  • Shorter Tutorial on How to Use the LTN-92 Navigation System found on the older classic airliners. The LTN92 comes somewhere between the very old CIVA INS and newer FMC's / MCDU's found in modern aircraft today. The LTN-92 is a very rewarding system to use, once you get your head around it.
In this shorter "quick start guide" we'll look at alignment, entering waypoints, editing waypoints, using direct-to, checking distances/times, as well as system position updating in-flight. Longer version of the guide, covering EVERY feature, and a full flight, including RNAV approach here • LTN-92 Complete Tutori...

Cool tutorial! I will check out the long version as well. Hope you go in much more detail in the alignment process and how can you set your initial position by 3 different methods.
And yes, this LTN is not finished yet. So much to add... But it already can be used for online flights.

Hey Felis - yes I did go into all 3 methods! I can't believe you added that final method, so I felt I had to include it.

Wonderful video!!....I used the LTN 92 for 17 years flying DC-8's, and 747-100's and 200's from 1990 until 2007. It was a wonderful navigation unit. I really enjoyed using it. I am glad to see you adding it to your sim.
I still have my LTN 92 manuals and a really nice "Quick Reference Checklist" that is an excellent tool to help LTN 92 users. I would be happy to send you a copy.....That first waypoint, SSOXS is pronounced "socks" and is named after the Boston Red Socks baseball team.....That first waypoint, SSOXS is pronounced "socks" and is named after the Boston Red Socks baseball team.....

Hey Stephes999 - Thank you so much for your comment! I'll remember the Boston Red Socks waypoint! Please do get in touch - I'd love to be able to talk with you about your job/the aircraft some, in addition to the LTN92. Please see channel info tab or visit gamesbrains.com and contact page. I'd be really interested in doing a "How the sim compares to real life according to a real 742 aircrew"

Side note. CDU #3 can do rnav update, but only in dual DME mode. It takes signals from CDU #1 and #2. Problem is it only receives distance data, not azimuth. So to update third CDU, you need two different beacons tuned. Also, there is strict requirement for dual update. It needs the bearing to both beacons be different in range from 30 to 150 degrees. It cannot perform dual rnav update, when both beacons are almost in line, relative to your position.

For a more precise POS INIT, use the LAT/LON provides on the Parking Gates chart.
Using the airport IDENT (KBOS) initializes to the airport reference point which can be over a mile from the ARP REF at geographically larger airports.
    Otherwise very nice tutorial.
