Does it bother anyone else how under appreciated Tool is, specifically by critics? I know pleasing critics isn't part of their identity in any way as a band, but it's difficult for me when I look at lists like the "500 Greatest Albums Ever" and not one Tool album is included. I know I'm a bit biased but how can you, as a critic, listen to an album like Aenima or Lateralus and not say that those are some of the most well-crafted, produced, performed, and written rock albums ever? Just strange to me. I guess some people just don't understand...shame.
+EccentricSage The Lady Gaga thing you mentioned made me depressed lol. But it does make me glad to know that other people also think that the bullshit big media tries to feed us is just that. Bullshit. This Tool music video, though, is art. It made me cry the first time I saw it, to be completely honest. And that's what art is suppose to do. Make you feel. Make you think.
+Ian 123 I don't get it. Tool have garnered plenty of critical acclaim. The band, their albums and the members of the band get highlighted in top 50/100 lists all the time. Just a quick google search for top albums of the 90's will bring up Loudwire's top 90 hard rock/metal albums of the 90s. Undertow is 37 and Aenima is 6. Revolver magazine has made a couple special edition issues that were solely about Tool.
+Derangedxzombie I think those songs - and even Vicarious - are great/awesome; it's what surrounds them that is questionable. Having said that, "Viginti Tres" is the only track I don't have on my music player, and even if I don't actively listen to "Intension" and "Wings Part1/2", the album is still very strong. I think it just feels like it lacks a bit of unity and flow, but individually the songs are some of their best.
+EccentricSage I agree with 99% of what you said. However, something might be lost in Maynard being present to write the words _as_ the songs are being composed. Whatever might be lost in that, they probably know precisely what would be lacking and know precisely how to "make up" for it, lol. Also, they're probably so "psychically linked" that they don't have to be in each other's presence to write parts that the others will like and add to. I do feel however, that usually (not in Tool's case) bands' first releases are their best simply because they were hungrier; they're music has to be what will carry them through to their next phase. As they age, the emphasis on their music drops as other things in their life gain importance. With Tool, this dropping of emphasis would have translated into less qualitative releases had they just went ahead and released whatever they had...but Tool took has definitely taken their sweet time to ensure quality control, lol.
I believe the albums stand on their own. Time flows and minds grow. In the end, I trust their music rings true with their collective experiences in those moments. Thank you, TOOL!
Honestly the last "triad" of songs on the album (disposition, reflection, triad) is one of the greatest things i've heard. I Hope they release a 20th anniversary edition of Lateralus or at least a live blu ray from that era some time soon because that tour was amazing.
lmaooo wtf is good with the guy doin the interview? Hes constantly making accusations about how they feel. Especially the very last comment. that was absurd.
"Full control, as is the Tool way" He is not wrong, They like to have full control over everything because that's how a good product is made. I would too. Maynard once judo thrown a guy who got on stage and was dancing saying "It was his stage" don't get me wrong I love tool, but he's not wrong and there's nothing wrong with it.
None of the album's are near as good as Lateralus I'm my opinion. But there are different forms each album take on and it's all a matter of perspective. I like all of the album's but none (to me) are of the quality that Lateralus presented.
+Derangedxzombie i thibk the way the songs are structured in 10,00 days are a little less proggresive, more like a formula, like vicarious and right in two dont sound the same but they have the same structure
Those slick bastards. Look at the smiles on their faces. They were finished with one of the best albums and some of the greatest songs. Those feelings of content and satisfaction on their faces.
funny. they're talking about "if Lateralus will be a step forward for tool", not knowing that lateralus is arguably the top 5 heavy albums in human history.
One of these days im gonna sit down and list my favorite Tool songs in order and thwn form an opinion on which is my favorite album, it's going to be extremely difficult and I'll probably change my mind a bunch but it should be fun. I haven't come across a band I like better yet, if I do i'm going to be one happy sob. ✌️✝️
It's logical. Those who know they don't need to prove themselves to anyone do keep this calm. Those who are insecure about themselves, on the other hand, will be sure to wave their arms and make noise.
yes yes yes. so true. he is such a huge part of the music, tools sound wouldn't be the same if he wasn't in it. I recognize every part of the music but his bass playing and parts really make every song shine.
I have single handedly turned a bunch of people into Tool fans and im proud of it. My son being my proudest, he loves them and not because I do, I just "introduced" him. ✌️✝️
Is there an interview with Tool (or Pantera for that matter) where these comment sections don't automatically rip the interviewer to shreds? Yeah, granted they've been asked some dumb shit by some dumb people on camera, but people are so preconditioned to see journalists as just unworthy by default to breathe the same air as Tool. This guy did fine, better than the other MTV2 yank who just went on about some Guns N Roses album with Adam and Maynard.
Akilleus not to throw any stones but go ahead and take a look at yourself. I'm a huge tool fan and I'd like to think I'm pretty reasonable.. you're just the guilty as the rest of "tool fans". Instead of bickering we should just enjoy the music and not spread hate. But you know, wtf do I know
The interviewer looks like a white Kanye west
+Joshua Gordon LMFAO
Hahaha True

Paul D'Amour gels his hair, fakes an accent and interviews his ex-bandmates.
Can't anyone interview Tool who actually understands the band?
those people didn't get communications degrees and ride the corporate cock carousel.
Justins blazed as fuck

+EccentricSage lol! I can totally see the entire Tool band telling them to fuck off, and I hope they do as well.
Ian 123
Critics are like eunuchs, they see how it's done but they can't do it themselves. Fuck them.

Danny Carey has giant legs
It's probably from all the double bass
I knew that going into this... But then I saw those tree trunks again...
"Shtudio album"
lmao
Shitty-o
I heard Shitty-o😂😂
"we are happy we made a good album"..No, man ! It wasn't good. It was freaking best album of all time. At least for me.
no, you're right dude. It is the BEST album of all time, objectively
*subjectively
***** I don't know why people say 10'000 days wasn't as good, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned and Right In Two are surely some of their best songs?

I think 10,000 days is their best album.
justin looks so badass lol
Lateralus....the best record ever
Changed my life spiritually
I think Justin joining the band was a really amazing thing for the creative parts of the tool music.
Yup
Justin and Danny are such brodies. Just look at those two sitting there being bros.
justin is so freaking good looking.
Homercon pause
@@hc3550 Hol' up...
I agree.
And I'm a dude.
this interviewer was trying to find negativity to exploit.
the world's best rhythm section.
danny's probably like "dude i don't really know how to answer you"
Wow Justin looks so different.
if only the follow up to 10,000 days had come out in five years
justin esta en otra dimension y vuelve al plano existencial para decir yeah, you know
Has the interviewer ever heard a Tool song?

"May-Nard"
Cmon man at least try
And right after, asks what the other THREE members were up to?
And yes I realize I'm replying to a 2 year old comment

Derangedxzombie Who is saying that?! It´s really good, all the songs on it all of them.
Jorge Hugo Absolutely. Opiate, Undertow, Ænima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days, all fantastic!
Adam Nihei I know bro, you feel me :3
+Derangedxzombie i thibk the way the songs are structured in 10,00 days are a little less proggresive, more like a formula, like vicarious and right in two dont sound the same but they have the same structure
Please before I die, make a new album. We aren't getting any younger and neither are you.
Saying 2019..but heard that before
Aug 30th 2019
Song today
Hope you made it to see this masterpiece
Fear Inoculum was the greatest musical experience I ever had.
Justin is unrecognizable these days
Here he looks like Aragorn and now he looks like a university archaeology professor.
Chancellor seems "high" haha
Those slick bastards. Look at the smiles on their faces. They were finished with one of the best albums and some of the greatest songs. Those feelings of content and satisfaction on their faces.
Interviewer did fine, I thought it was a good video.
He went to great lengths to think about the most idiotic questions to ask any band, yet alone Tool. Cringeworthy interview.
Steve Raff at least he was calm and somewhat humble about it.. not too prickly
Danny is 6'5
Taylor Gibson holy heck man
I still listen to this album , Tool is forever !
I had no idea Justin was British
Australian...
@@paulsallee4889 British
I had to re watch the first 11 seconds of this video to realize he was saying "studio" and not "shitty" album.
Agree Lateralus is truly there best album.Triad.Lateralus.Ticksandleeches.Schism....should I go on.
theres a guy in my class in uni who sounds the exact same as Danny!
funny. they're talking about "if Lateralus will be a step forward for tool", not knowing that lateralus is arguably the top 5 heavy albums in human history.
"An album band". Prove it danny!
Interviewer is a passive aggressive knob.
justin chancellor he's the bassist
Lateralus. greatest record ever written
Aenima for me

“We’re here to share our art with people, not so much ourselves.”
I'm triggered by their man spreading
its kind of weird watching danny. hes like 6'8 and could beat a mother fuckers ass but hes so chill at the same time
It's logical. Those who know they don't need to prove themselves to anyone do keep this calm.
Those who are insecure about themselves, on the other hand, will be sure to wave their arms and make noise.
I can't ever decide with that or Aenima or 10,000 Days.
Goddamn you can’t please anyone.
i love justins input apprently hes been really busy on the new album which is wicked
Rafkins noise I guess we'll find out soon😂
I thought that was Adam until he started talking. I couldn't see it but I was thinking OH, Justin is there too! Oh .... That wasn't Adam....
That interviewer was the worst.
justin has a perfect british accent😆
yes yes yes. so true. he is such a huge part of the music, tools sound wouldn't be the same if he wasn't in it. I recognize every part of the music but his bass playing and parts really make every song shine.
16 years was bad to justin
the interviewer is douchebag, Tool is entity not a rehersall band you fucking knob
Maynard is the singer
Making wine..
you know whats funny? i started listening to tool a few years later after i stopped using drugs...WHAT THE FUCK WAS I THINKING?!?!?!?!???!
not the worst tool interviewer iv seen though...
"How do you pronounce the title?" What kind of question is that?
stupid ass questions from a guy who has a small weird mouth that goes, bah doo paa doo paa dooo and then asks another fucking stupid question
definitely
I love Tools music
Thanks!
Fuck i see why why MJK and jones weren't there. Stupid generic questions.
I have single handedly turned a bunch of people into Tool fans and im proud of it. My son being my proudest, he loves them and not because I do, I just "introduced" him.

Danny just fucking dwarfs everyone else in the room, christ.
idk but he's done the same thing on multiple interview vids i've watched today....
This kind of interviewer is why we don’t get Tool interviews anymore
so he has to put out albums? do you want quality of quantity?
Hey interviewer Sean Connery, stop with the SH's!
Danny is so monotone through the whole interview.
Man danny looked cool with shorter hair.
Are you not on the fan site email list?
what in gods name is going on below me.
Non ho capito un cazzo :D
Great Band
Finally I know how it's pronounced.

I'm so excited for Tool's new album: Dodecagonal! It comes out August 20, 2012!
If only that had been true.
I want Dannys t shirt so much
haha good one, I hope you're being sarcastic

ah the interviewer is very lazy, his language is sloppy and careless

Funny, I never noticed that “studio” had an H in it until now.
It's called accent. Ever heard of it?
