Good idea. Might be more accurate if you just padded the far edge, so that the nearside edge engages metal-to-metal as normal - but probably close enough!

Thanks, Patrick! The fact that you were helped is worth the effort of making the video. I had to do the same thing for the miter gauge on my sander (see my Wen sander unboxing video). I don't know why they can't improve the tolerances on miter gauges. It's not rocket surgery.
That's right. The miter gauge I had problems with came on a €1300 bandsaw, so what difference would it have made for them to add a decent one ? Maybe €50 extra, seeing how much some good Taiwanese imports cost . I'd happily pay that bit more money to get something I can actually use. On the other hand, you saved me those 50 bucks. ;-)
