
no hassle car not towed nothing?
nope, if you are nervous about a spot you can always check in with the local PD or sherifs and let them know where you have it parked but there are loads of spots in the whites.
I would bring pink Floyd, how did you choose this dispersed camping?
nice! and how to I choose a spot? like location in the woods or overall?
So to answer your question about music it would be Fleetwood Mac -Rumors. Also where along the ammonoosuc are you camped? Might take my girlfriend up there
Love me some fleetwood mac! Its kinda hard to describe where it is to be honest but there are loads of spots along the ammon to backcountry camp, just make sure you check the map so you are in the whites
Great video. Thank you. But you Backpackers in bushcrafters drive me nuts. I live in Massachusetts where camping is practically forbidden. I wish I knew how to find good spots like this in New Hampshire Vermont and Maine. But obviously you don't want to give up spots publicly. I wish you could send me a message to tell me how you find these gems.
The entire white mountains is basically open to what I just did haha
Everything is illegal in Massachusetts.
