in one of the dragon mags they built a character like this for 3.5...10 classes for 2 levels each...i looked stupid...not as good as timmy here.
For a roleplay angle, I'd opt for Kenku instead. It's an excellent choice for mimicking other classes.
Good thought! By far the least abserd comment in this thread.
Doesn't that limit your class options or do I need to recheck the numbers for point buy?
@@vxicepickxv With point buy (PHB 13) you can get 13, 13, 13, 12, 12, 12 before racial increases. If you use those on a couple of your 12s then you have just one 12 left over for Constitution, the only stat not necessary as a multiclassing prereq (PHB 163). You have 13+ in the rest.
14, 13, 13, 13, 13, 12.
Or changeling with a bunch of different personas and each one is a different class
Wow that is actually good
RP explanation for this Abserd monstrosity
Starting at level 12:
Your character was an evil spellcaster's experiment in fusion; an amalgam of minds and bodies blended together as one. Mostly human but not entirely. Mostly adventurers but some children and elderly thrown in as well. For the villain's intentions you were a success, but some adventurers (your party) freed you before you could be brainwashed and used for whatever nefarious plans they had for you. You are a mess of memories, thoughts, wants, and emotions. You cannot quiet your mind and are basically just functioning on muscle memory and fight or flight during combat; the rest of the time muttering to yourself and barely coherent to others.
Finally your party encounters a paladin order that calls out to you deep inside, it is the order one of your selves used to be a part of. There is a stirring inside you, an organizing of desires and a balance achieved, for a time. Renewed and empowered by a greater calling, you manage to work in unison with yourself.
As you begin to approach something closer to a healthy inner life, the less lawfully good parts of you finally take their seats at the committee table and sway your behavior towards more pragmatic and chaotic desires (in the literal sense of the term chaotic, not the alignment). More people are selfish and opportunistic in nature than virtuous and selfless and eventually the slow melding of the minds makes you see more value in trickery and scoundrel-like behavior, while not abandoning your higher calling.
As all of the minds acclimate to each other, the "chatter" begins to fade, separate entities with desires (edit) act more like facets of behavior and less like competing forces.(edit) Soon there is no we...just me. This is who you truly are; you are persons made unified. Legion. Distinctly separate, but whole. Chaotic and just. Virtuous and underhanded. Flawed...but beautiful.
Fucking
Brilliant
Why can't I save someone else's comment?
Beautiful

Fucking awesome idea man. I may use it one day, if I can get my roleplay skills good enough

Everyone ragging on this guy for "stealing" Abserd, can we please acknowledge that taking one level in every class is just not a hard idea to have independently.
Let's also mention Ben's track record for the ability to have ideas independently as well.
I mean... Detective Savage Rage (*clenches butt cheeks furiously*) is pretty much just wizard world Kung Fury.
Well it's not rage we are just laughing about how abserd the character idea is and it just reminds us of good times
Yeah I literally asked my dad about this the second I learned about multiclassing

And it was hilarious.
PS - Props to Puffin Forest!
i find it hard to believe that taking20 didnt know about puffin forests video before maaking this, and they didnt even give credit for giving the idea
Fallen Deus It isn’t an original concept people have been making Abserd type characters for a long time. Ben’s video just happened to be super popular. No real idea theft here. Multiple people can cover the same topic.
not saying that its an original concept, just saying its hard to believe that he didnt see the video as the inspiration to make this video.
@@fallendeus That's a pretty big assumption lol. Kinda the same way people attribute Pally/Barbs to Joe Manganiello.
its not that big of an assumption though, as a d&d channel im sure they have seen plenty of other d&d channels content with puffin forest having 5x the amount of subs and the abserd video itself having roughly a few million views its actually pretty likely that they have seen the video before making this one.
What an abserd Idea you had there.
What have you been puffin, Forrest? 🤣
Well If it's stupid but it works... It's still stupid but it still works. ;D
Role-playing justification for this character: the curious, itinerant Everyman. He spends his downtime exploring the various subcultures, sitting in with the bards for a jam session, picking up some tricks from the party rogue, chilling out at the local monastery, and eventually finding his faith, before being brought in to do some less savory work for some less visible segment of his church.
It's a bit specific, but we all know someone that's into all the things, if we aren't that someone, ourselves.
"you can't argue with math" would you like to come and inform my High School Math students this?

Me, an intellectual: But you can't use a half plate or breastplate as a druid, they're not allowed to wear metal armour.
@@logankrohn1472 I'm just going to say that there's a reason they're made from metal. Ironwood might work for that purpose, or maybe hardened bone, but there's a category of exotic materials for items like that.
Dragon scalemail
@@nathanfreeman681 That's possible, but it's my understanding that dragon scale mail is technically only equivalent to baseline halfplate as far as AC goes, with less capacity to expand that further upward, and its extra effects aren't supremely useful for anything other than slaying the specific type of dragon it's made from beyond that.
Your high intelligence is abserd
My favorite character is a venerable elf barbarian, and dump constitution. You end up losing hp at lvl up instead of gaining.
Did he eventually get negative hp?
@@caninelupus8369 You can never get negative hp. You will always get at least 1 hp every level.
Maybe not in the way you meant, but I once played a magus/gunslinger in pathfinder. I found an obscure rule that you can use a medium cannon as a two-handed firearm if you are large sized. So I looked for the class to get the most first level spell slots in three levels to have enough levels left to get what I wanted from gunslinger at the level we were starting. That turned out to be Eldritch Scion Magus, as an aasimar for a boost to charisma giving me more bonus slots.
So normally he was an aasimar pushing around a cannon, but all of his spell slots were used on the 1st level spell Enlarge Person when combat started, after which point he would pick up his cannon from its base and use it as his gun. The GM was very liberal with what that rule meant and let me have a Cannon of the Infinite Sky, that automatically teleported a cannonball into it every time it fired.
despite having to carry a canon and it's balls, looks a cool concept
The first non abserd comment lol

Puffin Forest had a character like this. The logic was that every time he would learn a class he annoyed the teacher so much they refused to teach him more. I think his name was Abserd. Very funny.
Don't forget the 2 most important features Abserd had- a. Abserd was given the most annoying voice ben could muster b. He was a GoO warlock, so nobody could avoid the annoyance
Abserd was truly next tier joke character
Pretty ABSERD character if you ask me...
All the abserd jokes aside. This was entertaining to see the reasoning for how you determined what classes to take on what order with what abilities.
Yeah, probably start with rogue or barbarian for either more HP or more skills
This build seems really bonus-action intensive.
Even without Two-Weapon Fighting you just have far too many competing bonus actions to choose from.
I find this Abserd commenting phenomenon really interesting because multiclassing every class is not that original of an idea and this is a very different approach. Literally the first thing I thought about when reading the multiclass rules was "Ooooh I bet I could do all of these." I found the video entertaining in its own way and quite distinct from Puffin Forest's Abserd. Good job Taking20.

This build allows you to be an on-demand triage machine as you will be dishing out 5th level cure wounds with Preserve life and a Beefy amount of 1st-3rd level spell slots to assist in case people need more than that. You also get the addition of Invocations which can be great little helps in all the time you're not dishing out full-party blesses and 5d8+CHA healing. This build also makes you an amazing lookout if the party needs to take a long rest as just two hours have you filled up on 14+ sorcery points and Pact magic slots ready to blast the first sign of danger with an 8d6+CHA Guiding bolt. Oh, yeah, this build also has some nonsense damage potential with booming blade and eldritch smite + Quickened guiding bolt being able to dish out damage that would make Vengeance Paladins think you may be going a bit overboard.
I have never gotten to play this build personally but a friend of mine heard me talk about it and then asked me for the specifics as he was tired of everyone always dying in his campaign so he threw this on the DM.
The Murder Build:
Heblade Warlock/Divine Soul Sorc/ Fighter. Insane melee fighter using same sorcery point trick from before. Casting 5th-level Shadowblade and using it against a creature you hexblade cursed is both insanely mean and likely to murder it. Main nova round for this build is Action: Booming/Green-Flame Blade, Bonus action: Quickened Booming/Green-flame Blade, Action Surge: Attack action with extra attack + 5th level Eldritch Smite. On one creature at 14th level this is a whopping 26d8 + CHAx3 + PROFx3 making 139 (Assuming +5 Cha bonus) average damage with a 10% chance to crit, and if there happens to be *two* dullards who dare to stand in the way of your psychic-thuderous/flamey murder stick then you can twinned spell two of those for an additional 12d8 + CHAx2 (64 Average) damage and if 203 damage hasn't obliterated any creature in your path then that's okay as you can still Action and Bonus action Booming/Green-Flame blade each round for 12d8 + CHAx2 + PROFx2 (80 Average) until everything in your way is a smoking heap and you are at the end of it. Oh? The enemy gets a turn? No worries as with Shield + Mage Armor + Dex 16+ you can sit at a comfy 18 AC (19 if you use UA and take Mariner) and have a +5 as a reaction to bring it up to 23 when needed and if you've got a defensibly faithful cleric or a particularly fast wizard you can sit at a 20-21(Shield of Faith/Haste) and have that +5 for 25-26 AC (Tarrasque's AC btw) or be a greedy double dipper and take both (22-23 + 27-28 when using Shield) Also if you do have a fast wizard feel free to bump that DPR up an additional (27) 4d8 + CHA + PROF.
And there it is, feel free not-dying with either of these builds as they are both nonsensically survivable and a tool to anger DMs when they deserve it.

Ah yes who could forget the time spent traveling with Bardbarians
Yes absurd did it first but did Timmy do it better/smarter. Love the thought put into this.
I made a monk wild sorcerer combined lvl 5 named scruffy an old timer halfling, hill billy cook. He was so fun to roll play, yet didn't offer terribly much in the useful department.
Did Timmy become the mayor of town? No, well that’s just abssseerrd
RUclips knew and it’s showing me the abserd episode
The way that I would have spent the last 8 levels would be in, believe it or not, Monk. This is because of a few different benefits.
1) Extra Attack will still happen for them.
2) They are guaranteed to be weak, meaning that being able to use Evasion, Deflect Missiles, Patient Defense, and Step of the Wind would increase the chances of surviving a "surprisingly" tough battle unscathed, so long as the ASI was used to improved their Dexterity.
3) If the character has a shortsword in hand, it is a Monk weapon, it has finesse, and it is a melee weapon, making Martial Arts, Rage, and Sneak Attack possible during the same turn. Also, I would take dueling as a first Fighting Style instead, to boost the single weapon's damage.
4) Using the Way of Shadow Monastic Tradition would make them capable of teleporting around dark battlefields, increasing their chances of being able to use sneak attack by getting next to an ally during battle.
Honestly, it's not the multiclass that would suck, but the race. The worst that I could think of would be the official 5e kobold, with levels in Barbarian, Paladin, and Fighter. The multiclass could be good for an orc or a dwarf, but the kobold, who has sunlight sensitivity without the superior darkvision and a strength reduction that would require at least one 8 to be playable, it is the worst idea the character could make.
I ended up making a gunsmith artificer that had endless utility. Forge domain cleric for +1 thundergun, Archery fighting style for +2 to hit. Everything else as based on getting as much bang for my buck as possible.
It was a 10th-level campaign, so he was an Artificer, Bard, Cleric, Fighter, Mystic, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard.
A silly combo.
Druid of the moon and bear totem Barbarian Minotaur
Angry angry cow that smacks people with magical sticks, and can scream their ally awake,
Before assuming the ultimate mega Bear Bear form and rampage along as a raging Polar Bear
Alternatively you for the last two levels you could take totem of the bear for the resistance over the rouge's assassinate abitiy
I don't know about God Awful but it's certainly unique and was kinda odd to play as all you ever did was command animals each round.

haha so every Skyrim character ever, right?
Level 1000 Fighter/Rogue/Wizard/Assassin/Werewolf/Vampire/Unicorn/Flutist/Blacksmith/Puppet Master. Oh, and Dragonborn.
Loved the vid! Keep it up!
Abserd has changed his name with his poweful magic
I'd have done it as you did but going vengance, basically to guarantee advantage against the boss and make the sneak attack every round. Also, I'd make Timmy take the dual weilder feat to get a +1AC and take 2 rapiers
I'd love to see this character again with the new Tasha's features
Just a reminder before you get upset that Taking20 didn't steal Puffin's "abserd" character. The "take every class" concept isn't unique to Puffin, simply his video just got very popular. It's not a very complicated idea that he was the first to do it. That aside, I'm glad to see a feasible build with this being explained. Truly hilarious.
In my game there was a guy who decided to play an evocation wizard, it's all he ever played in every campaign he was in. But another player was already a gold dragon sorc.. So naturally when it came down to combat the wizard was overshadowed again and again and again by metamagic. We ended up nuking the campaign because he caused more problems then he was worth. But the point is, evocation wizard sucks when compared to a dragon sorc. They clash in a party and fulfill the same role.
They don't have to clash. People can play characters that work together, even if they fulfill the same role.
@@emmettfitz-hume9408 In our RoT campaign, my Warforged Arcane Archer and the Gnome Ranger were both ranged DPS but handled it in very different ways. I hit hard with huge nukes and actions with tanking potential, while he had more support and AoE and kept far out of the fray. Couldn't have been more different in role play as well.
Never played evocation wizard specifically. But overall, most wizards are just way stronger than sorc
Had a sorcerer and evocation wizard in the same party, too. They managed to make it work. The wizard focused on the advantages his class had, such as higher spell variety, utility spells sorc lacks such as tiny hut, and the ability to exclude the party from AoEs. That and the fact that layering AoE spells like fireball on top of one another, even if one deals significantly less damage, is actually a very powerful strategy. It's hard for a single caster to take down an appropriately leveled encounter in a single spell using any spell not named meteor swarm, but stacking spells like fireball on top of each other can prove quite effective.
But yeah, if the evocation wizard is trying to compare raw damage numbers, they're going to fall drastically short. Any sorcerer with quickened and empowered spell is just too much of a damage gap for the wizard to overcome.
As I've played both, I politely disagree. I'm playing basically a Sword Mage type of thing, and spellshaping has made sure fireball ignores myself and the paladin, while the ranger/barbarian snipes from the back. Dragon Sorceror does more damage overall, sure, but I have to be much more careful about where to drop my spell
Edit: Took a couple levels of fighter to have half-plate and action surge for more spellcasting
you can smite as a hex blade so it's not necessary to pick up extra levels of paladin for it. I would go for a couple more levels in sorcerer to get metamagic empower to increase smite damage and distance spell for that long range healing touch.
that doesn't sound dumb at all. that sounds like a really creative build and pretty badass honestly
