- Dominique Deveraux arrives in Denver in this scene from the Season 4 episode of Dynasty, "New Lady in Town". In addition to Diahann Carroll, Pamela Sue Martin (Fallon) is also featured.
"I don't sleep in my clothes nor do I sleep with them" LMAO!!!!!!
One of my favorite lines from the show. LOL
I love how she blatantly says she sleeps in the nude with such class and elegance. Go ahead Dominique....lol
CLASSIC 😘
@@naturistfred For some reason, I don't think that's what she meant.
All i can say is, WOW!😄
Let's face it: Diahann Carroll is three kinds of fierce. She DELIVERED those lines.
This scene was inspirational. I bought a 3-bedroom townhouse in 2010. My smallest bedroom is my dressing room, all because of the impression this scene made on me as a poor 16 year-old black girl in Detroit in 1986. So now I, too, can say "I do not sleep in my clothes, nor do I sleep with them!" Thank you Ms. Carroll! You're a beautiful role model!!
Great story!
Correct. Nothing in the closet in the bedroom I sleep in. May seem strange, but I like it.
The master bedroom is already pretty big (28 x 22). I don't need more space. Also, I'll probably sell this year so no need to renovate. Thanks for the suggestion.
I love it! I say the same thing about watching the Huxtables go to jazz clubs during The Cosby Show heyday. I was about 8 or so, loved music, and I would say to myself "I can't wait to do that one day." When I became an adult and moved to DC, the first thing I did was find a jazz club to call a second home. When I saw Angela Bofill singing about three feet away from me, I knew I was a real adult. lol. People don't understand what those things meant to black kids back then.
GQ - IKR!! It's not about "playing the race card." It's just that we didn't see people that looked like us on TV much those days unless they were playing the same stereotypical roles. Bofill is a name I haven't heard in years. Singers like her and Phyllis Hyman never really got their due. They knew how to be sultry without being half-naked on stage. Oops, sorry, don't mean to sound like somebody's grandma...lol! Thanks for the comment!
Rest in love "Dominique Deveraux" Diahann Carroll.
Amen!
😢😢😢😢
Amen my darling!
RIP JULIA

I named my daughter Dominique because of Diahann Carroll. 🥰
I got named completely after her the full Dominique Devereux (middle name just spelled with e instead of a
Her outfit is impeccable. That white pantsuit with the fur. She did not come to play!

Just once in my life I want to make a grand entrance like that.

Iconic entrance. She just made me so proud everytime she was on screen. She broke down so many barriers with her beauty, style and grace. She also could clapback like no other. Lol. RIH queen.
This post made me smile and tear up at the same time.

May she rest in peace. I was 7 years old when Julia came out and I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.
@@k.holland7011 She was Class everyday! May she rest in peace!
@@xavierdh2000 agreed. I was just in awe of her beauty when I was a little boy and first saw her. Years later on Dynasty I still thought What a beautiful classy woman. Still at 84 a beauty. May she rest in peace.

Wow did not know-sad
Oh no! I too had no idea Ms Carroll had passed. RIP
Another icon gone.
Sing in Heaven beautiful lady!
So sad indeed
As soon as I heard the word "junior" before suite, I knew it was about to be a wrap. There's so much to unpack in this scene. The strength and elegance she exemplified in this scene and show as a Black woman is nothing short of royal. You deserve the rest you now have Ms. Carroll. ❤✊🏾👊🏾👏🏾👑👑👑
It took so long to remember just what happened
I was so young and vestal then
You know it hurt me
But I'm breathing so I guess I'm still alive
Even if signs seem to tell me otherwise
I've got my hands bound
My head down, my eyes closed
And my throat wide open
Do unto others what has been done to me
Do unto others what has been done to you
I'm treading water
I need to sleep a while
My lamb and martyr, you look so precious
Won't you come a bit closer
Close enough so I can smell you
I need you to feel this
I can't stand to burn too long
For one sweet moment I am whole
Do unto you now
What has been done to me
Do unto you now
What has been done
You're breathing so I guess you're still alive
Even if signs seem to tell me otherwise
Won't you come just a bit closer
Close enough so I can smell you
I need you to feel this
I need this to make me whole
For I am your witness that
Blood and flesh can be trusted
I am your witness that
Blood and flesh can be trusted
And only this one holy medium brings me piece of mind
Got your hands bound, your head down
And your eyes closed
You look so precious now
I have found some kind of temporary sanity in this
Shit, blood and cum on my hands
I've come round full circle
Come thru Dominique! The matching luggage, the cream colored suit with brooch down to the fur draped over her shoulder the women if Dynasty were the best dressed. Nolan Miller did an amazing job with costuming and you can see her paid so much attention to the smallest details. I saw no two actresses wore the same color in the same scene.
He was amazing!
i believe all her luggage was cartier!
@@ForeverCarrington ....he used to dress uber diva...JOAN CRAWFORD...that is who he is referencing for all the female characters....especially ALEXIS....
Watching this scene again makes me wish the writers hadn't quickly "softened" Dominique. The "I deserve everything" attitude she started with was so delicious.
Initially, she'd asked the show's writers to write her as a rich white man because, as she saw it, that's what they were best at writing.
Perhaps, the audience couldn't handle it.
@@TheReturnOfStephan1 Good grief.
Looking back in was a groundbreaking scene. Dr. King had been assiasinated 16 years before and to see this Elegant Black Woman walking into La Mirage like that was quite amazing. Also keep in mind that Colorado doesn't have a High African American Demographic.
laminage Most people don’t have a separate bedroom for their clothes if she wanted another hotel to accommodate her she should have called them herself
@@kellymcfalls1458 Not if La Mirage made the mistake by giving her a junior suite instead of the 2 bedroom suite she originally asked for. It would be common courtesy for the hotel making such an error to ensure the guest was then booked into another hotel, especially for such a high class establishment like La Mirage.
@@simonwebster368 Thx u! 👏👏
Simon Webster I used to work for the Marriott and you’re absolutely right!! If we made a mistake and couldn’t accommodate the guest, we made arranged for them at our other hotels in the area and shuttles them their if they didn’t have transportation!!
Kelly McFalls She’s not most people. Dominique Devereaux is wealthy. With money comes choices 😊
The ICONIC Diane Carol!!!!! She was 50 years old playing this role and looked easily in her 20’s. What an amazing classy women. Her spirit will truly be missed. We LOVE YOU!!!! Thank you for gifting this world with your presence L.I.E.F.
Dominique said I THOUGHT YA'LL BITCHES KNEW...I REQUIRE ONE ROOM FOR MYSELF, AND ONE FOR MY WARDROBE!!!

@@andresuston7692 😁😆😅😂🤣
Coolest thing about this scene was how Fallon was all about making sure Dominique was taken care of- and this was before she knew they were related.
🏆 That entrance into Denver is one of the most powerful scenes in Primetime television history. An elegant classy lady who knows her value and self worth and would never ever settle for less than what she truly deserves. Dominique was the African-American version of Alexis. Two phenomenally beautiful women who were strong enough to challenge any man. Primetime television was at it's fiery best 🔥 in those days and times.
🌹 Rest in paradise Dominique & Blake 🌹
My mom told me how much she loved this show when it was still coming on. I started watching the reruns of it on tv and Miss Deveraux instantly was elected to exist as my guide in life. This entrance was ICONIC 💎✨👑🖤
Her entrance was EVERYTHING!!!
Indeed it was
Idk how many times I’ve watched this scene but every time I see it I get goosebumps. NO ONE else but her could play Dominique Devereaux! Diahann Carroll is the main reason I carry myself as I do. She was always so dignified and well spoken. Well dressed too. She definitely was as one person called her “the Essence of Elegance”.
Jesus her acting was awesome. How did she make 'l intend to have a memorable stay' sound so... ominous and threatening?
Are you praying? Too funny
@petehuckleberry5068 😂Yes, l imagine Jesus enjoyed Dynasty as much as l did, so l'm just chatting with him.
When Dominique arrived to the story, in my country we fell in love with her! Diahann Carroll composed a great caracter, firm, determined, vital, and very noble. An intelligent woman who did not allow herself to be bowed down. Really beautiful, in a natural and sober way. Glamorous, elegant, splendid. Her character obviously should have continued to the end.
Loved and love this awesome show especially fallon❤
This scene is just so POWERFUL !!
I agree with you.
That's how u make a grand entrance.

Just another day at La Mirage......Dominique is fierce!
Fallon "In the meantime, have a pleasant stay." Dominique "I intend to. I intend to have a memorable stay." Loved this line
I still can’t believe she’s gone. I always loved Dominique, and always enjoyed seeing her on both Dynasty and The Colby’s. She is and always will be sorely missed 😓 we will always love you Diahann!
A true class act. Diahann Carroll will be missed. RIP
When I tell you this scene changed my life, it really made me understand how to make an entrance.
Thank you so very much for posting this Iconic clip. I remember I hosted a viewing party for Ms. Carrol's first appearance on Dynasty in a suite at The Essex Hotel in NYC Little did the viewers know that Ms. Carroll would be so fierce. She is a self made American Icon and Goddess. Thanks again!!!
You're welcome! I loved her as Dominique. She's beautiful and so classy. I just wish they'd written better stories for her.
ForeverCarrington, I concur! Dominique Devereaux/Diahann Carroll is Exquisite! She has inspired me to dream big and to live life to the fullest and demand the best accommodations, items and experiences, every time! Thank you for posting this treasure! 💎🥰💃🏽👸🏽👍🏽
They did Diahann right… the entrance, the clothes… the attitude! ❤❤❤❤ class all the way!
Enter "The Queen" !!!
Came along way from "Julia"
Love Diahann Carroll, used to watch her back in the day in 1968 as Julia Baker and her son Corey faithfully, so glad she took this role as Dominque.....Blake's half sister and Alexis's adversary
Another class act looking radiant here, Fallon- your Hotel just flipped up a notch having Miss Deveraux staying as a guest !
“Junior suite???” Get em together‼️‼️ RIH 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Ms.DC was the 1st Black Woman to have her own TV series when I was little and I watch it, so seeing her on Dynasty was sooooo amazing, and she entered with such beauty and grace, I loved it.💕💕💕I lived to see what they were wearing...omg 💕💕💕💕😎😍😍😍😍and they way they incorporated her being Blake sister was fantastic! The storyline was done with taste and Blake didn’t treat her mean...👍🏾
Love her! She's so glamorous.

Pure class, beauty and elegance. Something hard to find nowadays!!!
May she rest in peace cause there will not be another one like her cause she was glamorous and elegant Everyday.
I loved the entrance and her lines about her hotel suite, Ms. Diahnn Carroll was an entertainer that I adored growing up. She was a phenomenal woman, in every sense of the word. May she rest in eternal peace. 🌟
"I intend to have a memorable stay". Well, she had it.
Did that guy seriously try to downgrade Ms. Devereuax???

Her luggage is from Cartier - you can see the logo briefly - they started making a wider range of leather goods in this era. How befitting the exceptional Miss Deveraux!
I noticed that too full set the glamour of it all
In 1:40, Diahann Carroll made history on television, and she was able to do it fully dressed. The English language simply does not have enough accolades for the great Diahann Carroll.
..for a certain generation....baby boomers....she did it TWICE....she was the 1st black woman to be the STAR of a NATIONAL PRIME TIME TV SHOW...in the 60s...the show was named....JULIA....she was a single mother...who was a nurse....GROUNDBREAKING....
This scene was the precursor to Coming to America!!! Love the entrance. She was royalty! #RIPQueenMother
I remember I was a student at FIT Los Angeles, eons ago. The wardrobe people of Dynasty came by to talk. They said Diahann Caroll has one of the best bodies that they have ever had to work with.
One of the best scenes ever!!
This was the shit....you know it was when us teen dudes were watching along with our parents. That's some scary ass music for the Goddess lol.
Diahann is elegant, beautiful & well spoken! She is dressed to a T! That fur coat is bad! I love Dynasty. Now I gotta go watch some full episodes with her in them!💃💃💃
Pure class and elegance!
In all these years, I’ve always remembered that introduction with her saying she doesn’t sleep with her clothes. LOL
Thanks
This is my fantasy Dynasty Glamour Fashion elegance grace We miss Dhiann Carroll
I remember Entertainment Tonight doing a story on the day of the shoot. They were showing the exact screen with camera behind walking in to La Marage. It was a pretty big deal then. I had read she told Aaron Spelling she wanted to be the first prime time black biotch on television. It was a rather fast turnaround because shortly thereafter she filmed this scene. It’s too bad the character got watered down & she never got to be as big as Alexis but the soaps only allowed one (big) villain at a time. Hence Alexis, J.R (Dallas)., Abby (KL), Angela (FC) & Constance (Famingo Road). The 80’s were the best.
Can we all just take a moment to notice how all those white people from the bell boys, to the receptionist, to the owner of the hotel all catered and bowed down to the BLACK WOMAN. It's a small thing, but also HUGE.
Catered and bowed down to a black woman? What kind of horseshit is that? They were doing their jobs, same as they'd do for any other wealthy guest.
She had money!!!!!

I have always loved her but when she appeared this night I knew I truly loved her she is beautiful classy elegant and intelligent I nearly passed out Rest In Peace you will never be forgotten you are truly a legend
Denver or Carrington's were never the same, such a classy lady! 🤣🤣💜🕊
It's a small, inconsequential thing, but I love how Dominique pronounces "specifically" at 0:34. Just by the way she said that word you can tell how disrespected she feels at the thought of being given a junior suite.
I think Diahann was very deliberate in how she used tone and delivered her lines. She was a classically trained actress with Broadway experience.
Quick funny:
Back then, my aunt and I would go to church every Sunday and she would dress to the NINES... one particular Sunday, she wore a winter white wool suit, white mink cape, white fedora, white leather gloves and shoes and just knew she was “sharp”. I now realize she was inspired by the iconic Dominique Devereaugh....

RIP Diahann Carroll. A talent so amazing, gone too soon.
Notice the look the clerk gives Dominique when Fallon steps in......
Now this, Dominique 2.0, is HOW you make an entrance and impression.
I still can't bring myself to watch the reboot and I'm less than thrilled they resurrected Dominique. NO ONE CAN DO DÓMINIQUE JUSTICE BESIDES DIHANN CARROLL. NO ONE.
There was absolutely no reason for a reboot. I've yet to watch. And resurrecting Dominique? NO ONE CAN BE DOMINIQUE BESIDES DIHANN CARROLL. NO ONE.
@@onlyonecandacehazzard The reboot is great in some parts (ie: Sammy Jo being a guy and Fallon being way more ballsy and front and center). Otherwise, the show is decent IF you have no remembrance of the orginal. And as for Diahann Carroll being the only Dominique Deveraux, I totally agree BUT they could at least get a better actress OR give her better to do than what she's been given. And The CW, if you're listening: BRING ALEXIS BACK WITH REAL FIRE, VENOM, AND PURPOSE.
Marqus Daimen My main problem with Dominique and Alexis in the new version so far is that they’ve both been unsuccessful (I mean Alexis living in a trailer?!). It would be great for them both to become powerful figureheads like they were in the original but I think Fallon has definitely taken Alexis’ place on that front.
How many of you keep looking at this cliffhanger finding it hard to believe that diahann Carroll first time playing that kind of character did u see the people looking at her and her entourage

Being a big DYNASTY fan for more than 30 years, I have been watching this scene at least a 100 times in my life. But today I recognized the hotel-guy in the middle of the scenery at 0:30 for the very first time. He seems to be totally in shock because Dominique is just offered a Junior Suite. Just look at his expression when Dominique repeats "Junior Suite".
