      Everyone has a different tolerance for dark humour. That being said - most of the people who aim their jokes in the direction you are describing don't think about it deeper than "I saw this funny meme with goofy sound" and can't process the real events that took place. I think they view it on the same level as a movie or game scene.
      I understand your decisions to moderate these.

    You can see they were inspired by Subnautica a LOT with this set. the main sub reminds me a lot of the Cyclops, just massively downscaled, like the overall shape, the rotor configs, the cockpit. the mech also kinda reminds me of the prawn suit a tiny bit, though that has a full body cockpit, not one like the mech in this set.
    I do think it's silly the sub can't hold all 6 minifigures, but it still looks cool.

  • @craigbikes8831
    @craigbikes8831 Год назад +102

    you'd need a MASSIVE surface support vessel for this to be operated as as submersible. For that reason I prefer to think of it as a standalone submarine that was not intended to be carried by another vessel. Although I'm sure we will see some massive epic MOCs from folks who like deep sea builds capable of carrying this submarine/submersible :)

    I can't help myself, but I love these exploration themed sets! Arctic, space, deep sea - these have adventure, technology, mystery - what else could you possibly want?

    Lego should have included a different part of the sunken ship with each of these sets. That would make the price more reasonable and it would give us an incentive to collect all of these sets.

  • @AHYL88
    @AHYL88 Год назад +11

    This set overall is so much larger than I expected it to be; it's a still a bit expensive but not too outrageously so that I can understand why it's priced where it is now that there's proper context seeing it built and having it in front of you. And there's quite a number of large pieces as well. It's not my thing and not likely something I'll go for but it's a lot cooler than the pictures show, which granted I didn't pay too much attention to. That sub looks so awesome too!
    About general pricing of sets, I only recently learned through comments on a review on brickset when I mentioned Technic isn't that popular in the UK outside of hefty discounts, that almost all Technic sets above $100 in the US is sold through Lego only. So you're not wrong to review and judge sets at full price as not everywhere is as lucky or privileged. And we have to beat about the prices, even if it's repetitive in of itself, especially as we're getting more sets that are really expensive while lacking in size like the Peter Pan and Wendy's Flight Over London set. That's smaller and more expensive than the Up House in some countries too.

    Looking at this makes me think back to the Coast Guard sets from when I was a kid, and man are these newer City sets so much more detailed. You can tell LEGO was still recovering from their early 2000s shakeup when I was growing up. City’s not my theme anymore, but looking at a lot of the newer stuff is incredible. I’ll always be nostalgic for the late 2000s early 2010s City, but kids today have a great spin on the theme. Keep up the excellent reviews Jang!

What will eventually be my own dedicated Lego room is nearly ready to start being used (just need to finish the paint and carpeting). I've collected up a number of moon crater plates, still have my 'Neptune Discovery Lab' that's been sitting in a moving box for 25 years and have been actively collecting up underwater and exploration ships/sets for some time now. Jang, thanks for opening my eyes about prices in other countries. Here in Slovakia, we are one of those privileged countries where we usually have a 20% discount on the day of launch, and after a few months you can find a 30% discount on many sets. A few sets are exclusive to the Lego store, and there it always hurts when I have to buy a set at full price.

    • @GlowingTrashPanda99

    It bothers me they keep giving the sharks the “angry eyes” especially when just this wave they had the hammerhead with normal eyes with no aggressive eyebrow. I get kids like the scary and intimidating sharks but they’re not that in real life. And Lego should more realistically and consistently depict sharks across their sets. They’re not angry or consciously malicious. They just are, anyway I love the terrain build and the sharks and sea life included, just wish that Lego would be consistent and stop with the “sharks are angry and scary” narrative.

    I'm a massive sucker for submersibles ever since the deepsea theme lego had in the 90s. I got quite a few of those themed sets so this is another great addition to the sub fleet. Though it does break with the otherwise consistent yellow sub color. And it isn't all that bad. Especially if you put it next to the big ship. The color schemes being the same. I imagine it just goes into port alongside the bigger vessel.
    I would love to see more of this theme, perhaps a smaller more modest ship and perhaps a sub half this size.

    I managed to get it for like 90 on Amazon. Granted, I had to wait a year, but it did eventually drop to a fairly reasonable price.
    The one thing I felt the sub could have used (and which I am adding) is a small sail. Even little exploration submersibles still have these in a lot of cases, and while it is an extra 'waste' of like 10 parts, I think I might have happily traded a bit of the rock formation for one.

    This is a great set! It has so much fun things. I have a friend quite knowledgeable in marine biology, so she definitely would love a set like this, especially for the sharks. Although, I think it could have been divided into 2 sets rather than being a huge one.
    Central and South America have it rough when talking about LEGO. In my country (Costa Rica), expect not only prices being at least double the said ones in these videos, but actually coming late to stores after their releases :/ When I was in Japan, I became so surprised LEGO there was waaaay cheaper, and I ended buying more sets than I initially thought adquiring.
    However, LEGO discounts here are more or less common, so you can buy sets with good offers, normally between 20 and 40% of discount. It's rare to find a set with 50% of discount (it's usually only when buying a second set) or even higher.
    So, yeah, I'm with you, Jang: if you can obtain LEGO for even cheaper prices than said in these videos, feel fortunate.

    Not everybody knows about the discounts. Even if they were global. Many places don't hade a Lego store and some don't even have access to shop at home.

      I live in South America and besides the fact prices increase 30% from the US msrp out of the distance, there are also almost never any discounts. A certain shop still has the Star Wars constraction figures for Rey and Finn and still to this day refuses to discount them.

    I kind of wish that the underground terrain bit would be a lot smaller, and the pieces were used on the submarine itself.
    That would allow for a larger sub with more interior space.

    What a fun and creative set. The hidden shark is a nice touch.

    It would look great with the Atlantis colors scheme.

    The interior of this looks really nice, would’ve been cool if they included a screen in it that shows the outside

    I totally agree with you full stop regarding the prices etc…
    As long as Lego feel that the public support their price points they will continue to do this…. Your point is exactly the correct one. Without recognition or without media calling them out we will continue to suffer. Yes people can get cheap prices at some point, at some cost or loss but not everyone does and why should we wait for two years until Lego decides they dont want it

    Sub and shipwreck is one of my favorite lego set recipes. I don’t know if I’ll go for this one because its so very extremely deluxe but I’m tempted
