I love the look and durability of the 2nd gen's. I just rolled mine off a bank and smacked into a tree like 15 feet down, but it still drives just fine.
Greetings! It's the 3VZ-E 3.0L V6. I try to stay on top of the regular maintenance schedules as per the factory service manual. Fluids, filters, bushings, and joints mostly.
I am a fan of the 1st (83 - 89) and 2nd generation 4Runners (89-95) for how they look and how simple they are. Some would argue their engines are not as good as the 3.4L you see later but I have had very little issues with the 3.0L 3VZ-E even though it lacks power. I find it difficult to fault a stock engine with 500,000 kms on it.
Thanks! We have mainly been playing catch up on regular servicing stuff but she has Rancho 9000xl adjustable shocks, stock rims with KO2s (eventually want 235/85R16 AT3s), Curt Roof Basket which we modified the visor, Bushwhacker fender flares with Husky Mudflaps, deleted the rear sway bar. We hope to one day drop a Cummins R2.8 in her but that will be way down the road.
I’m having an issue with my idle surging after warm up on my 3vze. Narrowed it down to the iacv or the new eBay injectors I just installed. Any chance you could give me some advise on where to go from here?
The only issue we have had idling was a rough idle and stall due to a crack in the intake hose. We just bought a new Dorman one and it fixed the problem. Turned out the movement of the engine while idling or applying gas opened the crack letting more air in which confused the injection system. I don't have any experience yet on the IAVC system but I am doing some digging through the service manuals I have to see what it could be. Found this vid might help. ruclips.net/video/8ZZ2XZ49Qj0/видео.html&ab_channel=PartimeOverland
Do you know what color the interior of your 4runner is? I have literally the same exact car (color and all) and I’m trying to buy a new dash pad cover for it but online there’s like 3 different types of light grey. I know it’s like a slate grey but everything just says grey…

Hey so found the window sticker from our 4runner. Exterior paint specified as Dark Grey but nothing specified for the interior. I'll keep searching though.

What roof rack is that?
Curt roof rack off amazon. My wife and I made the visor and decal.

Our plan if our gasket does go (knock on wood) is to swap the engine with an R 2.8 Cummins.
