Nana & Mona of Nanalan talk about their viral fame

- Nanalan is a children’s TV show that first aired in Canada in 1999 and wrapped up in the early 2000s. The show was weird and whimsical and surreal. And even though it’s been off the air for a while, the internet is keeping it alive. Clips from Nanalan have been going viral on TikTok and they’ve been wracking up millions of views all over the world. The stars of the show, Nana and Mona, join Tom in studio to talk about their newfound fame.

I am a single dad of a 2 1/2-year-old girl, and I will tell you that this show has been helping me learn how to be a good caretaker. I try to think about how Nana would handle a situation, and minus the silliness I emulate her same loving tone and patience. Also the stuff like genuinely getting excited over the small things, and making sure I turn the pages slowly when I read to her. ❤️🦄🐛

This is exactly how grandmas and three-year -olds talk. It's amazing how well they capture that.
That’s what drew me to the show it didn’t have that cartoon style of talking. It seems like a real conversation between a grandparent and their grandchild.

Bless these creators/puppeteers for nanalan! THEY'RE AMAZING! They can play them in character perfectly 20 years after the show ended, and they're also so aware of their adult fans! I absolutely love them!

Nanalan is a show that aired from 2000-2006. Funny thing is that these are the same people that created Mr.Meaty on Nickelodeon. Talented folks.
They've been friends since junior high.

Tom is such a gentle interviewer to these two lovely characters. I've only ever heard his voice but never seen his face... golly he's a handsome fella!
I just want to say a big thank you to the Nanalan production team for creating a show that is so comforting and wholesome for both children and grownups! I first saw the Instagram clips and then started watching snippets of the episodes on RUclips… I find myself tearing up and super comforted by the way Nana shows her love to Mona, and I’m in my thirties! And how timely it is for this show to go viral especially when there’s so much going on in this world right now. Thank you Nanalan for healing our inner child 💕 also I love the way Nanna says “infoweb” hahah

I'm in my early 50's and just discovered Nana and Mona from clips people share on Instagram. I LOVE THIS SHOW!! I feel so happy and at peace when I watch and I tear up some time from the sheer joy that they make me feel. Thank you for creating such a wonderful comforting show.

Found it!!! I heard this segment on NPR while driving home and made me so happy. I'm 50 years old and never saw the show or heard of it but I felt like a kid.

Russer!! 😂 My husband and i watched this in early 2000s, before we even had kids, it was so hilarious! We even quote it to this day - whenever we make bacon, one of us will inevitably say "it's bacon and eggs!" (From one of Mr Wooka's puppet shows), as well as "we are soo loooost"!! Great show, great laughs!!❤❤❤😂😂😂

I loved this show as a kid! I forgot about it till it started showing up on TikTok. I’ve rewatched some of the episodes and it’s just so wholesome. So happy to be able to watch it again. ❤️

These guys are talented and brilliant. There are so many things that need to be paid attention to, especially on the show they did. It's a real treasure to have something like this in this world, and they are so funny.

I simply adore this and it emulates the relationship i have with my Daughter and Granddaughters when they were younger. For a year now i have been writing a book based on a character i made in my head a few years ago as i was deeply depressed and suffered from anxiety. I have developed the character throughout the years. That character is basically just a slightly older version of Mona. The difference is that my book is not AS children oriented as Nanalan is. Its more of a family friendly story that also deals with heavy subjects like death, loss and war. I made my character as a form of therapeutic counterweight to much of what i see in the world, things that i hate; egocentrism, cynicism, corruptness, selfishness, hypocricy, and much of what i consider as outright evil. I made her as this embodiment of innocense, wonder, curiosity and goodness. Someone to which the concept of being hurtful and bully others for their own gain is so foreign of a concept it simply does not exist in their mind. When i came across a timtok of these two characters, at first i didn't think that much of it, but after seeing more of them, and especially Mona, its almost as if someone made my character before me. and it felt like i was seeing my own character. This was so emotionally powerful to me that i almost broke down. Mona resembles my own made up character so much, and it feels like she represents the same things. I never would have guessed that a puppet character could have such profound emotional impact on me.
