You mentioned Scott's head voice near the end of the video. You haven't even begun to hear his head voice. Try "Hey Momma/Hit the Road Jack" or "Problem" for Scott soloing in the stratosphere, of the 90s Dance Medley", where he is hitting the same insanely high notes as Mitch in "Better Off Alone" (Mitch solos for the first go round, them Scott joins in for the rest). He also breaks out the head voice briefly in "Problem" and "Love Me When I Don't" (a PTX original).

I love your reactions! Not only do you really enjoy PTX, but I learn something new every time I watch with you - I would love to see your take on this: Pentatonix - AHA Singapore The Star Vista - it's not for the faint of heart! LOL I think Avi blows the mic and Mitch just blows my mind in this video - I believe someone said Mitch had a couple of Red Bulls before this performance! You will not see Kevin, but you will hear him ... he's just past Scott, but the person in the audience that recorded this was focused on Mitch - You will see why! I have subscribed and will be following so I not only can enjoy your reactions but become a bit more educated about my favorite group along the way! Your knowledge is appreciated! 🙂

I play this whenever I need cheering up. It's so good and their rapping is insane! Another reactor pointed out that rappers across the world should be grateful that Mitch and Scott went the musical route they did rather than becoming rappers because they would blow a lot of rappers out of the water and I think that's so true!

Love your reaction 👍 I would love to see you react to their originals live ! You'll see what they're individualy capable of and especially Avi ! On Popspring Special 2016, this is a live performance in Japan, recorded by MTV, the sound is amazing ! 3 originals and one medley, you'll be blowned away, promise ! I fell in love that day with Avi when I heard him, he wrote Cracked, the first song, with Scott. It's just fabulous, this all performance is fabulous. They all shine and Water, the last song is a masterpiece of vocals, harmonies, arrangements, really ! I would love to see you put your professional thoughts and felings on that performance 😍 Hope to see you do it. Thanks 😘

The Trio (Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch) *did* grow up in Texas! Whenever Pentatonix or Superfruit do rap (Problem, Feeling Myself), they tuck in little surprises like this, mostly to take the edge off the swearing For instance, they can make a lot of hay out of the fact that Mitch rhymes with B!#@#. Subscribing for more Pentatonix, and if you haven't checked out Scott and Mitch's side project Superfruit (2012-2017), you should. It started mostly as a slice of life + comedy vlog, but once they noticed that the musical episodes got the best responses, they hit that hard, culminating in the album Future Friends (2017).

harmonics! i didn't have the word for what i knew i was hearing/feeling. thank you for that. i'd be interesting in your analysis of their mash up of two songs; its called la la latch. two songs become one new one. i'm obsessed with their backing vocals.

I'm here in Europe and so never saw the Sing Off and never heard of these guys until I saw this pop up on my youtube suggestions when it came out. I have been a fan ever since. This one hooked me for life.

You should check out Avi's solo music......WOW is all I can say! He has a varied body of work from a bluegrass cover of OutKasts Hey Ya, to the powerful Change on the Rise, to the stunning accoustic versions of All is Well and On My Way for the 7 Layers Sessions, to the amazing 4 song set live from Sunset Sound led by When I'm a Fool, and everything else he has done. Just Wow! Subscribing for Avi reactions.

Avi is also very skilled in polyphonic overtone singing. I think much of the harmonic depth comes from that.

  • @megandelynn6114

Not sure if you'll see this but because of your depth of knowledge with music i have a few suggestions that should scratch that musician part of your brain! So to hear Avi do that with his voice live check out Aha! Singapore live (you'll also get a crazy Mitch slap) He is a Basso Profundo & he can also do Overtone singing (they had to start bringing their own speakers because he would shred their system as you'll see), Wizard of Aahs w/ Todrick Hall, the Prayer & Mad World! I also suggest the short doc from the Evergreen album to see them creating the album in studio! Enjoy friend!

I have to say this is another reason why I think PTX is above any other ocapella group,. There is not a genre that they will not tackle. I don't think i've heard another acapella group really try doing rap. This group will literally try any genre that is put before them and they will kill it.

If you haven't already started to explore the dragon's lair (not rabbit hole) of Avi's solo music, you need to, especially as a music teacher. I recommend you react to his original song "All Is Well", this version filmed in Utrecht, Netherlands during his 2022 European tour. His naturally resonant voice paired with his guitar and the acoustics of the church make for a stunning piece. His solo catalog is very diverse in styles and genres, mostly what's been called Americana/Folk, although he's said that what he's writing right now is an exploration of rock and blues. ruclips.net/video/sNjbAAjF4Tg/видео.html

There's no reverb on Avi's voice in that breakdown section, he's just singing with an intentionally breathy tone. It's a really cool timbre switch-up!

For whatever reason I am being pulled back to the BS Sony pulled on PTX after winning the Sing off in 2011. I DONT CARE what groups before PTX did in the market - SONY KNEW THAT when they underwrote the winner of the 2011 Sing off being awarded a recording contract! I think it is fitting PTX went on to sell millions of records and make a name for themselves much to the dismay of Hollywood. I continue to buy their music and support the group in every way I can just to thumb my nose at the small minded pimples in the Sony offices ! Bye Hollywood. Turn off the lights after your last show. You dont get to give me my opinion! I think since this video was shot shortly after their win, it pulled me back in time. I loved your review too! I so miss Avi! The irony of sing off interview catching him commenting while in tears that he wanted to do this for the rest of his life to being the one that has to leave - resonates with me on how we make plans that end up being trumped by events or higher powers showing us that our view did not consider all of life's angles.
