    Firas is so right about this. The day that Khabib retired (2 yrs ago) Islam was immediately the best active lightweight in the world. But it took him that long because there were bigger names in the lw division.

      Yes, bigger names or higher ranks didn’t necessarily mean they were the best. Islam can take on any of the so called top 5 guys Charles fought for the belt. He would dominate all of them just like the way he did Oliviera.

    Khabib's father was a badass in his own-right, extremely skilled and was even the Ukrainian national judo champion. Took all his skills and developed it specifically for cage fighting and passed it on to his son from a very young age. You arent gonna beat that.

    He's a great one, one of the best but there are some others great coaches, btw I am not able to rank them as I am not a coach specialist as Firas.Just I think there is a bias because Firas is emotional on this topic. Btw let Khabib's father RIP, I view only one video of him teaching thanks to an Australian guy who asked the service of a translator, and it is a great video available on RUclips.

    I absolutely respect Khabib's father and he's definitely up there. But it's hard to claim he's the greatest when you have folks like John Danaher out there. Arguably the driving force behind GSP becoming the goat at WW and Gordon Ryan becoming the goat of nogi (and that's without counting almost a dozen of his students reaching the peek of the sport with 1/10 of the experience of their competitors)

      @@docbuckets5923 John Danaher is the goat BJJ trainer. With all due respect, Trevor Whitman has produced only Rose Namajunas. Usman came to him as a champ. Gaethje wasn’t truly a champ.
      Javier Mendez inherited a stable of fighters. DC, Cain, Khabib, Rockhold, and Islam all had the main skill level already ingrained in them before coming to his gym.
      Abdulmanap took children from scratch and built them into some of the best fighters of their generation. 22 combat sambo champions, Khabib (29-0), Islam (23-1), Usman Nurmagomedov (15-0), Umar Nurmagomedov (15-0)… etc.

    That Harai Goshi set up must be highlighted. In clinch Islam goes knee to the body just to bait Oliveira. Charles responds with his own knee to the body and just as he brings his foot down - Islam does the throw. Just shows how high Islams fight IQ is.

    Khabib has been training since a little kid. Islam came a little later and has been doing it for 22 years. The experience these guys have is next level.
    Islam was the sharpest tool in that team. Abdulmanap knew it.

      If Islam was using a more traditional double/single leg approach, yes. He wasn't shooting to make himself open to knees honestly. He relied on clinch work to take him down. Judo throws and sweeps.

    I’d love to know why Coach Firas believes Khabib is greater than Islam.
    I too believe Khabib’s the greatest. But I have my own reasons. What I would LOVE, is to hear the Coach’s reasonings.
    Javier Mendez stated that Islam is a more complete fighter than Khabib, something that Khabib himself has asserted, and that Islam is the only fighter to have ever given Khabib trouble during training with no other fighter coming close.
    So, I’d love to get Coach Firas’ views on why Khabib is the greatest lightweight, followed by Islam, and not the other way around.
