Excellent content. Can you do a NJ (Union, Essex, Bergen counties) vs Westchester county, NY comparison?

Jersey's BS for real. I make 60k and I still need a roommate. I eat Burger King's $5.00 deal for lunch just to stay afloat but even that's a scratch

I make in the upper 70s (I will probably surpass the 80k mark next spring with a raise). I am able to live alone in a one bedroom apartment, but I am living extremely frugal in order to get by. I'm in my 30s, so I'm a bit more established in my career (IT). I live and work in the Princeton area. Once you start making closer to 80k, you can start to afford to live without a roommate, have more leftover income to invest for retirement (401K, Roth IRA, and standard brokerage accounts).
I've been maxing out my Roth since 2018. This year, I was able to afford to put 14% (plus 4% employer match) into my 401k. I've also been investing into the S&P (VOO) and dividend stock ETFs (like SCHD and JEPQ) in my regular taxable brokerage. My goal in to retire at or slightly before age 55. A lofty goal, but I am determined to reach it.
