Scot Hall said it best "In Wrestling they either like you or they don't. When he ran to the ring and shaked the ropes they cheered and you can't teach that."
I remember Hall saying something like that, words to that effect. Another thing that I recall was a shoot magazine writer-editor knocking the WWF's decision to give Sid the WWF World Heavyweight Championship at the expense of Shawn Michaels. The writer-editor, who clearly had contempt for Sid, said that the best thing one could say about Sid is that people cheer when he walks down the aisle. What this fellow didn't understand was that's the best thing that one could say about _any_ wrestler. They cheer, it means they're at the arena to see you (or you're one of the reasons). It's that simple. If Sid didn't draw (as the writer-editor claimed), then I wonder what that made Michaels. I should mention that the writer-editor didn't have a problem with putting Sid on the cover of that same issue. So, he was doing the same thing for which be berated the WWF: using Sid to make money. He would do the same thing with Hogan, another wrestler that he despised. It was a good magazine, I was always pumped for the next issue, yet looking back, it's clear why the writers weren't in the wrestling business.
@@markv1274 To quote Nash "Sid was money". A lot of people say Sid couldn't wrestle blah blah. When that music hit and Psycho Sid walked out they were on their feet. That's something that is missing in Wrestling today that instant connection with the fans.
The week that Ric Flair lost in Saskatoon to Bret Hart, the WWF came to Charlottetown Prince Edward Island for a house show. (Ric of course didn't come, he had that inner ear problem at the time, not that any of us knew that.) There were 4000 people there, which was a big house for that town but was tiny by WWF standards, and for the most part, the talent was basically punching and kicking their way through the matches, not taking any risks for such a small crowd. The most impressive move of the night was Ted DiBiase giving the Ultimate Warrior a vertical suplex. Of course Ted lost the match, but I still appreciated the bit extra he did for our small crowd.
Absolutely! He was great even in the early days of the NWO as their money man and one of their mouthpieces. Cut some great promos and gave the group a great sense of direction. Should’ve kept him in it. Wasn’t quite the same afterwards.
I was just thinking this very thing. The only ones I’d put ahead of him as a pie heel are Ric Flair, Vince McMahon, and Bobby Heenan (if you count announcers)
Not true. I remember Bret being very big here in the UK & Ireland Warrior was not that big here. Wild is one way to describe him, crap is a better way.
Hulk Hogan "Passed the Torch" to both Goldberg and The Warrior. Both of them were not able to "Carry the Torch." But, The Ultimate Warrior truly did a TERRIBLE job of trying to "Hold the Torch." In a very short time, The Ultimate Warrior made it clear he was not capable of "Carrying the Torch" the way Hogan did. And when Hogan left WCW and allowed "Bill Goldberg" to be the champion after beating him in a fair match, we saw Bill Goldberg also did not "Carry the Torch" well. Some of this was because "Bill Goldberg" was changed to "Goldberg" for some stupid reason. That was like "rebranding" someone successful, and it didn't work.
@@shanewilson8728 No, Ted DiBiase is a loser. "Don't sin, you'll go straight to Hell!" "He's my son, he did nothing wrong. Thou shalt not steal...unless you're my son."
Ted already said his piece in the Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior documentary. Jim was alive back then. Now that he’s gone, let the man rest in peace.
Jeez no one like warrior. Vince knew how to capitalize on warriors hubris. Warrior knew how to pump up a crowd. Something many entertainers just don't know how to do now in all forms of entertainment.
Whatever negative comments people say about warrior what can't be denied is that he was perfect for the WWF cartoon era he was colourful had charisma and personality
True, he was a larger than life character that brought a lot of energy and fun -- something us, kids at the time, wanted to see on tv. Like him or not, he'll always be remembered as a highly entertaining wrestling character.
@@Jhoncena22 no, he was perfect for the era, he was crazy over. The reaction he got being there live in arenas was deafening at times. However, he was NOT perfect to be the champion, or the face of the company. But as a midcard singles star or IC level guy? He was spot-on for the time.
Thing about Ultimate Warrior & Hulk Hogan: they might get loads of criticism from their peers and wrestling-connoisseurs, but without them two that era would be much less memorable. Them two formed a profound bond with young fandom which then later drove the Attitude Era as they got older and wanted more. A lot of ex-pros always like to say "I didn't understand why Vince was pushing Warrior/Hogan"....and they still don't get it. But Vince got it. And so did the fans.
"his star power didn't last that long"... Warrior really squandered what could've been a legendary career. Dude had all the stars aligned for him and it went to his head
Warrior never whined about his career being short. So why should DiBiase care? Warrior was electrifying during his time...and then he moved on with the rest of his life.
The Ultimate Warrior created a character nobody had ever really saw before. The look and his energy, everything he did, is what made him a LEGEND. As a kid in the 80s watching him do his thing was so thrilling. He got people and especially kids, more hyped up than most other wrestlers. I was disappointed to hear The Undertaker tell a story of Jim/Warrior snapping/cursing at a kid who approached him for an autograph. Lost some respect for him there.
Say whatever you want, Warrior was a phenomenon. He was larger than life and captured the imagination in a way no other wrestler could. Fans loved him and that grated the established wrestlers. He was and still is legendary.
I really think most people nowadays don’t understand context. People aren’t disrespecting Warriors these are just true stories from people who had to work with him so if you were a Warrior fan in the 80’s just remember him as one of your favorites
Warrior had a major beef with Ted because of the poor way Ted conducted himself, all the hookers and drugs, and infidelity. Warrior didn’t stand for that shit. Ted should be thankful that he made the money that he did and not speak ill of the dead. His story entirely lacks context
@@aaronrusMy goodness the no showing delusion steroid head that had 0 talent and 0 skill doesn't stand for drugs and hookers? Oh the angels are descending from the sky😂
It wasn't even a great gimmick because it was too limited. As he said, people got tired of seeing the same couple of moves over and over. Hogan, who didn't have the greatest skillset either, found ways to reinvent himeslf, and keep things fresh, or relatively fresh. Warrior didn't.
@@GraemeCree Warrior never intended to be a lifer. He had a mind and wanted to use it for other things. So he wasn't interested in "reinventing" himself for the business.
@@truvintage5800 Yeah, they did... At first. But he simply didn't have enough to keep them interested in the long term, which is why his reign was cut short.
It was a great gimmick u sh!t head that’s why he in the hall of fame, 2 Ted DiBiase bull shit bc he did the same moves the only difference was the slowed it down to kill time and entertain longer, warrior come down get right to it and finish quickly, which the fans respected and expected bc he was super big and pushed like he couldn’t be hurt. So yea it work and he was a superstar he stopped his own career bc he probably wanted to do other shit
What people forget a lot of the time is the reason guys like Warrior, Hogan and Flair did similar matches over and over is because that is what people who paid for a ticket came to see. Flair and Hogan are both obviously more capable athletes than Warrior, but at their peaks, it was like paying for a ticket to Yankees game with the guarantee you’d see a Babe Ruth home run.
Hogan was no better in the ring. He had 5 or 6 moves and just like Warrior was over because of his gimmick and charisma. Flair was the worker out of those 3. That being said, Warrior was the most exciting thing in wrestling from 88-90.
@@anthonyfrombelowHogan was a thousand times better in the ring! Maybe u need to go back n watch him even way back before the Hulkamania gimmick? He knew how to work a match n sell to a crowd the Warrior was a jerkoff who did 3 minute matches n gassed out! Couldn’t carry Hogans jockstrap which is why he didn’t keep getting a push and they had to put the strap back on Hogan 😂😂😂 a loser!
In general, people tend to shy away from saying bad things about the dead, whether they be true, or not. Wrestlers,- to an extent, are a closed circle. For the most part, they do NOT say bad things about other wrestlers. I would imagine alot of this comes from the knowledge that, "if I have to work with this guy down the road, I sure as hell don't want him thinking "this is the guy who bad mouthed me- I'll just lay into him in the match". Much has been said about Helwig's proffesionalism. We have seen glimpses of how other wrestlers percieved him. This is not bad mouthing a dead man, this is the truth of how he was to work with.
Not so much a ultimatum, but he pretty much held Vince too ransom, telling him to pay him a million dollars or he wouldn't work in the SummerSlam 91 main event two days before, Vince paid him the 1million bucks and fired him straight after the match
@@TheSeamus82 Holding VKM to ransom? You speak as if Vince didn't have a pot to piss in and didn't have a window to throw it out of. VKM screwed over a lot of wrestlers over the years. UW pushing VKM for more money was a sound move. Vince ending up asking UW to return in 1992. Vince knew damn well how valuable UW was to the company.
Ultimate Warrior, Undertaker, Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels are my 5 favorite wrestlers of all time.... Macho Man Randy Savage, Andre The Giant and Bret Hart are also in my favorites.
1. Shawn Michaels, 2. The Undertaker, 3. Bret Hart, 4. The Rock, 5. Ultimate Warrior, 6. Hulk Hogan, 7. Randy Savage, 8. Kurt Angle, 9. Steve Austin, 10. Ric Flair is my Top 10.
Hulk/Hollywood Hogan, Scott hall, macho man, Dusty Rhodes, the rock, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Ric rude, Ric flair, Steve Austin. Austin could be switched out depending, but basically all the others are locks.
Respect for Ted but guys who personally disliked Jim Hellwig don't see how new and exciting Warrior was to kid fans. Kids don't care that his matches were repetitive and phony. He fit Vince's brand of 80s wrestling.
The main thing is selling it to the fans. In those days largely kids. This larger than life, massive built character captivated me, the same way as MDM sold being the bad guy. That's what mattered then. Both legends
Jim's ex wife said it best which was, "Jim's greatest downfall was his inability to see thing's front other people's perspective, he always thought his way was the right way". A great point because if I'm a Wrestler in the WWE I would have the exact opposite of Warrior's way of thinking. I would wanna take the time to develop my skills in the ring I would wanna take care of the other guy's body and I wouldn't have the perspective of if I don't have it all I have nothing.
Ted has always been very jealous of Warrior because Warrior had a fraction of Ted's wrestling ability and he didn't care about the wrestling business, yet he was very successful in terms of popularity, win/loss record, and money earnings.
I doubt anybody is jealous about a racist, sexist, homophobe. No matter the success, Warrior was a total rotten scumbag piece of shit. From making fun of Bobby Heenan's cancer, to laughing about Heath Ledger dying, to saying that the people of New Orleans deserved to die in Hurricane Kathrina, he (thankfully was!) was one of the lowest forms of sub-amoebic lifes on this planet. The hilarious thing is, that what he said about Heath Ledger's children, can be said about his: He is dead now, so the kids have a chance for full recovery.
Agree. I think it just comes down to him not being very likeable or approachable back in the day. I feel he tried to make things right at the hall of fame and thanked who he could, including Jake backstage who he upset back in the day. But I’ll never understand why Jim Ross and Cornette hate on him so much, over & over, they didn’t really know him like Ted did.
@@ziggypop79 Again, take a deep dive in what he wrote on his website. The reason why Ross and Cornette hate him, is because he wished Heenan would die a painful death and that he absolutely deserved the cancer. Both were friends of Heenan. It's understandable why they hate him. Let alone all his racism, homophibia, sexism and the fact he also made fun of other people dying. Warrior was a horrible human being.
So many wrestling personalities absolutely bash The Ultimate Warrior but you know what? Ultimate was over as big as Hogan was. When ultimates crazy promos hit everybody listen. When is music hit the freaking crowd erupted like nobody's business. Ultimate did it for himself and there's not a damn thing wrong with that.
@Anthony also these grown ass neck beard soy boy smarks dont realize the warriors fan base was 12 year olds they dont care about dumb things like work rate
I've had erections that lasted longer than Warrior's career. Seems odd that they would remain "jealous" decades after his act petered out while theirs were still going strong. Probably cuz it's the behavior that they base their opinions on, not his ephemeral success.
While Ultimate Warrior wasn't a great technical wrestler I think a lot of people judge his move-pool mostly for his early period in WWF, because he did start doing other moves too eventually, and not just clothelines and shaking the ropes. People might be surprised if you look into his later matches for WWE. Look at his matches with The Undertaker for example. Warrior was actually doing "tombstone" piledrivers on the Undertaker, and that's a pretty dangerous move if you don't know what you're doing. His match with Macho Man had some technical moves too, if I recall. Still pretty limited though, I guess. I think Warrior was arguably pushed too hard by Vince, because Vince liked the energy, intensity and look of Warrior. But Warrior had to deal with all the contempt of the others, and being a loner didn't help. He just didn't trust anyone, and got edgy and paranoid, because everyone was jealous of his push. That is my take on it. Him being on steroids and having steroid-rages at planes, resturants, fans, kids, and also not really caring about the other wrestlers too much also gave him a bad reputation.
Eh he trusted some people, it was just very few. It got to the point he basically trusted Savage, Bad News Brown and Owen Hart towards the end of his WHC run. He did however get along with a lot of the talent going off of shoot interviews. It makes sense why he isolated when you listen to other shoot interviews. According to Marty Jannetty he and The Bulldogs spiked drinks with street drugs to trick Warrior into getting all messed up. If you add in the massive pile of interviews with talent regarding Pat Patterson constantly trying to fuck the big bodybuilder guys and showing up to their Hotel rooms fishing for sex, Lord Alfred Hates running around putting his dick all over male talent etc can you really blame Warrior for becoming a loner and only associating with a select few?
@@onewarriornation602 Haha. Comment of the year-nomination. Yes, I knew he got along with Bad News Brown, Savage and Owen Hart. There's a clip with The Warlord too here on YT. He seemed to get along with Warrior too. I didn't know that Marty Janetty tried to do that.. will have to look for that interview.
In what world is the Tombstone a dangerous move? It's by far the safest version of the Piledriver (especially compared to the Cradle, Spike and Victory Star Drop variations), hence why Don Muraco was doing them one-armed without even looking at his opponent.
@@onewarriornation602 My word, my dear man! Are you implying that Lord Alfred Hayes, the pride of England, was gallivanting with those strapping young lads of the World Wrestling Federation? Cease and desist, my good man, from your ruthless verbal attack on the most honourable Lord Alfred George James Hayes! Of course, it might have been that he, too, was a member of The Cream Team.
I understand the animosity from other westlers for warrior because of how he acted but the he was an awesome character in the ring..he might not of had a bunch of mpves he did but neither does 90% of the biggest names in wrestling hogan, flair, dusty etc. If youve seen any of their matches youve seen them all. I absolutely love the million dolalr man. I wish he got more credit for being one of the best on the mic that stepped into the squared circle
Back in the late 80s and early 90s as kids we did t know the heels were the actual wrestlers carrying the good guys. perfect, ted, rude all hated but really rated when you realise how good once you got older
A as a boy the Ultimate Warrior was my hands down favorite. He could excite the crowd with his presence and intensity. There will always be a spot in my heart for the warrior. Now having said that as an adult I admit I have learned more about the warrior (stiff in the ring, very limited move set, self centered, not overly kind or caring towards the fans) and realized why he is not so popular amoungst other wrestlers. They have their points but I tell you as a young wrestling fan warrior was exciting.
I think Ted is referring to the match in Japan, warrior cut it short. But come on Ted, you guys had a classic on SNME, and yes I’m sure that had a lot to do with you. Warrior was in several classic matches. Hogan did the same 4-5 things too. And Jake. Most guys did back then.
I wouldn't say that warrior was in hogan's league, one was limited cause he couldn't work while the other didn't have to there's a huge difference between the two.
@@bdot187um not saying you’re wrong, just that I think warrior could pull it off on the night with the right opponent, that match he had with savage at mania for example is unbelievable and dramatic. The one big thing he had was charisma.
Exactly. Even Flair, considered one of the best workers, basically had the same match each time. Ted and many old timers are just jealous that the Warrior reached higher heights than them and earned more money.
Difference was Hogan could do more things, as shown in Japan, but he chose not to because he was big time over with the few he used, he didn't need to wrestling in the states & UK like he did in Japan.
@@ziggypop79 I would say the same about a guy like lugar, both were horrible wrestlers but were over like rover and with the right guy they can look good, but hulk on the hand had classics with guys you would never expect it from.. Guys like abdullah the butcher, kamala, bundy, bossman, hansen, warrior himself and others.
I will disagree with Ted in one regard. He said Warrior's star power didn't last. His star power always lasted. If he didn't maintain that star power, he wouldn't have gotten a prime spot in WCW against Hogan(I know Hogan wanted to avenge his loss, but Warrior got them great ratings that first night) and another shot with WWE, to include squashing HHH at Wrestlemania. It was his star power that got him second and third chances despite his limited move set and bad attitude.
Exactly. Many years later he headlined his hall of fame class as well. And even today, he sells a bunch of merchandise, especially action figures. Flash in the pans don't bring that much money in 25 years after last wrestling in a major promotion.
Hogan didn't really avenge his loss, as that would be a clean loss returned to Warrior as was done to Hulk and it didn't happen that way. Hogan was a heel cheating to win in the Warrior loss. So he didn't get his win back really.
Everytime Warrior returned the ratings popped huge. During the 2000's his action figures were Mattel's best sellers and his DVD burial broke records for WWE DVD sales. When did Tobias ever draw, again?
He got a spot in WCW because Hogan brought him in. Wanted to work with him. Only reason. He lost the WWE loads of money by no-showing. He even no-showed charity events. Vince invested a lot of time and money into him and his time on the top was very brief and he got fired.
In 2010, Ted headlined the Hall of Fame class. Since Wrestlemania was in Phoenix, WWE tried really hard that year to convince Warrior to headline the class -- can you imagine if Ted would have had to take 2nd place to Warrior, a guy he genuinely didn't like? Glad Ted was the headliner! 😀
Back in the day I loved watching the warrior because of the song he ran out to and the electricity in the crowd when the fans went wild…. But hearing this interview their points are quite valid Warriors was no Bret the hitman hart or even close with technical skills….. these guys were spot on 😊
The Ultimate Warrior, what a man, what a character in the WWF. The reason i became a fanatic as an 8 yr old. In-ring work did not matter to anyone that was a youth at the time. The Ultimate Warrior, one of the greatest of all time (popularity wise). Suck it up haters
I can guarantee it didn’t matter to anyone in the whole arena no matter what age. He was a showman and that’s what he bought. These guys are just jealous!
The way Ted leaned back and put his hand to his face tells just how pissed he was at hearing the story about Jake having to ask the Warrior. Ted speaks low and doesn't emote but the little tells- tell a big feeling inside of him after hearing that
We know how Andre handled it! According to Bobby Heenan. When Warrior was told to do a move with more care, just be a bit slower and not like 200mph and didn't do it, Andre just let him run against his fist, and that made Warrior learn. But it'sa fact that some people don't listen to words, they need to learn it the hard way. 😁
Ted seems to forget about the Saturday Night's Main Event (or Friday un this case) match versus DiBiase. Warrior didn't do "the same stuff". It was their best match between one another. The main problem was that he wasn't consistent as far as doing more stuff moveset-wise. Warrior did apologize to Jake later and explained what was going on back during that time. I wish he would tell us what Helwwig told him. If true, it sucks that he had to ask him if it was okay to work a program with him. That was one of the best storylines to never finish playing out.
Growing up in the 80's as a wrestling fan was awesome. I wish just for one night the WWE could figure out how to replicate the feeling that came along with shows and star power like Hogan and Warrior. I can't really explain what it was like being an 8-12 year old Hulkamaniac between 86-90 but there was nothing more awesome than being at the Hershey Park arena or the Spectrum in Philly and hearing "Real American" start blasting through the arena. The Million Dollar Man was the absolute perfect heel back then and as fans we absolutely loved to hate him. We truly believed he was a smug, racist, sexist and bigoted rich guy who always got away with his BS. Diabase would have been an incredible heel champion for Hogan to chase and feud with in the lead ups to WrestleMania 4,5 or 6. Of course ill also never forget Virgil finally breaking free of Dibiase and hitting that smug smile of his with the million dollar belt. My lord i miss those days and that amazing wrestling
Vince told Jake to ask warrior if he will have a match with him, Vince did not say warrior wants you to ask him if you'll have a match with him, it was because Vince wanted the warrior to work with who he can work with , who he would like to work with , Jake asked Vince can I have a match with the champion so he can make money, warrior did not say no to Jake he agreed but Jake came at him with an attitude because he was told to ask him
Yeah context. Ppl take that n run w it. Warrior also didn't want to deal with Jake's addiction bullshit ruining the program either. So Jake tells the story like he was a consummate professional and warrior just went off on him.
Even what DiBiase said “he couldn’t work with him at The Tokyo Dome”, what he said in this video, is true. At WWF/AJPW/NJPW Wrestle Summit just a week after Wrestlemania VI Warrior beat Ted DiBiase in 6:12, when DiBiase worked with The Warrior, he saw a monster. Ted DiBiase was a guy who respected faces and heels, Jake Roberts,The Heenan Family(Andre,Haku,Rick Rude,Curt Henning,)Hulk Hogan, Macho Man,Roddy Piper, even The Undertaker!
of course it was. if he is popular and making money they should be grateful but they are not because they rather go broke then allow a guy who had it run with it
Ted was a fantastic character and one of the most underrated technical wrestlers amongst fans. I never got the appeal of warrior he did the same boring moves over and over every match. The only good thing about him was his run to the ring and his mic skills. And Ted had skills on the mic. Calling someone out for being a shitty wrestler and person isn’t jealousy.
This coming from a guy that embezzled a million dollars from a charitable organization he probably didn't respect him because he didn't get on his knees and work over Patterson like DiBiase did to keep his push
I got a lot of respect for you Ted, been watching you as a kid. The man is dead, let him rest. Yall released the DVD when he was alive and already got all of this off your chest. To continue berating a man that’s dead, that’s just not the way, you’re better than that.
I don't care what these guys say. Ultimate Warrior was badass to watch hands down. The only people that complain are those who just didn't capture the spotlight as he did
I've heard honky tonk man and had nothing but nothing but nice things to say. People hated warrior because he shot up so hight through the roof in popularity and they resented that , even though he was still working his way up.
BRUH...LOOK HOW VINCE MISTREATED KAMALA...I TOTALLY GET IT AND UNDERSTAND WHY WARRIOR PLAYED VINCE THE WAY THAT HE DID. VINCE COULD BE RUTHLESS BRUH..🤔🤔
Warrior's best match was the obvious WM6 title match against the Hulkster. He looked bloody tired half way through & could've lost the match had he not dodged the leg drop.
As a child i loved absolutely loved ultimate warrior. As a man mr ted is my true idol . Because if you garner respect youll hear it . Look at undertaker he is universally loved and shawn if meh . Catch my drift?!
I hated the Million Dollar Man gimmick. For one thing a Billion was the new Million by 1985. He offered Hogan a million dollars for the title and my little kid ass knew that the belt made the champion capable of making that much money.. and if you were already a millionaire going into wrestling why the fuck would you be in a wrestling promotion… you can start your own
Those are good points. This is why Bruce Wayne was upgraded to billionaire status for Tim Burton's BATMAN movie (1989). Still, I enjoyed the gimmick, those vignettes. The gimmick was really more about DiBiase liking to humiliate people, not so much the fact that he was made of money (my take). Yet to be fair, looking at Hogan being offered money for the belt in another way, people with lots of money will still do stupid things for extra cash. I'm sure that Jerry Rice has millions, yet he humiliated himself in a commercial for Popeyes. Greed makes people do odd things.
Character of a man matters in real life as opposed to WWF / WWF genre. The Warrior lived an exemplar life without criminal misconduct attached to his name unlike Ted Dibiase and family. “ALWAYS BELIEVE”.
@markv1274 pretty much every interview from ANYBODY that knew him not just Brett. Shit, they have documentaries, the guy was bat shit crazy and didn't care about anyone but himself
@@allenshadrick22 The older I become, the more reasons that I have _not_ to see most wrestlers in an admirable light. The list of wrestlers who _did_ like The Warrior is more than just a few. Bad News Brown, for one, was close with The Warrior--and Brown was a non-smoker, non-drinker, non-drugger, a man with a clean reputation in the business, and nobody dared shoot on him in the ring. I've neither heard nor read from _anyone_ who had bad shit to say about Brown. Yet Brown gave Warrior a big green check. Brown himself admitted that he, like Warrior, was only in the business for the money. Documentaries are documentaries. They're seldom completely objective. People are more likely to pay for a documentary that has a bunch of people shitting all over someone else. Name someone who hated The Warrior, and chances are you'll find a lot of dirt on that person. Ted DiBiase is one of the biggest scumbags ever produced by the business. Take his comments about UW with a grain of salt.
Lol. Ted has said at least 50 times in his episodes about whether he cared about being champion or not "its always about the money for me. I wanted the paydays." Yet here he is saying he didn't respect warrior because "it was a means to an end for him. He didn't care about the business. All the boys knew the deal." This has always been about Warrior being an outsider and less skilled. Jealousy that he didn't have to pay the dues they did. He had the attitude. The character idea. The right combination of all things that put him over the top. As a kid we believed he could kick all their asses bc he looked and acted the part. He just wasn't one of the boys. Simple as that amd because he didn't cuck out for them and mark for them they shit on him behind his back. That's really how it is. And he was still...better than all of them.
Warrior had a few friends like Kerry Von Erich who obviously died way too young. There is the story he let Kamala ride in his limo. I do think a lot of the guys were jealous because he rose to the top so fast. Maybe he wasn’t the most friendly guy but I don’t think he deserved a dvd bashing him and basically all anyone does online since is quote parts of it. Huge smear campaign. He did pay some dues in world class and before that with Sting so I don’t buy that. He’s the only muscle bound guy from the 80’s that gets criticised for not wrestling a bret hart style, it’s pretty laughable. Bret and Shawn and those guys didn’t draw.
No, it was about Warrior apparently believing that he knew everything he needed to know as soon as he walked through the door. Everybody wants to make money but that doesn't mean you treat everyone else like they're beneath you.
@EF-fc4du that's also not true. There are wrestlers who said they had no problem with Jim. They said he was fine. Kerry Von Erich was a great friend to Jim. The main ones who seem not to like him are the boys club members. The traditionalists. I don't think he thought anyone was beneath him. He had ego for sure, what wrestler doesn't? What Champ doesn't? Warrior didn't care about their traditions. Bottom line. He was successful despite that
Warrior had some good matches, in particular his Wrestlemania 6 match with Hulk, Wrestlemania 7 match with Macho King, and any match with Rick Rude. But they were definitely few and far between.
Ted came in 1988 in the WWF/E, he was a great heel, but when The Warrior came, he sure didn’t give a shit about who he wrestled. at Wrestlemania IV, he and Hercules Hernandez just beat each other for 10 minutes as what The Honky Tonk Man said in a interview, and he also said it was boring, Hercules told Honky” I’m just trying to get out there!” Well yeah! Beating for 10 minutes until somebody wins.
Same. I think Warrior was meant to entertain little kids. Compete with Saturday morning cartoons. Once a viewer gets past 10 or 11 the Warriors 2 or 3 moves starts getting boring.
See this is what irritates me, they all talk so bad about Warrior like he only cared for himself and the money. All the other wrestlers were the same. But if they all didn’t respect Warrior, they knew Warrior didn’t respect them and all the wrestlers thought he was dangerous and would hurt them, BUT….. they all still chose to go out there and work with Warrior AND put him over! So what does that say about the wrestlers griping about him? They all wanted the good payday associated with working with Warrior, rather than group together, go to Vince and say “this guy is not right for our locker room, he’s dangerous and he doesn’t respect anyone or the business, we aren’t working with him.” Vince would’ve had to do something about Warrior. But they all took the money. What hypocrisy, they all need to shut up.
Very well put! The fact is that when The Warrior was in the building, everybody made more money. Another thing: Ted 'The Thief' DiBiase was given money from day one from VKM in order to play the 'Million Dollar Man' gimmick. Vince wanted Ted to live the gimmick, so Ted didn't share the bus with the other wrestlers. Only because Ted was in the right place at the right time. Vince could've given that gimmick to another wrestler. DiBiase had that gimmick handed to him. DiBiase is just a hypocrite, he never mentions how he was granted privilege out of thin air.
Wrestlers wish they had what warrior had, you cant teach his intensity and charisma. @@EF-fc4du By your logic, Ted Arcidi should've been the biggest star ever. There was more to it than just UW's physique. Additionally, Ted's Golden Era WWF run didn't last too much longer than that of UW.

Ted was pure Heat ...

Not true. Everybody went wild when Warrior was on a program
Warrior vs Goldburg would have been hillarious
Goldberg

1 of the best Heels in wrestling history
Damn right
THE best heel. Nobody quite like Ted.
I don't understand how issuing ultimatums to Vince is a bad thing. Not everyone wants to join the "kiss my rear-end club"
Not so much a ultimatum, but he pretty much held Vince too ransom, telling him to pay him a million dollars or he wouldn't work in the SummerSlam 91 main event two days before, Vince paid him the 1million bucks and fired him straight after the match
Vince had signed a contract to agree to Warriors demands from the summer so in reality it was Vince who went back on his word
@@TheSeamus82 Holding VKM to ransom? You speak as if Vince didn't have a pot to piss in and didn't have a window to throw it out of. VKM screwed over a lot of wrestlers over the years.
You can’t blame other wrestlers’ contempt for the Warrior considering Jim’s limitations and his absolute disdain for the wrestling business itself.
Facts

Warriors bad attitude and greed are the only things that ended his reign. But Warriors Star power right up there with the all time greats
He got a spot in WCW because Hogan brought him in. Wanted to work with him. Only reason. He lost the WWE loads of money by no-showing. He even no-showed charity events. Vince invested a lot of time and money into him and his time on the top was very brief and he got fired.

Yeah context. Ppl take that n run w it. Warrior also didn't want to deal with Jake's addiction bullshit ruining the program either. So Jake tells the story like he was a consummate professional and warrior just went off on him.
Remember that Jake was a complete drugged up and drunken mess at the time, probably why Warrior acted the way he did.
I love ultimate warrior
You can't make someone a star . Either you are or you aren't and Warrior was definitely a star.
The fans loved Warrior
I don't like the Ultimate Warrior ,in fact, I despise him .I would like to see The Ultimate Warrior removed from the WWE HALL OF FAME.
The ultimate Warrior was great! My favourite Wrestler.
Warrior had the look. Especially for the 80s The muscle head. Tht looked like an action figure. ( vince had a hard on for big muscle heads) 👋
I’d rather watch warrior than million dollar man, I think a lot of the other wrestlers we’re jealous of warriors look and how popular he was with fans
of course it was. if he is popular and making money they should be grateful but they are not because they rather go broke then allow a guy who had it run with it
Million dollar man was a fantastic heel
Ted was a fantastic character and one of the most underrated technical wrestlers amongst fans. I never got the appeal of warrior he did the same boring moves over and over every match. The only good thing about him was his run to the ring and his mic skills. And Ted had skills on the mic. Calling someone out for being a shitty wrestler and person isn’t jealousy.
@@IonicSarge same as million dollar man exactly the same moves
This coming from a guy that embezzled a million dollars from a charitable organization he probably didn't respect him because he didn't get on his knees and work over Patterson like DiBiase did to keep his push
I got a lot of respect for you Ted, been watching you as a kid.
The man is dead, let him rest. Yall released the DVD when he was alive and already got all of this off your chest.
To continue berating a man that’s dead, that’s just not the way, you’re better than that.
The problem is this isnt real wrestling, its entertainment, and the ultimate warrior was one of the best entertainers in the business.
Or they hated him because he gave no effort and didnt care about hurting people, like Ted says in this interview.
To me it is very interesting. Most wrestlers today have the mentality of The Warrior and very few have the mentatlity of what Ted is saying
BRUH...LOOK HOW VINCE MISTREATED KAMALA...I TOTALLY GET IT AND UNDERSTAND
WHY WARRIOR PLAYED VINCE THE WAY THAT HE DID. VINCE COULD BE RUTHLESS BRUH..🤔🤔
The Ultimate Warrior is forever legend!
Warrior's best match was the obvious WM6 title match against the Hulkster. He looked bloody tired half way through & could've lost the match had he not dodged the leg drop.
Yeah but warrior called him out at the hall of fame speech Ted had nothing to say it’s different when warrior was there to defend himself
Ted still playing heal
I'm sure it's easy to diss the Warrior now when you don't have him responding about the million dollar ministry Ted was running.
I was the only one of my friends who liked WWF that didn’t like warrior. The more I learn the more I realize I was right.
Ultimate warrior is a legend.
As a child i loved absolutely loved ultimate warrior. As a man mr ted is my true idol . Because if you garner respect youll hear it . Look at undertaker he is universally loved and shawn if meh . Catch my drift?!
Please STOP interrupting Ted with “yes” and “mhmm” and “right” every time he answers a question. Let him answer uninterrupted!
OK Dana.
Totally wrong.... he was scum outside of the ring too
@@allenshadrick22 Back that up, and do so *without* believing everything that Bret Hart says.
Have heard alot of fans for the warrior but none for million dollar man.
Anyone being asked about Ted in interviews? 😂😂😂😂 nope just Warrior!!!!
Lol. Ted has said at least 50 times in his episodes about whether he cared about being champion or not "its always about the money for me. I wanted the paydays."
Yet here he is saying he didn't respect warrior because "it was a means to an end for him. He didn't care about the business. All the boys knew the deal."
This has always been about Warrior being an outsider and less skilled.
💯. I was about to make the same point you made about the money
Absolute facts. Who DIDN'T do it for the money? Peek hypocrisy by all these guys.
He was successful despite that
According to Ric Flair for his first NWA world title run it was down to him or Ted DiBiase and Flair won the vote.
Fun fact, any video game version of the Ultimate Warrior can do more moves than the actual.
Not the early ones lol, see NES and Game Boy
Warrior had some good matches, in particular his Wrestlemania 6 match with Hulk, Wrestlemania 7 match with Macho King, and any match with Rick Rude. But they were definitely few and far between.
Hogan carried warrior
Say what you want - if ultimate warrior is available in any wwe2k game - im picking him!
The best wrestler and character and he supports Liverpool!
Poor bloke..........
@Turrican60 😁 smart man he is
THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR.... the best!!
I was like 10 or 11 when Warrior debuted. Always wanted Jake or anyone to kick his ass.
Sure he wasn't bret heart but he was interesting enough to keep people watching and selling out arenas anytime he was promoted. An a lot of wrestler where jealous, on drugs, have a shitty morals if any.. like jake at the time. I see no problem with warrior giving it back to them the way he was treated and talked about! Jealous because they're just wrestlers while warrior was a superstar. Jealous because they have to work their whole lives to achieve a spot on the mountain while warrior did it in flash! Right time for the right guy for the oush and other wrestlers where upset. Too bad they didn't realize they had no star power like other's.
The "didn't respect the business" Warrior envy is so tired. The key word is business. He made more money than anyone complaining about him. Period.
yup. and it drives them fucking crazy to this day. Like Warlord says in his shoot interview on UW, its just pure jealousy
Exactly. Warrior didn’t have the technical wrestling ability of someone like DiBiase, but Vince didn’t want that anyway.
@@JakePower-oq7foa wrestler with Warrior’s build wouldn’t look right trying to do technical things in the ring. His look was what he was, a monster that just ran to the ring and destroyed. You look at most of these wrestlers how they wrestled fit their character to a T. You look at the era Warrior came from, an era where most of the wrestlers were bodybuilders and their look and power in the ring was what sold. The Warlord, the Barbarian, the British Bulldog, Sid, none of those wrestlers displayed technical ability in the ring. That’s not what sold in the 80s and early 90s
No matter how much you wrestlers hate on the ultimate warrior we the fans will forever love him
Not this fan man sorry I always disliked him even before I had heard how difficult he was to work with
I hate the ultimate warrior
As much as Iam a fan of a dibiase, The Ultimate Warrior was light years ahead of him in captivating an audience. It doesn't matter if you did not like him.
You can market anyone that way. Warrior had a body and that's about it. He couldn't work long matches, you couldn't understand his interviews, he didn't use any wrestling holds.. When basically zero people he worked with enjoyed it, that should tell you something.
He really wasn't. If he was he would have done it for a lot longer. DiBiase was right. Warrior wasn't much more than a body.
@@makefootballviolentagain5258Im in the middle on this. Pro wrestling is about drawing money, thats it. It doesn't matter how many moves you do if you cant draw and Warrior could draw. With that being said alot of the problem these guys have with him was his attitude and he was not safe to work with.
@@makefootballviolentagain5258 No, you could not market anyone that way....& please realize that the vast majority of people who have heard of the Warrior don't care about pre-determined wrestling at all. Characters are what make wrestling. Anyone who actually cares about 'fake fight techniques' instead of just getting into MMA or something...i can't even wrap my head around it....
@@EF-fc4du By your logic, Ted Arcidi should've been the biggest star ever. There was more to it than just UW's physique. Additionally, Ted's Golden Era WWF run didn't last too much longer than that of UW.
