Steering Box Adapter Plate | First Gen Cummins
In this video, I will show you how I installed an upgraded steering box adapter plate from Vintage Truck & 4x4. The reason I did this upgrade is to combat the dreaded cracking of the stock adapter plate on the 4x4 or W Series Dodge trucks. The cracking is not that common however, for my own piece of mind, I figured that the plate should be upgraded if I subject the steering system to the jarring conditions of driving on rough BC logging roads. I hope this video provides some feedback and insight to help you decide if this is an upgrade worth doing on your truck.

In this video, I will show you how to swap out your turn signal and brake light bulbs on your Camry with LED replacement bulbs from Auxito. I was sent these bulbs by one of Auxito's representatives to test and review and I have to say, they make a very bright and well built bulb in terms of first impressions. The turn signals are anti-hyper flash that do not require extra resistors. The brake l...

Fuel Filters | First Gen Cummins

My goal from day one with my First Gen was to make it last as long as possible. My buddy Wes and I spent a few months searching the internet for a budget friendly combination of fuel filters that could be easily installed on any truck utilizing the stock fuel system infrastructure. During our research, we discovered that many of the stock fuel filter options only offers 20 - 30 micron absolute ...

How did that belt tensioner hold up for you? Looks like the one from rock auto I had just done one myself and belt and getting a very light squeak not sure why.
It has been working fine so far. No complaints.
So pain in the a$$ in general?
Hopefully less so now that I can reference the video for next time 😂
9/10 if the window won’t open it’s because the rear wiper is out of position.
Agreed
Gorgeous rig
Tip...it😂😂😂
😂
Tip
I think so too.
What a beast
Thanks!
Looks like your limited slip is working!
Haha, need to run some of the tests you did.
All i see is the fender flare that needs a paint job 😂
Also on my list of things to do.
Tip definitely has that nice deep throatiness.
😂
Thanks, that was easy.
Thank you! Do you happen to have a video showing how to set the stations to the numbers?
I don't but I'm pretty sure you just dial the station, press and hold Sel then press the number you want for the preselect. Hope that works.
Thanks for watching!
just figured it out. With radio in you put it in station you want, then “SET” then push the number 1 thru 5. Like your channel. Thanks again
Not a First Gen Dodge, that would be an 1890s or early 1900s Dodge Brothers which was Canadian back when it was part of the British Empire
First generation with the 5.9 Cummins Diesel to be more specific. Would love to have an even older dodge one day.
Mint!
She's a sweet rig for sure!
If you can't dodge it, ram it ! 😂
The first Gen of crap dodge made with a diesel
Talk to us in the next 30 years when she's still on the road 😂

Junk

Junk? How? Because is doesn’t have 100 fragile computers in it?
@@AppleUploader : Watch his name "Tha Boss" ...12 years old, moms computer .... knows nothing, has a bike ...
That’s a nice looking truck. Auto manufacturers should take a step back.
Agreed. It's hard to beat a classic.
Beautiful
Only one over ever seen.
Ummm, easy on the grease. No need to apply to rear of pad. Only where pad touches caliper. The clips you're trying to protect from rust are quality stainless.
Absolutely 💯 👍 great looking truck
She's a classic! @ovensgarage
Heck yeah!! We need to do more summer cruising!
Agreed! Need to get all 3 trucks back together again.
4:28, I think I spotted Bigfoot!!! 🤣
Never take off steering wheel to fix this do it with steering wheel in correct position then do it from adjustments underneath
Where would you make the adjustments? The wheels were already aligned so I didn't want to touch the tie rods at all. Just curious where you would make the adjustment for the steering wheel. Thanks.
Point is dude wtf sets alignment at tie rods without straight steering wheel???? That’s just stupid. Now you want to take off steering wheel because you made that mistake in the first place🤣 you might find you’ll hit something underneath now
Thanks for your response. Let's say you are right, how would you have done it differently so others can learn?
Oh I’m right smart arse because taking off steering wheel for wheel alignment is ridiculous. You align steering wheel first that’s how you do it not just how I’ve done it. That way you never need to take off steering wheel which on done cars can be 5 hours with clock springs and god knows what other security and airbag problems. Also you run the risk of steering gear binding on shockers brakes springs etc the way you’ve done it. Bloody dangerous actually
Gang
Do you know what size is the hub socket?
54mm I think. Link in the description if you need more info.
Been saying mAzda 3 like a Canadian now, love it haha
Haha right on!
Haha right on!
How much did it cost
All in was 925 CAD around 3 years ago. Not sure what the systems cost now since they changed names to Mel's Manufacturing.
@roughcutsgarage ah OK. Thanks for replying. That'll take a while to save up for
@@outlawwill5483 No problem, keep in mind though, the system I ordered was all stainless with the muffler. You can save a few hundred dollars going with the aluminized system that does the same thing.
Fram is a junk filter. I used to be a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the Pacific North West, we used Wix, and that is the only oil filter I will use.
Agreed. It's just what I had at the time.
This video is gold to me and any owner of a 2nd Gen 4runner who didn’t already know any of this. Thank you.
High praise thank you!
Thanks so much - my speedo cable doing the same thing when it gets cold, 40-ish degrees(F) or less. I see that as recent as 5 mo ago your problem persists, and you're considering different oil: I might recommend a thin oil with silicone, Like "Liquid Wrench with silicone", or a favorite of mine: "CRC Food Grade Silicone" (green can w/silver top). Read their product sheet. VERY versatile and excellent lubricant used across variety of industries, won't degrade, very slippery, safe on rubbers and plastics, and a very thin non-gooey oil to permeate tight tolerance machine parts. Additionally Its my go-to for lubricating all rubber window seals (esp that rear hatch window!), to prevent sticking and excessive wear on motors. I use it on all my vehicles. Also improves squeaky or sticky windshield wipers. (When you apply it, and rub your fingers together you'll see how extremely slippery it is.). When I get around to fixing my Runner - I'll use both the CRC Food Grade silicone (food grade better heat resistance) AND might also follow-=up w/ some of the Liquid Wrench version (doesn't seem to evaporate like the CRC; but frankly I don't think that's a problem as the CRC will permeate the cable if I spray it on/in there liberally for a drive like you showed, and if it ever fully evaporates inside that cable - the silicone remains. (WD-40 specialist now has a version too with silicone, and they offer a nice write-up.) I need to finish some research on whether (CRC silicone) it would be a good oil to spray on all wiring harnesses (esp underbody) exposed to our Northeast salt winters. (It does have waterproofing properties as well). Anyone out there with any experience using it for that?
This is an awesome and informative comment thank you! I love the idea of an oil coating to protect wiring as well. Definitely be looking into this further for my other vehicles too. Thanks again.
Literally my dream truck
Mine too. 🤙
Would your primary filter even be nessary at that point since this one filters to a finer level of contaminates?
Great question. The short answer is the primary filter is still required. The reason its still required is because it removes the bulk of the debris and is a full flow filter designed to work inline with the oil system. This allows for all of the oil to be filtered on each cycle through the engine. The bypass filter works in parallel to the system and only takes a small percentage of the oil on each cycle to filter that small percentage to 2 microns. This allows for you to either prolong the life of your oil (reduced frequency in oil changes) or gives your engine cleaner oil when keeping with the normal schedule further reducing wear. Hope this answers your question 👍
@roughcutsgarage Thank you, that makes sense.
"Semi-circular piece of metal" It's called a Woodruff key. Also, it's called a pulley, not a "Flywheel".
My mistake, thanks!
Any notable changes in gear shifting?
Shifting may have felt slightly more smooth but nothing too significant that I can remember.
Good video letting me know the nut size saves me 30 trips to the tool box
I also use the video for the sizes.
@roughcutsgarage still made 30 trips to the tool box though lol
Where do the copper o rings c go???
@11:00 two copper washers, one for each side, go onto the banjo bolt for the high pressure hard line.
Thank you… I took a step back and looked around and found where they went lol… I spent two hours making sure I hadn’t done anything wrong 😂 thanks for this tutorial.
Where did you get your headlights?
Purchased them off of Amazon. Parts are in the description of this video ruclips.net/video/FKrJOkaGovg/видео.htmlsi=IGPQ_rADFk9O-H_k
Que motor tiene? Y que tipo de mantenimiento le das? Saludos desde panamá, exelente video!❤
Greetings! It's the 3VZ-E 3.0L V6. I try to stay on top of the regular maintenance schedules as per the factory service manual. Fluids, filters, bushings, and joints mostly.
Rear break videos
Haha, I did the drums back before I started the channel and haven't had to service them yet. One thing I remember though is to go with the 2 pins that hold the assembly in from a Landcruiser brake kit vs the 4Runner one from Napa. The actually fit.
@@roughcutsgarage thanks bro
MOOG k9422, for the greasable pitman arm, according to Amazon. It has 4.5 stars rating and under $50. I wouldn't trust MOOG for something as critical as the ball joints. But for a pitman arm, not a big deal.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Really helpful
Our pleasure!
Did not get the gloves...😂
Also got it from your link and got a different type... No fan either
Haha yeah I didn't care for the gloves.
Hope the code worked and that you got your discount.
First time I honked my horn I remember rolling my windows down because I could not hear it! I was like: “Is that it? This horn sucks!” 😂
The stock horn on ours was pretty weak. These horns were a big improvement.
My 4Runner has had no issues with the fuel filter. However, I bought a new one since I’ve no idea when the previous owner replaced it. After seeing this, I might just keep that new fuel filter in the tool box for when I feel like mustering up the courage and time to do so. 😅
Yeah probably a good call. Next time I go to do it I think I will just switch everything out for hose.
I went through the exact same thing on my 2WD Pickup. it's still a tooth off on the steering wheel.
@@MrKl1978 Yeah ours probably wasn't perfect but it worked well.
I just purchased a new to me 2nd Gen 4Runner. These videos are going to come in SO handy!
