  • What better place to sample the new Suzuki Hayabusa than a runway? Well, a road test would be nice, so Fagan did both at the UK media launch...

    would review this one, being a Suzuki fan boy, same as me. Loved the runway launches, loving the fact that Suzuki is still making this bike, doubtless drag racers the world over and kit car/racing car manufacturers are so grateful. The fact Suzuki has beefed up engine internals means obscene amounts of horsepower will soon be available, turbos etc. Yet another excellent review, I wait every week for my 44 Teeth fix like a needy junky, ABTW F*****g brilliant wheelies!!

      @@AndrasMihalyi I've owned one for many years and I'm completely aware of the layout. Its no tourer. As for not being as extreme? @@randykawasaki So you're only interested in how your biike goes for the first 10 seconds? These bikes aren't just about a 1/4 mile - they are for pure straight line speed. • @randykawasaki
      @randykawasaki 3 года назад +1

      @@siraff4461 I didn't say that. By concentrating on mid range and not the top end Suzuki have themselves acknowledged the importance of real world riding: no one does 186 mph on the road unless they're desperate for prison action. I've ridden plenty of quick bikes over the years inc. a gen 2 Busa and on the road you really have to watch yourself because fast is so easy.

    • @siraff4461
      @siraff4461 3 года назад

      @@randykawasaki You're contradicting yourself. If people don't use the top end and don't miss it then having more low down means more chance of getting into trouble earlier. If they do use it (and a lot of us do - even in this vid you can see him giving it full beans from 2nd on) then having less top end is taking away from the bikes ability.
      If you want to go fast on a sporty bike you aren't going to open the taps in a high gear and not bother changing. If you want to do that buy a Harley.
      All this excuse of "concentrating on midrange" is BS aswell. Its got smaller throttle bodies and slower cams. Thats great for emissions and has the side effect of moving the torque further down the curve. That gives similar torque at lower rpm but the trade off is it falling flat on its face higher up.
      Maybe they should have done a lovely diesel version for the full effect?

    Thank the lord you have the integrity to say the top end is flat as a witches'. Every other review has skirted around it and made excuses like "when do you use that much anyway?" but you came out honest as the day is long.
    Absolutely top marks for that one. Much appreciated.
    I agree with the general sentiment too. I never said it was necessarily a worse bike - just that I don't agree with them lopping its nuts off, adding an electronics pack then sticking over £4k on the price.
    As you said - when the gen 1 came out it was the straight line king by a mile.
    They had the chance to do that again now with boost but decided they didn't need to to keep selling bikes.
    They could have used the GSXR's VVT system and at least kept the top end - probably gained a few ponies - but decided they didn't need to.
    This really is an EU5 conversion and new frock on the old bike just so they can keep milking it even longer.
    The styling is better, I presume the extra bar height is better and if you need electronics on a bike like this its better.
    Watching it struggle up the top end like that makes me think the gen 2 is probably faster. This has more front weight and better tyres than the gen 2 did so its going to launch harder but you can see it not wanting to go up top - probably why they chose the shortest runway they could get.
    Stick this on Bruntingthorpe against a gen 2 with some modern rubber and I'd wager a pint the gen 2 will hit a higher speed. Infact I would say a gen 1 would give it a very close run for the money too.

    I don't understand the reason for the new Busa. The original was the baddest on the block, at least until the ZX-14 (ZZR-1400) came along. The gen 2 never caught up with the gen 2 ZX. With the gen 3 I was hoping it would retake the crown but they never even tried. The stronger internals probably mean that it will take more boost if you want to go in that direction but otherwise what's the point?

    I bet a reflash of the ecu will bring it to life at the top end. It’s amazing how many now have the throttle practically shut in the last 2-3k rpm

    • @siraff4461
      @siraff4461 3 года назад

      Its got slower cams and smaller throttle bodies than the old one. I bet you will need more than a flash to get that back. Especially with three cats.

    How comes manufactures use Brembo etc instead of doing them themselves? Sorry if silly question just always wondered

    • @siraff4461
      @siraff4461 3 года назад +1

      Cost vs quality. Brembo can make one set of brakes very well then sell them to makers and have them on a lot of bikes. If makers wanted to do the same that design cost would only be shared over their own bikes so it would work out as more per bike. Same goes for a lot of parts shared bits like Bosch electronics, Ohlins suspension and so on.
