From Initial D: Second Stage episode 12-13 Songs: Gimme The Night - Dave McLoud Make Up Your Mind - Wain L. Grand Prix - Mega NRG Man Deja Vu - Dave Rodgers
It's crazy, wataru is able to control his unstable turbo Levin on slippery roads without crashing. The faster wataru goes, the less wataru lost control of the turbo spooling, not to mention he was loosing traction in his front tires. When takumi started reving higher, watarus turbo made his excessive wheel spin which is hard to control. He is truly a underated character.
When takumi pulled away in the *2rd round, wataru picked up the pace and stepped harder on the gas causing the tires to slip due to the boost that the turbo, the tires were had even more wear. The car was starting to steer its own and he was able to control it like a slingshot. 5:08 also this scean is cool af
his turbo made like 1.5x more power than the original engine, single turbo. the lag he has to cope with is just insane. he still has to brake tho, and is still fast enough to catch up to the na silvertop. he probably timed his turbo lag
@Real Deal not a real word, but it means that the turbo gives sudden boost of much power. imagine a horsepower curve which tops out at around 115hp, and now with the turbo its at 280hp. all that done within the 5k-7k rpm range, which means a sudden gain of 1.5x extra power
My late father and I watched the whole series and this was his favorite battle . The moment grandprix started he was in the zone watching with excitement. Great memories
yeah no this was 2 men battling out each other and having fun, the other was just a kid having a tantrum and somehow see wings on someone's car. not to mention how it ended was a bunch of bullshit
@@cursory9031Shinji isn’t a very good driver imo, once he loses his preferred line he chokes, he always rely on his driving style, he can’t adapt and as Ryosuke said that when something doesn’t go in the way you want to, you have to adapt in the situation because that’s what makes a great driver. Even in First Stage when Takumi loses his preferred line he can make a comeback. Shinji has the upper hand on his race against Takumi because that’s his home turf and he knows that road in & out and that no brakes when turning won’t work in any other pass. Put him in Shomaru (Wataru’s turf) or Usui (Mako’s turf) and he won’t be able to utilize that because those passes require excellent braking skills.
11:21 One of the most underrated cinematic shots in the series. In fact the whole "Grand Prix" section from 9:30 to 13:40 in this battle was one of the best
When the engine reached a high rev, the high-cam [tuned cam shaft] took effect, unleashed crazy acceleration and power, and Wataru stepped on the accelerator to chase it and activated the turbo, and the boost exploded and chased
Not to mention he was first shifting in 9000 RPM which gave him less power than the engine is supposed to, but as soon as he cranked it on 11000 RPM, The engine gave a boost which led unleash its true power.
0:12 I love this segment, because up until that point, Takumi had no idea how much his beloved AE86 is capable of with her new heart(engine)installed. And here he felt it!
imo this is the best battle in the whole series. two basically monstrous AE86 having a pissed off contest on a dangerous, rundown of a backroad in the middle of nowhere. Going rounds after round. the tension buildup until the crazy final overtake and "De-javu", is just perfect. not to mention the iconic line "make sure to revs up to 11000rpm."✨👌🏼
with the exception of the battle against the s2000 and r34, the rest of the battles were kind of pointless and were like a guaranteed win. Even with Shinji owning Takumi, plot armor just comes in.
Same, honestly I thought I would not see the day Intinal D used Deja Vu in one of there episodes actually, but Load and behold, they did. I felt my heart racing in excitement when I saw that.

This race is by far the best in the series. Not that the others aren't more well thought-out or better animated, but this one was a pure endurance race pushing the cars to their limits aswell as the drivers mentally and physically. It was such a good race
